the Star's Special Commissioner.) ’ DAWSON CITY, July 23.—By the end of May all the lakes und rivers from Lun- ‘derman to Dawson were clear of ice.The disappearance of this dangerous obstacie to navigation was the signal for the howst | manner, that it passes as the natural mode j of expression of the human race, and he i whom anywhere else a man would call a | “liar,” Tagish, & distance of forty five miles, one continuous procession of | boats streamed along the wide and often boisterous waters that hie ensconced among ; the rocky hills of this remote northern Tegion. The party that | had joined were ready to start on the 5th of June, and al about three o'clock on a fine afternoon, with a nice fair brerze blowing, we set our dug-sail and started on our long journey of over 580 miles to the metropolis of thn golden north. Our hoat was Bennett but.about 28 feet in length, with a beam if pearly 6 feet, and she carried a cargo of about three tous, with our party of five. She was stoutly built and an e éfllent craft for the purpose, though to thé un- itiated she would have appeared very rough, and, possibly, unserviceable.Th.re was not a planed board in her, and of paint she was as innocent as any young lady of two weeks of age; but she rode ! the heavy sens of the lukes hke a duek, and, with anything like a breeze to fill her big lug-sail, she showed her heels to the best and smartest of the Peterboro canoes, or any other product of the boat- yerds of civilisation. Our skipper was an old hand at both car and sail, and we had with us the “chef” of the beat hotel in Bennett, so that the rest of us, the ti.T.'s or gentleman travellers— had noth ing more to bother us than‘ an occaswnal turn at the oars.A spanking breeze soon took ns across Lake Bennett, and aa early as six o'clock that evening we landed at the foot of the lake and camped for the night.BECALMED FOR DAYS.The next morning was a sample of ihe Weather we wer to have throughout the whole trip.1t was clear, bright, and very Warm-—in the neighborhood or su degrees in the shade—bui with hardly a breath of wind, and that in the wrong #hrection. In every respect, but the inust important, that of sailing, the weather was perfect, and if our undertaking had been a picnic instead of a business enterprise, we should have been suited exactly. But as it xo J all on business nt we varied the monotony of drifting with our sil down, during the frequent - periods of frequent calm, by whisthng tor & breeze and when a breeze did come, 05 invariably it did in the wrong «direction, _Xhe monotony was further reheved by the arduous labor of endeavoring to adequate % express our feelings.Needless to say, e results were not fit for publication. For days we drifted with the current where there was one or Inbored at the gh hewn oars, where the water was -atill, and apparently, as heavy as so much molten lead, surounded on al] sides by e huge flect of home made boats that we had expected to so -easily outstrip. The rge square-ended, roughly built “scows” with their ridiculous little white cotton sails, which in our conceit we had soffed at so often in Bennett, kept alongside ot us and as the occupants lived on hoard thus avoiding the necessity of camping at night.actua y in the end outstripped us.Our big lug-sail—the only one in the fleet — of which we had expected so much, was pructically useless, anil, as our ‘‘chef” uo “hardly paid for itaelf - As-none of us were in a condition for propelling a dead weight of some four tons y means of rough, twelve-fool, so called cars, that were themselves about as much as a strong man could hit, 1t is not sur Freins that it took us two days to reach Aish House, a distance of forty miles, All the conditions that were said to exiat, were in our case realized. We had crossed the much dreaded Windy Arm.so called cause of the constant gales that are wand to blow from it, in a dead calm; what little wind we had, had been from the north instead of from the south—said to be the prevailing wind—even the much libelled muoequito had failed to put in an appear ence, except in comparatively small numbers and of a character peculiarly modest and unobtrusive for members of such an aggressive race; and, taking one consideration with another, we were foreed to the conclusion that either the people who had written about the country were grossly ig- Korant regarding its condition, or thev were affected with a complaint that we found to be peculiarly prevalent among all the inhabitants of the northern portion of the Pacific coast, a complaint of which the most characteristic symptom 1s an unparalleled love of misrepresentation. In some parts of the old world people so affected ere called “liars,” sometimes coupled with an adjective of more or less gaudy emphasis, but in this very new part of the new world, the practice is so common, and in done in such a cheerful, lamblike — ee ee - " OURES - DIARRR(EA, DYSENTERY SUMMER COMPLAINT.Price 350.at ait NEPERR BUBETITUTES, ev ane House doubtless, serve their purpose well. The great attraction when we were there was three Indian pris under pecubarly cold-blooded conditions for the sake of their