[" GUIDE TO THE LOCATION OF STREETS COMPILED BY A.B.CHERRIER.1889=90 SYSTEM OF NUMBERING OF STREETS All streets in Jacques-Cartier and St.Roch wards, running from the Cape to the river St.Charles, that is from South to North, have odd numbers on the left or West side, even numbers on the right or Eust side; running from East to West, odd numbers on the left or South side, and even numbers on the right or North side.In the Upper Town, St.Jean and Montcalm wards, streets running from the Cape to the river St.Lawrence are numbered from North to South, odd numbers being on the lett or East side, even numbers on the right or West side.In the Lower Town, some streets commencing at the Cape are numbered from the Cape to the river St.Lawrence\u2014that is from West to East\u2014odd numbers on the left or North side, even numbers on the right or South side; transversal streets are numbered from South to North, odd numbers being on the left or West side, even numbers on the right or East side.Champlain and Petit Champlain streets, which run from a north-easterly to a south-westerly direction, are numbered accordingly, odd numbers being on the left or South side, even numbers on the right or North side.EXPLANATIONS This Guide gives the ward location, also number indices to Churches, Schools, Banks, Government and other Public Offices, Terraces and Chambers, City Hall, Police and Fire Stations, Charitable and Educational Institutions, Railway Offices, Clubs, Consulates, Newspaper Offices, Hotels, Quebec Exchange and Board of Trade, Telegraph Companies, Halls, Post Offices, Markets, Manufactures, &c.The chief object however this Guide hasin view is to show the location of each street, indicating also what other streets end on it, run from it or intersect it, with, whenever possible, the corner numbers where such streets end, begin or intersect.It will be noticed that the names of the streets are given in strictly Alphabetical order indicating the course in which they run, according, as near as possible, to the points of the compass.This Guide is also intended to indicate at a glance the proximate locality of any number on any street, for example : if you desire to know where No 221 French Protestant Ch., St.Jean street, is located, this Guide tells you that being an odd number, it will be found on the left or South side of St.Jean street and about
