Extension Montreal Annex VOL.VI.No.38.MONTREAL.FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 28th, 1934.___PRICE—TWO CENTS FINE START OF NORTH BRANCH ¥ PHYSICAL DEPT Record Crowd Greets W.A.Wellband, New Director, At Initial Appearance. On Tuesday the Physical Department activities of the North Branch Y.M.C.A.got off to a good start under the leadership of Mr.W.A.Well- band.A record attendance for the first night greeted him from the Young Men's Division class, when 21 members appeared for the opener. It is expected that this gym class which meets on Tuesday and Friday at 8.15 will be hitting at the top peak of its form in a couple of weeks time.Combining well-directed exercises with a hilarious period of group games the boys left the floor feeling satisfied that they had enjoyed an evening well spent. After a shower and a plunge in the swimming pool, life seemed to take on a different complexion, For the businessmen Mr.Wellband will conduct two classes on Tuesday and Friday at 5.30 combining volleyball and health exercises, and Tuesday and Thursday at 12.30 for those who prefer the noon hour.Residents and businessmen of the North End are invited to make inquiries concerning these classes which will add much to the enjoyment of life, and an antidote to the influence of intensive work, crowded days and cramped quarters.Outremont Ladies’ Softball Players The first play-off game in the best two-out-of-three series for the championship of the Outremont Ladies’ Softball League took place Sunday afternoon at Rockland Field.A large gallery saw the Cuckoos take a lead early in the game which the Rooks could not overtake, and the final score read 15-8 for the Cuckoos. The game was exciting throughout.Heavy hitting featured the play of both sides, with a lot of good field work.Kay McElligott and Jean Mel- ancon played a good game in the field for the losers, with Lillian Wade and Mary Griffin also starring.Ernie Whittingham, with a reputation for the best fielding pitcher in the league, lived up to it with a couple of nice recoveries to her credit besides excellent work on the mound.Kay Powell and Ursula Hecklinger, Cuckoo battery, did some very clever work, Miss Hecklinger pegging the ball down to Millie Riley at second to make three put-outs.A nice double- play was completed from Retta Riley to her sister at second.Mary O'Brien and Pat McBain also played a wonderful game. The second game of this series will be played Sunday next.Want Ads WILL RENT YOUR Apartments ARE YOU GOING TO LET THAT FLAT LAY IDLE AGAIN THIS WINTER The House-Hunters Are Out in to Christians to be loyal to the truth of the gospel in face of the extreme measures being urged to get the Christian Churches to turn their faces towards medieval conditions instead of keeping front to a larger, greater and more beneficient Christian unity. The preacher took as the basis of his address last Sunday morning Acts 20-24, when St.Paul says “None of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which T have received of the Lord Jesus to testify the gospel of the grace of God”.The clarion call
