of Finance.Pushing past the guards they entered the office, and, confronting the Minister, demanded the pay due their busbands.The policemen tried to expel them bat the women forced the officers to discussed at a conference this afternoon between Secretaries Bayard and Whitney.Bayard at the request of Whitney defined the treaty responsibilities of the United States in this matter.Bayard then went to see the President and late this evening an informal meeting of the Cabinet was held at the White House, at which the matter was fully discussed.The conclusion reached was that while the Government is not called upon to'take cognizance of the interval broils at Panama, yet it has by treaty guaranteed free and nninterrapted transit across the isthmus.Acting upon this conclusion Secretary Whitney to-night telegraphed orders to the commandant of the Brooklyn Navy Yard to get all the available marines at the yard in readiness for immediate departure, and to provide Gatling guns re-opened The force from here attacked Preston on the afternoon of the 30th alt., and drove back a smalt ontpoet.On the morning of the 31st the fight in the town of Colon commenced.Cannons were used and the firing was heavy.While the fight was in progress a fire, the origin of which is unknown, broke oat in the town.Preston when he saw defeat was inevitable, eeoaped.Many of bis men were killed or guaranteed seven per cent interest on $700, 000 capital.The ground contains 90,000 square feet, being 30,000 larger than the site of tne Windsor Hotel.The receipts at the Montreal Custom House for the month ending March 31 were $420, 858, a decrease of $118,215 as compared with the same month of 1884.The deficiency is said to be owing to the fact of imports com ing forward two months earlier than last year, as in January and Febrnary there was an in crease in duties of about $300,000 as compar ed with the same months in 1884.The receipts at the Inland Revenue Office for March were $105,052,