outfit. The capture and punishment of the Indians is a striking ex- wmpie of the inexorable efliciency of police rule. The Indians were living with their friends hundreds of miles away in the inte vior, but the long arm of police law reached out to them. Two constables travelled i six hundred miles to capture them, and they ; brought all three prisoners saiely to Tag (ish House, where they are now in confinement, chained to an anvil, from which probably they will not be released till time comes for them to step upon the scaffold.A PICTURESQUE PROCESSION.We crossed Marsh Lake, a narrow sheet uf clear water, some Lyventy miles long.in fine calm weather with just enough wind to kee us going slowly, From end to end, the lake was dotted over with an unbroken string of boats, all with SAIS set, and the scene was, indeed, charmingly picturesque and strangely interesting wuen one cousudlered the fact that this "beautiful sheet of water, now teaming with ja thousand boats carrying a crowd of thou: "sands of men and women from every quarter of the globe, lay 1n the midst of a wilderness of mountains, absolutely unin- babited or even explored, fifteen hundred miles away from any place that has a name and a regular occupation, and that only two or three years ago, when Ogilvie cross ed it, he was looked upon as an explorer, and a kind of original discoverer. Now the lake presented very much the appearance- with a:little water and mountain added - of Puttey on a bank holiday, and, indeed, the humour of the crowd, laughing, singing, and cracking jokes reminded one very strongly of “7 Arry and Appy " Ampstead.” Genuine ‘’Arries were there, too—men who had never before been out of a shop or u factory, and it was wonderful to see Bow well some of they got on under what were to them such novel conditions.Side by side, the townsman and the hardy professional prospector had become, by this time, hardly distinguishable in appearance; ut 1 Was always safe to bet that the boats from which came the strains of the cornet, the banjo, mandolin, or flute, or the merry chorus of a popular song, r whence you were chaffed most gaily + you drow up alongside, was ocupied by fownsmen who probably had mever slept out of a spring bed in their lives before.Possibly the high spirits and grit of the lownsman will not stand the strain of a long continuance of the hardships that %e- come a second nature to the real prospector, but certainly they were the men who appeared to stand the toil and annoyances of the “trail” most cheerfully, as far as my own observation went.HOW TIMBER IS WASTED.Lakes Tagish and Laberge are connected y à river with very little current, and deep and easy to navigate. This beautiful stream is some fifty miles long, and it flows through some particularily fine scen- try.For some little distance after leaving [ake Marsh, the country ie comparatively flat, the hilla standing back and leaving large stretches of almost pastoral looking land on either bank. The vegetation when we pasted was beautifully green and vignr- Gus, grass growing in many places luxur- 1antly, while the woods contained many fine specimens of pine.spruce, poplar, cat- tonwood, and a dense growth of willow bushes.lined the shores. On nearing Miles Canon, the mountains became higher and closed in on the river. All the way along, the sides of these mountains, und in particular in the gulches in between them, were well wooded with, in many places, a heavy growth of what was to us surprisingly fine trees.Timber is nbso- Intely indispensable to the miner, and is as least aa valuable as the gold, and vet so thoughtless and eelfishly indifferent are the people, that for hundreds of miles along the rivers and lakes the woads were alftnze, ignited from camp fires care lesaly left burning.Dozens of times we saw men embarking from the wooded hanks.and within a quarter of an hour a column of black smoke ascending to the sky from burning spruce and pine trees. For daya the atmosphere was thick with smoke, and hundreds of square miles of ood timber must have been destroyed brondlh the selfish indifference of men who would not stretch out a hand for a pail of water to prevent the destruction of a million cords of good’ wood that did not belong to them.Timber is already seszrce in the Yukon, and a few more years of this kind of thing will effectuaily settle the question of how long the mining industry that has eprung up so recently will kart.THE WHITE HORSE RAPIDS.We reached Miles Canon on the evening of the 8th and tied up among hundreds of other boats to await the morrow hefore deciding how we would overcome the only serious obstacles to the navigation of these extensive waierways—the White Horse Rapids and tes Canon.a next morning we were up early and started to walk along the bank from the head of Miles Canon to the foot af White Horse Rapids, a distance of sbme five miles, in order to decide whether we wou'd under {take to run our own boat through.these tha difficult places. There was more than one alternative, We might have avoided danger of the water altogether by having our goods transported over one of the two tramways that are constructed on either