general secretary of the.Retail Merchants\u2019 Association, at the directors\u2019 luncheon at the Canadian National Exhibition, this afternoon.It was manufacturers\u2019 day, and a number of prominent manufacturers were guests.On behalf of the retail merchants, Mr.Trow- ern asked the assistance of the manufacturers in securing the repeal of section 520 of the Criminal Code, which is directed against conspiracies in restraint of trade.\u201cIt is necessary that the inter- \u2018ests of the manufacturer, wholesaler, and retailer should be united,\u201d said Mr.Trowern.\u2018We are handicapped by eec- tion 520 of the Criminal Code, which cannot be found in any other country on the face of the earth; a piece of legislation that was never put there by mänu- facturers, wholesalers and retailers, but by men who had no knowledge of the great industrial affairs of this country.The result is the hands are tied, and it is a criminal offence for the manufacturers.wholesalers and Exhibition grounds, whieh did about $2,200 damage.The Simplex Gas Company, of Uekville, had an exhibit in about the centre of the building and, one of the machines leaking, the acetylene gas came in syndicate on West Eighty-second street by Detectives Barry and McDonough, and at the same time the property in the place was seized by Deputy Sherif John J.Hassett.Thousands of dollars\u2019 worth of valuable furnishing were found in the place, three hours being required to make an inventory.When Mrs.Brown was taken away by the detectives, Mrs.Verreault, her accomplice, soon after left the
