Westmount Baptist Church delivered by the Rev.and Mrs.R.W.Porteous of the China Inland Mission and decided that he would pass it on to the other readers of their columns.Mr.Law says in part: “I Christian Missionary work being triumphantly.achieved under most dangerous and trying circumstances and at times the outlook «cemed about hopeless and the temptation may have come to doubt whether God was hearing prayer, but He was working all the time and.as the pastor related some very hazardous experiences of his hundred days’ capture by Chinese Communist bandits it was proven that the trial of Mr.and Mrs.Potteaus faith in God was rewarded. When the story unfolds, it ts seen how wonderful are His ways and how He answers prayer, not always as we have planned but in a much .larger and fuller way, how scores of lives were touched through the prolonged captivity of God's servants in a way that could not have been accomplished had they been immediately released. As God delivered Daniel from the jaws of the lions, so God delivered His servants who call on him in the day of trouble.“But the outstanding message was the power of persistent believing prayer. For three months*thousands of God's people in all parts of the world were daily praying for the captured missionaries.“The position of these honored niissionaries caused much concern and was regarded as being a very dangeroup one as oniy a few weeks before tfeir capture three Finnish ladies, working in association.with the China Inland Mission were cruelly murdered by the bandits.‘When the were accorded the honor of sharing just a little in the fellowship of His sufferings.“Mr.and Mrs, Porteous gave high and worthy praise of the courage, tenacity and devotion of their rescue party consisting of three Chinese Christians) namely Mr.Chan, Mr.Yu and Mr.Hwang, the first being the teacher of the Mission Boys’ School at Yuanchow and the other two being baptized only a few weeks before these events took place. They all endured privations, danger in carrying letters through the communist lines, which was very difficult to accomplish and on several occasions they succeeded on getting written orders for the immediate release of the captive mis- gionaries and their hearts were filled with joy, surprise and sorrow all at once as they found to their disappointment that other 14, 1931 PAGE THREE OUTREMONT HOCKEY LEAGUE “ SCHEDULE POINTS TO VERY BUSY AND LENGTHY SEASON President Roger Lacoste Reports Progress— Jacques Vade- boncoeur ‘to Have Complete Authority as Referee-in- Chief Over Arbitration of All Games—Several Commercial Teams to be Entered This Season.A more eventful season is planned for the Outremont Hockey League this year as evidenced in the rather lengthy sc .edule prepared last night at a meeting in Querbes Academy Hall. With a few exceptions, this seasons schedule is now complete.Provision wae made for the withdrawal of any team through extenuating cireum- stances and due to the fagt that two applications are still pending until the middle of next week, the schédule was in balance, according to Roger Lacoste, Considerable effort hae been spent in negotiations between prospective teams this year, which has created undue difficulty in securing certified agreements, likewise rendering completion of the league's schedule almost impessible at this time. The time limit given to new teams this year was rather long, the presi- .dent reported, and for this reason due consideration should have been given to him in compiling the schedule.Up to last night fourteen teams local league and were assigned their respective duties for the coming season.New Constitution The League will have a conatitu-| * tion of its own, as prepared by the President and submitted for the approval of Directors of the League. It will be compozed of various phases : of hockey rules, in- "cluding those of N.H.L., QAH.A, } Lafontaine, Mount 1 Royal and Spald- ing Leagues. This does not necessarily mean revolu- tionaizing hockey rules ta suit, simply facilitating the proper management of those concerned with the league. An instance of this will be a director to be appointed by each team who will sit as a director of the League. This party will be neutral and not a member of the team which he will represent. The duty of this director will be like to that of other directors of the league, and he will have the same measure of responsibility.Jacque Vadeboncoeur, vice-president and referee-in-chief will have complete supervision over refereeing of games, without having recourse to anyone else.He will assist at or appoint an official referee for each game, and if two of these are not available, he will use a spare. The official referee will be the senior and his instructions will be final as if coming from Vadeboncoeur.: T.Higgins and R.Morrier have been nominated for the coming season. As for games protested, the ruling on this has been somewhat undecided. At this meeting twenty-four hours was given as the limit in which to file protest, and a nominal ckarge will be made in this matter.: Commercial Teams Probably three or four dommercial teams will be entered into te league this year, but, as evidenced in the reports on these ‘applications in each case, all players have been registered locally. This meets with the réarements of the league according t their new constitution, that no less than nine members of every team in the Ou- tremont Hockey League ighpst reside within very snappy at the parade on Wednesday and although there were not as many out at this parade as there were at Sunday’s celebration the outfit were favorably compared by many of the on- lookers and altogether the affair was entirely successful.| - ! The dance which is to be staged by number four company on the 21st of this month also merits the attention of all who enjoy a gala affair and the officers of this company claim that their function will be just that.Ke!- ly’s popular band will be on “tap” and will deal out the melodies.Tickets however are going fast and all who plan to attend this affair are urged to get their pasteboards early lest they meet with disappointment. And the aim of this company is to pleaze all.Don’t miss this dance. It is to be one of the features of the season.Sidelights of the parade Sunday are probably in order—one member of the fair sex who is a constant spectator at most of the events staged at the armoury wae asked for her opinion of the dismissal and said: “I think they are just too cute for words”.If that reply isn't the height of something or other we give up the sponge —or whatever one is supposed to give, up on such an occasion.: But getting from the ridiculous to the sublime—one acribe furnished the following opinion.—“Imipressions of The lads turning up early at the The crowd at the church—inside it fact everywhere but on the rafters— gilence — gee — what a long two ‘The dinner—the slackening of belts lest they should break under the strain—the fall in—the march to the cenotaph—those two minutes again— the same gulp in the throat—the same thoughts—the many who placed wreaths on the cenotaph—the march back-—the many citizens who lined of prizes—Colonel Strange—fine The sudden let down after dismis- sal—the realization that the day was almost spent—the dusk outside—it’s only five o’clock—one gets go tired — just standing still or marching @ bit.The achool of arms will be starting any day now and the lads will have a at-arm which takes place in March Lads of à mechanical turn of ménd are urged to turn out with this ma-|§ chine gun outfit.Get into the game: now while the platoon is young.Soon!