bank for that purpose. These enterprises are in the hands of private parties, who ask a rate of three cents a pound fer the service which, with the average +, would amount to about $150 or $200.This is, of course, the safest method, but too expensive for most people, and the most popular plan with those who havdrhad no experience in handling a boat in rapids in to engage a pilot who takes a boat through the Canon and the rapids for from $15 to .ese pilots are running the, rapids constantly and thay know where thé rocks are, and should ‘Le able to take à boat ait Eh mile miles 4nd we mw 1 x a save | aterm) ts ek by them, ed t @d we decided to take te Tk and run ouers who had murdered two prospectors | + HEY TO DAWSON CTY, their ! that time twn thousand boats had as we were lifting | smack of fresh fish the t decidedly a pasty place.‘It is 0 e, with the water runni very rapid- 5 between perpendiculsr walls of solid rock. The water is Jed up in the middle and the currents and eddies are very treacherous, the danger of being th against the rock walls being considerable.Wa saw a boat swung against the wall by the stream and her bow was so ly smashed that she had to be landed and un- londed at the first opportunity.Still the thing is easy enough if the steersman keeps cool, and a couple of oarsmen keep good h y on the boat.Beyond the Canon, there is a pasty stretch of water, led the Squaw Rapids.A rocky shoal splits the stream right in the centry, and unless the boat is under control there is danger of running on it.The day we passed it there was a large craft et there wi six men and some horses on board and they had then been there five days. One or two boats had run against the rait and there was a considerable “‘muss-up” there.Farther on, the White Horse Rapids are reached, and this seemed us the gimplest part of all.THERE IS VERY LITTLE DANGER, here, if one keeps steerage way on the boat, ad avoids one or two rocks which are plainly seen.At the foot of the rapids there is a drop of some feet where the water rushes ut a great pace between two large rocks. The space is large enough to allow any large boat ta pass throu All that ia neces sary here is to keep the boat from swinging round-the current does the rest.he water is very rough, with a good deal of spray, and most boats ship a good deal of water. The boats are covered over with canvass and tarpaulins to protect the car- gees and any passenger who objects to getting wet had better take the overland route over this part of the trip.e ran our boat through the whole.thing without touching anything, and when we dropped down at the bottom of the White Horse, we did not ship more than a quart or two of water.Altogether it seemed to me that the Canon and the rapids need not be feared by boatmen of any experience, and 1 should think that the tramway people, who have gone to heavy expense, have made a very poor investment. The day we were there boats were running the rapids at the rate of fully fiftedn to twenty an hour all day long aud a great part of the night, and, though the majority of them were taken through by their owners, the accidents were comparatively few.We saw, perhaps, fully a half a dozen boats, out of 200, wrecked or coe to more or less grief, but in every instance the damage was the result of bad han…
g or carelessness.A BUSY SPOT.There waa quite a little settlement of log- buildings at the head of the rapids forned by the officers of the tramway companies, a saloon or two, post-office and police barricks and the day we were there, there must hive been one thousand people camped in the nieghborhood. It is estimated that up to I r passed the rapids this season and the total losses had been a few cargoes sunk, a good many | hoats wrecked and their contents damaged by moisture, and as far as we could ascertain, about half a dozen men drowned.Considering the unserviceable nature of so many of the boats, and the inexperience of the men handling them, this seems to me to prove that, after all, those much dreaded rapids are not 80 bad as they are made out to be.THE ARGOSIES OF THE ARGONAUTS.After leaving the rapids there is a short day's run down the Lewes River to the head of Lake .The current here im awifter than above the rapids, and one makes better progress, though ere, as elsewhere, om our trip, we were unable to make use of our sail on account of head winds. At the head of the lake, we found several hundred boats.tied up, some of them having been there as long ns four or five days waiting for the wind to change.Lake Labarge is thirty-one miles long, and ho one wants to pull a boat through still water for this distance, even in cam weather. With head winds and sens, the thing is impossible, and as thers was a stiff breeze blowing the wrong way after we arrived there we had to wat wb the rest of the crowd. It was not ti e second day that the wind suddenly changed, and within half an hour- sai) was set, and the biggest fleet that we had as yet been in started across the lake.Al her from one end of the lake to the other there was a continuous procession of boets that must have numbered close on a thousand one could have simost