according to a spokesman the operation is going ahead as expected.Todays’ official inauguration must bring great satisfaction to Mayor Cauchon who played a very important role in bringing the zinc plant to Valley field, At the sod turning in April of last year Mr.Cauchon said: ‘‘All of you, together with the city’s administration for whom I speak, all of us are conscious of Libraries fo Children C.M.Bedford of Saskatoon, President of The Canadian Home and School and Parent- Teacher Federation said at a meeting recently that four recent news items indicate that some progress is being made on problems which have been before the Federation for some time. The first is the withdrawal of the sales tax on building materials when used for libraries. For some years Home and School members have been stressing the important place of the children’s library in the educational system. The pressure of opinion which resulted in the budget change was due in part at least to the publicity the Federation has given to the poor state of children’s libraries in Canada and the need for the placées a la récolte des pommes. Second, he noted the fact that the difficulties faced by children moving from one province to another because of different subjects and text books was on the agenda of the provincial premiers conference at Halifax. This is one more step in the trail which commenced with a request by Home and School to the Canadian Education A sso- ciation for a study of the problem. Il suggéra, comme mot d'ordre de la 6e campagne: ‘‘L’objectif à tout prix.” is encouraging to note that the problem is being considered at the highest levels. The well publicized news of the signing of a pact to han bomb tests by most of the major powers is also of interest to Home and School and Parent-Teacher 12 the population has increased.studies also show that fire losses as compared with the amount of property and value of property subject to fire loss have actually been reduced steadily over the past 60 years, and these reductions are continuing during the present decade. In fact, it is a matter of record that had it not been for fire prevention and fire protection measures, the annual fire loss would probably be three times as great as it is.” “We must recognize that fire can be controlled, but it is up to the individual to do his part.It is not something we can leave to others to do for us because each of us could be the next victim unless we take steps to prevent fire and to provide proper safeguards tés, plus spécialement Jes Foyers Notre-Dame.Theme: Ju famille modeme Isidore.Got Well washes are en "4 Miss Lise Langlois who patient at the Barrie dans l'evolution de notre No Work Here Today .Nor Tomorrow ts à Merorial Hospital, Ornstonen, Choque.Au Plattau ot au que.Rene Elizabeth, Speedy recovery to Mrs, Pour de plus amples ren Charles Baldwin who recent >"ignements: M, ou Mme, J.P.iv urlerwent surgery airi as 3onneau, 373-9193.Reteuez Gow a patient at the Barrie YVES billet des maintenant.Memorial Hospital Ormstown, que.sunday guests at the hons + Mr.und Mes, O, Millat pador since it's gone.vers M.and Mrs, Gordon Grandm.Youmissed it Fefore, Pyle und taunily Ad Perth hats wh ot pone, Mptari. Sur la photo du bos MM Paul Charette et Conrad Charette font voir un des produits de leur laiterie a Mlle Mannister.(Photos Peter Rozon) PLUS COMPLET A VALLEYFIELD GRATIS! lanes are open and so use only the paved side for two- way traffic.Help prevent accidents by using all four lanes between the highway and Craig.Friends and neighbours wish a speedy retumn home to Mrs.H.J.Sheppard of 372 Montcalm Street, who has been several weeks in hospital under observation after a sudden illness. The Activities Committee of the S.P.H.O.A.have many new ideas which are under consideration for the coming season.Mrs.Robert Bédard, -chair- man, said there is one new member on the committee, Mrs.Madelaine Karsh, Montcalm Street.Mrs.Bédard hopes to see some of the other new residents join the group.Apparently the response to the petition circulated here on behalf of SPHOA and the Junior Chamber of Commerce was heartening.Jaycee president Phil Bonneau says the same is true for the rest of the Town and Centre and the study should get underway soon to show the feasability of amalgamating the two towns.Hopes have faded fast for early door-to-door delivery in Seigniory Park. The official word from Ottawa is that the Post Office Department is still bound by the austerity program and just can't afford to extend the service at this time. This is borne out to some degree by the recent announcement raising the postal rates to keep the department from showing a large deficit this year. However, Azelus Denis, the postmaster general, promised he would look into the matter again next spring and try to recomment at that time that we get our long-awaited service.ton may have been doing this kind of a job for the City of Montreal, for numerous years, but does this make him an authority in Heights affairs? As Mr.Modeland, and also Mr.Beauchamps said, how is il possible, -that building costs per cubic foot are evaluated higher for multistory buildings than for one-story bungalows, where a simple calculation or an inquiry with any building contractor will prove different? The citizens of the Heights wonder, if the appointment of Mr.Compton as Chief-Asse- ssor, and using the evaluation tables he advocated, was an unqualified success, to say the least.Woodlands ~ NEWS -
