it will also cure the soarlet fever. Here is the dren of scarlet fever; here it is as I have used it to oure the small-pox; when learned physicians said the patient must die, it cured : Sulphate of zine, 1 grain; foxglove (digitalis), 1 grain; glycerine, one tablespoon- full; mix thoroughly, and add 4 ess.of water.Dose : one tablespoonfull every hour; for a child, smaller doses, according to age.Either disease will disappear in twelve hours. If countries would cempel their physicians to use this there would he no need of pesthouses. If you value advice and ex- | perience use this for that terrible disease.” I add the glycerine instead of a half s tea- spoonfal of sugar.Yours, À SUBSCRIBER.—Pm ROUND TOWN.the Post — The next British mail closes at Office on Monday at 2.30 p.m.— Rev.Mr.Donovan preaches in Russell: Hall, St.Catherine street, to-morrow.—These are not the liveliest times for bats, but one of these ungainly c-eatures was captured to-day near the French Church by Mr.G.W.Stephens and earried in triumph to his offiee.- = The Treasurer of the Montreal Prctest- ant House of Industry and Refuge, begs to acknowledge with thanks the sum of $50 from the estate of the late A.H.Vass, Eeq., by the hands of R.H.Btephens, Esq., exesutor; they turned out fifty cents in coppers! Secondly, he came before the public in connection with the Lachine body-snatohing ease, and withdrew under rather questionable ciroumstanees.Te-day we have to present him to our readers for the third and, we suppose, last, time.He is not dead, but he is in Havana, whither he went some few weeks since under circumstances which will prevent him again shewing his face in Montreal. To make a disagreeable story short, he is eharged with having raised funds by vietimising friends, and to have run away with a sister-in-law aged 16, leaving behind a wife and two children. It is alleged that he effected the ruin of the young girl some two years back.We are not in a position to state the extent of his financial operations, but do not think they were very extensive.°° Such is this sad phase of Montreal life.POLICE COURT.Before W.H, Brehaut, P.M, : Saturday, Jan.13.Antoine Crevier vs.—— Lusignan, assault and battery.—Defendant arrested one Du- bois yesterday for theft, and this action was, it seems, in consequence taken. It was al- loged that the defendant violently threatened to strike the plaintiff with a bar of iron, and had pushed Wm.‘The proof was so doubtful that his Honor dismissed the action with costs. It came out, incidéntally, that Cre- vier sells liquor in the tenement without a license. The Revenue Department's doun- Tol waa present, and took note of this irregu- arity.'