thrown a biscuit from one boat to the other right along the whole thirty-one wiles of the lake.e boais had all been delaved like ourselves at various points by head winds, and now that there was an opportunity to get across everybody continued, sailing all night. We left the head ; ake early m with a very light breeze reached the foot lake, the next morning a little before noon.A WELCOME FISH.It was on this Jake that we ca ht first fish. All along we had sod spoon bait trolling, but we had RO Success, except on Lake Labarge, where we caught two fine Arctic trout, and oat another just m into boat. This was to us a treat that realize who has not been weeks at a time to salt pork, beans, and baking powder bread. We were considerably disappointed at our want of success in fishing as we could see that | the fs: were there in lrge numbers. Some people at the Various camping set nete at t, and with these they invariably, caught a considerable number of fish.We had no net, and we had to swallow our envy—and our salt pork.Altogether in e matter of game, we were disappointed. We had expected to get scme ducks and had had dim visions of roast goose, but though we saw a few ducks al} along the route, and here and there faintly heard the distant cackle of Reese, we never had a chance of Landing anything.no one can fully condemmed for UNEXPECTED OBSTACLES.Flowing out of this lake is what is known as the “Thirty Mile River,” which is the local name for that part of the Lewes. Here the current is very swift, ranning from 4 to 5 miles an hour, Legan to make the best progress that we had yet made, and were eginning to feel good in consequence, when suddenly our mirth was stopped by the skipper calling us to man the oars quickly, and put like ig rock 0 —! WASHINGTON, July 27 —Spain wants peace, But she may as well make up her mind to the fact that she will have to fight a great deal more before she gets it, This does not mean that President McKinley ls op to peace. It docs mean, however, that he has from experience become acquainted with Spanish diplomacy, tice pending negotiations, during which Spdn can re-inforce the weak spots in her positions, to be in better shape for war, &hould the negotiations fall through and hostihties resumed. The French Ambassador's call in Spain's behalf at the White House yesterday, was an event of high importance, and yet it will not do to jump at the conclusion that ve is already here, or, indeed, that it is immediately in sight. The visit was merely a preluninary one.It is belleved by the Administration that negotiations will follow and t a treaty of peace will ultimately result, but there ia the bighest authority for saying that no direct proposition has yet been made on either side, and that Spain has not ye: tiken the indispensable step of asking upon what terms the United States will ady to end the war.re SIMPLY A FEELER.It is explained by this same authority that .the messa resented to the President was wmply a Tocler, to ascertain whether this Goverument was ready to receive proposi- tons, in case they shoud be made. The length of the Ambassador's interview leads to the inference that a number of subjects were discussed, and it ia probable that sug gestions were made that owed that Spain, at last, was wilhng to concede the indu- pendence of Cuba. This would be a pre requisite in all overtures for peace, for unless Cuban independence werd first concede, mo trust could be reposed in the smneenty of the Government at Madrid.Whether the conversation went hevond this point is not known. The Premdent gave the emissary of the Spanish Ministry no as- suranc:, beyond an expression of his own illingness and the willingness of the Ad- minim ration, to bring the war te a close, if that could be done under proper condi tions. He gave no formal reply, and noue wil] be given until after further discussion by the ident and his advisers.THE TERMS OF PEACE.It may be said with confidence, however that Spain will be informed that the l'mted States is ready to hear further fromm her wi to a termination of the war. This hext move will be a request by tbe ish Government for a statement oi the terms upon ich we are willing to bring the war to an end.1 am enabled, through the courtesy of a distinguished member of the Administra tion, to predict up to a certain point the nature the reply which the Administra tion will make.; ; .First of all, President McKinley will demand the withdrawal of the Spanish forces from the Island of Cuba with a view to the lishment there of a stable tiovernment.nd, he will demand the payment of an indemnity for the cost of the war, which has been undertaken to drive Mpain out of Cuba; and as Spain cannot pay a money indemnity, he will insist upon her cedin the island of Porto Kico in fee simple, anc thus abandon all her possessions in the ‘Western hemisphere.Thard, he will ask for a eettlement of the questions arising in the Far East from our operations in the Philippines and in the Ladrones. He will.insist upon permanent American occupation of a naval station, and à port in the Philippines: + whether he will go so far as to demand the entire island of Luzon, or the entire daira archipelago, bas not yet been decided.MANY DELAYS LIKELY.The President will be gitided in a large measure by what he conceives to be the sentiment of the people with regard to the nt possession of terntory in the Yar East.Tlux ia à problem with which he has not yet gmppled. The real test of the Spanish purpose will come after these conditions have been stuted formally: and the Administration has no expectation : at Madrid will yield to all our demands when made.It ie believed that the first hitch will withdrawal” of Spain from the western h The Spanish Government will ing any conces£ons beyoud This would ngo, but is je superfluous to say that it will pot be cient now.