building a town over in Ontario and if they ever get it finished it'll be some place. They call it Toronto and to prove their keenness at this project they start in every morning at six-thirty with their steam shovels and pneumatic drills—mostly right outside hotel bedroom windows.Or so it seems. But from the start they’ve made we have every hope that one day Canada will be proud of Toronto.Meanwhile we have to dash over there once in a while to see what’» new and different.Last week we saw the very latest thing in printing equipment and find it a bit exasperating to return to our own weary presses and ancient printing gear.Lots of room for improvement here.At least we don't have anyone digging the ground out from under us as they have in that big town.As the subway tunnels arc being built, their openings spew out piles of sand to obstruct traffic. No danger of Shawvil^e being undermined. Why even the thought of digging a little sewer throws the whole town out of gear. But poor old Toronto has really gone to the ants. They have sewers, underground pipes and cables, and now it’s the subway.Well, as we said, when they get it finished it promises to be a great fine ' yioans leave without polling his vote in the August election. We left "1 August 9.We had a very good trip up although the last few days from Winnipeg to Churchill on the Muskeg express were rather slow and tiresome. We arrived in Church ill around noon Friday and after a hurried lu non we immediately left by plane on the last 300 miles of our journey. What struck me as the most spectacular thing on this part of our trip were the immense tide liais we flew over also the huge flocks of Canada geese that make their home there. Also interesting were the 5.0 Jan Ri^bcs sing a Euro- I the worship to Almighty God rather than to get something for ourselves.Of course God does give us many blesings and Our Lord Himself taught us to ask for the things we need both for our bodies and our souls. But somehow we find it very diffi-I cult to connect the prayers we say in church on Sunday with our work during the week. Our Churches are built and decorated in a manner very different from our homes and our places of business. The architecture is different and the atmosphere is unworldly or perhaps we should say other worldly.Speakers’ Pool A new edition of the SPEAKERS' POOL AND CltV When an accident occurs it is important to have an officer of the law there as soon as possible. There is only one way to contact our local Traffic Officer and that is to telephone to him.His telephone number is 4-13.If he is not at home his wife will answer and if you tell her where he is needed she will see that he gets there as soon as possible. Most of the people who call his home just hang up the minute they discover he is not there. The officer calls his wife every twenty minutes or so all day to let her know where he can be located and to find out if there are any calls for him.The thing to do- then, when you need Mr.Young for any reason, is to telephone to his home and leave a message there as to where he is needed and he will get there with the least loss of time.Another difficulty we encounter in connecting our work and our worship is that so often our work is not something we can take pride in and do to the glory of God.Here the farmer has a decided advantage over the town and city dweller. If we, believe that “the earth is the Lord’s and the fulness thereof’’ then the farmer must work with God to produce the food on which mankind depends. He is a steward holdihg and working the land in trust for God.He is bound to conserve the good earth as the greatest material gift that God has gjven men.As long as he works the land with this in mind he will be working with God and his work and his worship will be integrated, the one will come naturally from the other. But what of the factory worker where work consists of repeating over and over One set of operations which perhaps puts a thread on a screw or bolts together two parts of an intricate piece of machinery. He may never have the satisfaction of feeling that he has made something. He may never even see the end product as it leaves the factory. How can such a worker see any real connection between- his work five days a week and his worship on Sunday?Indeed most of the labouring class in our cities do not see any need for worship and it is this class of people for which the church has least meaning. The white-collar workers and the management classes are still found in our churches in some degree or at least they support the churches financially. But the son’s programs are plays about church has for the most part failed the labouring Notebook and the odd news program we hardly know the radio exists. But now it’s time to turn the dial once more and spend the occasional evening with our old reliable friend, the family radio.Every week we get a little magazine from the CBC tellng of what’s new on their networks and this week it fortells many good things for our winter listening.Wayne and Shuster, it seems, are coming back to the air at 9.30 Thursday, October 8.The General Electric show will be back for the season starting Sunday night with the Leslie Bell singers.Rawhide, unfortunately, has been postponed another month, but he’ll surely put in an appearance by the end of October. Our Miss Brooks and Twenty Questions will start this week and Stage 54 will be back on Sunday night with the first radio motorists who refuse to accept the fact that now it does. One impartial observer at the accident there this week said, “The only way to make people stop at that intersection is to post a man there with a rifle and shoot everyone who doesn't stop".Another less dire suggestion would be to put a stop and go traffic light there.Perhaps a caution light would do or even just a very large stop sign.Of course there are still those who will never stop at that intersection but for those who merely need more persuasion, some sort of arresting signal is indicated.Next week the play will be
