Our marriage is going downhill because he thinks he is half a man.1 don't want to hurt him, but I have thought it over for a couple of months and it is what 1 want A woman can get an abortion without anyone’s con-stmt.Why can't a woman get pregnant without anyone’s consent but herself’ 1 am going to get my baby one wav or another. Can I have artifi-cal insemination without my husband s consent?DEAR READER -Vitamin E is usually of no value whatsoever in improving a man's fertility. It's useful in rats in the event that they are deficient in vitamin E, but there is no evidence that it does anything for the sex life of people.Sometimes when the man has a low sperm count, giving thyroid is helpful. In other instances, very little can be done.In most fertility studies, before a man’s specimen is studied he is asked to avoid sexual activity for two and sometimes three days. The reason is that the doctor wants to see a specimen with the maximum amount of sperm cells. It follows that by restricting sexual relationships to every three days a man is more likely to produce specimens containing larger amounts of live, healthy sperm Another point in raising a man’s sperm level is his general health.Anything which detracts from a person’s over-all health detracts from his fertility.1 received a letter from another woman re- cently about the same problem and her husband was taking pills to stay awake Fatigue, medical problems, drugs, anything which detracts from the over all general health tends to decrease fertility It follows that good health habits are conducive to optimal fertility. Now about that artificial insemination without your husband's consent. In the first place, no reputable physician would do this unless both ot the prospective parents were in agreement.I don't believe that you will be able to maintain a satisfactory marriage if you attempt anything of this nature without the full consent and support of your husband. While you state a woman can get an abortion without anyone’s consent, my opinion would be that within a marriage this too should be a decision made by both individuals and not just one Marriage means sharing.Thai includes sharing ol decisions, responsibilities, joys and sorrows.A married woman who is pregnant and deliberately has an abortion without talking to her husband about it is not being fair to her marriage agreement II a couple is not willing to share problems and make decision together, it’s not much of a marriage.A more ideal solution for the two of you might be an adoption. This too should bo accomplished through proper agencies to ensure that you would get a healthy, normal child that would be a joy to your household and not a burden. But, any such decision would have to involve both of you. After all.it will require the efforts of both of you to provide a satisfactory home environment for any child.Send your questions to Dr Lamb, m care of this newspaper P O Box 1551.Radio City Station.New York.N V 10019