= With the first intimation by Spain that pe will begin, and’ dE MO be of y in, is may a long and wearisome road.WILL GIVE NO ARMISTICE.It may be that Spain will ask for an armistice, while these iations are go ing on, and the Administration realizes that .this may A peace; but there It is in the name of ° Spain that M.Cambon, who 1s charged to | i the Administration how much pressure has ‘ - eur demande.and | he has no intention ot w when Spain announces her willingness to sccede to the minimum of our demands.Commissioners will be appointed by eac Government and they will meet in some neutral capital to formulate a treaty. The American commissioners can be appointed by the President us his personal representatives, but, beyoud the formulation of a treaty through their assistance, the Ad- nuListration cannot go in determining the conditions of peace, for before the Lreaty goes into effect it will have to be retifi » the Senate, which will probably be called in special session to expedite final action.by the fact that Cuba is not yet in its possession, and that Blanco’s army still retains its base in Havana. This will giye Spain an opportunity to à for concessions elsewhere ui return for abandoning Cuba without a campaign, and here will be found material for any amount of diplomatio parley. There is no present intention of demanding the cession of the Carolines Islands, and as has been said.the question of the dispo- &:tion of the Philippines and the Ladrones 1s still open.WILL CONTINUE TO FIGHT.The important point to be borne in mind 16 that Spain's advances towards peace will not interfere in any way with she vigorous prosecution of the war, “We shall nego- tate as we fight,” said my informant, “lu estimating the probability of a speedy cul mination of negotiation, it will be necessary to consider the attitude of the Eurgpean Powers to Span.It is not just known by been brought to bear upon the govérnment at Madrid by the Powers, or just how far they will go in compelling her to accede to If ,they inmst upon peace and ÿnve Spain te understand in unmistakable terms that she inust no longer stand in the way, then peace may come more speed- ¢ ily than some now think.THE IM} oRIAL IDEA, Mr.McKinley is not personally in favour of retaining the Philippines, but he is gen- "erally quick tw respond to the wishes .of the * peuple and it is the prevailing opinion here that he will discover that a strong demand exists that America should never Tower the Stars and Stripes in any land she has won or may win during the present war, aud that he will act accordingly. In interviews this inorning, Senator Mor- : gan, (Democrat), and Senator Foraker, (Re- pubhcan), both of the Foreign Relations Committee, which will have to pass on a treaty of peace before it 1s presented tu the Senate for a vote, express themselves in favour of this country retaining every island wrested from Spain by conquest.THE OFFICIAL STATEMENT of the Spanish proposals is as follows: “The French Ambassador, on behalf of the Government of Spain, and by direc tion of the Spanish Vinistor of Foreign Affairs, presented to the President afternoon, al the White House, a message from the Spanish Government, looking to the termmation of the war, and the settlement of the terms of peace.” M.Jules Cambon remained with the President for about an hour. The proposition submitted Was quite general in terms and wax confined to the one essential point of an earnest plea that negotiations opened for the purpose of termnating the war and arriving at terms of peace. The com- mumication of the Spanish (Government did not ruggest anv specific terms of peace nor was there any reference made to Cuba, Porto Rico, the Philippines, or other Spanish possessions. The evident purpose of the Madnd authorities was first to learn whether the United States would treat on the subject of peace, and after that to take up such questions as the two parties might gest.Neither was there any suggestion from the Spanianis that an arm- jatice be established pending the negotia- ONE.After some discussion, it was finally determined that the President would conault the members of his Cabinet conrerning the proposition, and that after a decision had wen arived at, M.Cambon would then be invited to the White House for further conference.A CABINET CONSULTATION.Durug the late afternoon and evening the President conferred with most of the members of the Cabinet and the Xpanish propoætion was thoroughly