but when they have obtained their request they very often forget to give lhanks. Our Lord found that to be true.Ten lepers came and sought His healing power. He sent them on their way and they realized that they had been healed, but only one or the ten turned back to give thanks. That is probably a fair average.Day by day we receive blessings from God, blessings material and spiritual, and probably not more tan one person in ten stops long enough to give thanks to the Giver.Think what those gifts are: the fact that we are here at all; the fact that there is a world for us to live in; the fact that we have the power and can develop the skill to turn that world to our advantage; the fact that God keeps in being both that world and us; that God provides a new home for us when we have worn out our welcome here. Those are some of the things for which we should give thanks day after day. Those are the things which nine out of ten forget. But from time to time and from place to place there are special things for whick we give thanks.I thank God with all sincerity that I was born in the Dominign of Canada.and that I am allowed to be a witness of the marvellous development of my own country. We have seen the actual wealth of our country far-more than doubled in a quarter of a century; and we have seen the potential wealth multiplied many times. We may well thank God for it.But I wonder if we are thanking Him in our acts as well as in word.It is not very hard to go to Church and sing “Now thank we all our Gud”, and put a dollar bill on the collze- tion plate. It is much harder to consider quietly what response I, as an individual blessed by God, should make to the hospital appeals and the welfare Federation appeal, which are the.simplest PRESBYTERIAN MELVILLE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH Melville Avenue Rev.Ches, €.Cochrane, B.A, B.D., Minister.” Sunday, October 4th 11.60 nom.Morning Worship 11.00 a,m, Church School.7.30 p.m.Evening Worship.Visitors and Friends Are cordially Welcome.Sherbrooke St.Lester A.Woodin.Orgettist and Choirmaster means of expressing thankfulness.I do not express my personal thankfulness by making a gift to myself but by meeting the need of groups or individuals in the community. So we do not express our national Thanksgiving by doing something within the nation.Rather we look outside to see the need of the world.God has given us coal and oil, iron and the precious metals; He has endowed us with crops beyond our imagining; and the only way we can thank God adequately is to share them. That refers especially to food. The hungry nations would like our coal and iron; but they are in des- perute need of our wheat. In fact, millions will die if they do not get a share of it: Actually what we need most in Canada at the present time is someone with vision enough and authority enough to bring together the world’s need for food, and our over-supply of food. That should be the aim of our Thanksgiving.“Are sin, disease, and death real?” is the subject of the Les- son-Sermon to be read in Christian Science churches on Sunday. This Lesson-Sermon teaches that sin, sickness‘and death are no part of God's perfect spiritual creation; him.The ball hit the cross bar and fell into the arms of Drake, who ran it across from the Verdun 15.The convert attempt was taken in a sea of mud and both holder and kicker slipped in the {ry.Linemen Block Point On the first play of the second half, Verdun tallied their major on an 80 yard run off tackle. The first convert attempt fell short, but they got another try when the referee ruled Westmount offside. But Bob Joh, Chris Carr and Dave Woodman, three linemen who put in outstanding performances, drove past their heavier opponents to block it and retain the one point margin. The game was strictly a defensive effort for Westmount, crippled as they were with no runners and ‘fewer passers.Twice men got into the clear on end runs, but were easily pulled down hy the fast Verdun team.Dick Christensen showed well in the backfield, hut the wet ground made it difficult to get moving at any time, Pushed Deep .Verdun passed a lot near the end in a desperation effort to go ahead, move it out from there Vi Fuller kicked them deep every time he touched the ball.Sharp only had.19 players out to the game, while Verdun used a two-platoon system. There were only two guards and two tackles, and the Verdun line outweighed them by at least 20 pounds a man, but Carr, Job, Woodman, Gill, Evans and Fox saved the game with their sharp tackling and sterling play.Fox stopped a sure touchdown once when he chased a Verdun half and brought him down just short of the goal.Little Offense Shown Bobby Hamilton also turned in a good game for the locals, who showed slightly less offense than Verdun. The latter chalked up all of four first downs, Westmount got three. In the end the kicking was the difference.Verdun worked out of a T formation and time after time they fumbled while Verdun backs were pinned in behind their own line every time, for the local ends charged hard and fast to make them turn quickly, and the field was just too wet for such antics. It was a game that