canvassed.Secretaries Day, Alger and Long were at the White House dung the afternoon, and in the evemng the President was joined b Secretaries Bless aud Wilson, and Post.master-Ueneral Smith. There was mo Cabinet meeting m the ordinary semse, but these talks with mdividual members served about the same purpose as a formal meeting. It was understood the President would be prepared to give an answer with- m the next few days, and certainly be fore the next regular Cabinet day on Friday. No imunation came irom any officni source &s to the probable character of the answer. The conferenæ of Secre Alger, Bli Wilson aad Smith, with de oi last ed until pearly equivocal de njals from Madrid recently, when enquiries on the subject of the reported péace negotiations were seemingly given eut at the Spanish capital prior to Spdiñ'a formal ap pucation at DAY OF RETRIBUTION.Hon.John F.Wood Thinks it Near at Hand for Mr.Hardy.TY THINKS THE FEDERAL LIBERALS EVIDENCE WEAKNESS.Hon.John F.Wood, ex-AHnister of Inland Revenue.Brockville, Ont, was at the Hall yesterday.Discussing the alleged charges of bribery made against Conservative members of the Ontario Legislature, he sald: : “We have no fear of the results in the election courts, as ouF party had no money at the last election.” They did not have sufficient funds for purposes of legitimate organization, and ad sald before, we have nothing to fear in t direction.“The feeling of Grits and Tories may.” he stated, be easlly neasured by the fact that no Ontario Liberal wants to discuss the question. All fair-minded people in both political camps realize that cven it Hardy should succeed, it will only be a Short postponement of the day of retribution and defeat, for go he must sooner or later.” Mr.Wood also declares that there are a good many Libera! members of the House of Commons who now believe that Hardy's fall is inevitable, and that If it has got to come the sooner the better for the Reform party.During the last local campaign.he mays, the Conservulives profited by the fact thal long years of power had repdered a great many supporters lukewarm, and this apathetic feeling has now become general and is more Intense than ever before.“What course will Mr.Whitney and his friends adopt when the Legislature meets?’ Mr.Wood was then asked.“I do not believe the Government has more than five of a majority, and I am of the opinion that the Opposition will fight the measure till the snow comes They are thoroughly convinced that the province is behind them in combatting this iniquitous measure, and, no doubt, will fight it to the bitter end." Referring to Dominion polities, Mr.Wood declared that the Ottawa Government is exhibiting great weakness. On the contrary, the ‘Conservative party was never better united. He put little faith in the rumour about a general election this autumn. He considered Sir Wilfrid's policy of making each Minister supreme In h.s own department to be a failure. The result of thiz was that instead of discussing and maturing all important measures in Council, and receiving the advice and sanction of his several colleagues, one of Sir Wiltrid's colleagues will leave his department, walk over to the House of Commons and bring down a Government bill, and all the time his colleagues will be as ignorant of its detaila and often of the principle as the man in the moon.nt CHANTILLY IS A BEAUTY.The amendment was lost, only Ald, Sad.'] 1a2dsome New Sleeping Car Built for the Canadian Pacific.Reference was made in the r some nam to the and ‘was vester- ay afternoon transferred f, fint specimens of comfort for the travelling public that has ever been secon in this country.pany ficinis claim there ia nothing like it in the 1d.The Interior of decoration is Louts XV.ivory and gold being the predominatt effects.ore Jon- gers, of » desi eo decorations, which are of à la cha: particul tor.Among the leading Hew car are the enl Xl sma a) ment, ligh by electricity from dyna- Ios on the axles, the latest Improved platform and axie devices.and beauty of nearing completion the shope.© pl Prices a couistey ci boards stil) remain firm.At She (pbellford cheese board, held yesterduy, 130 ‘boxes white were led.‘are the sales: vera] more of these curs are UPTOWN Messenger Service A feature of the new Branch Office of “The Star,” corner of Peel and St.Catherine Streets, which will prove a great convenience to uptown residents, storekeeper! and others, is the Bicycle Messenger Ser vice maintained in conjunction with the Telegraph Department of the office.Mes sengers can be had ac any time between the hours of 8 Am.and 11 p.m.The telephone call number for a messenger is 3532, PHILLIPS SQUARE [ ¢ LLINEN, Suiting.for Most ladies are aware that it is a difficult matter just to get the size and style they require in a White Muslin Waist.Anticipating a demand for this particular garment, we placed our orders ahead, and are now in a position to supply intending purchasers.Sizes, 32, 34, 36, 38 and 40 in.Prices, $1.50, $1.75, $2.25, $2.50, $2.75.$3.00 aad $3.50.000000000000 Just received, a quantity of CRASH Skirting Also a line of White Ground PIQUE, with coloured figures.and Bicycle ++
