He went to Ottawa determined to give the Federal Liberals a blood transfusion. But the patient soon enough relapsed, because its vital organs are sick. And that is where the NDP comes in.Since 1963, when the New Democratic Party eas Adams fo run in Westmount made its first real breakthrough in votes in Quebec, it has made immense progress. Now, under the vigourous leadership of Robert Cliche, it forms a rallying-point for Quebec progressives.Quebec's voice in tackling the serious problems in domestic policy (inflation, the war on poverty, job retraining, bargaining rights for civil servants, Canadian unity) cannot be the voice of the Liberal Old Guard. The NDP offers Quebec voters a clear choice for a Canada devoted to genuine reform and unity at home and willing to speak and act boldly for peace abroad.” Conservatives are conferring here privately Westmount Conservatives — who have sven their fortunes ebb and flow during the days of Hon.R.S.White, Hon.Douglas Abbott, A.R.Webster and the present incumbent — are back in the candi- date-hunting business today.Peter Kerrigan, it is understood, is not secking the nomination again, and while a nominal.ing convention is being tentatively planned for a couple of weeks from now, the ‘back-room’ boys are taking a good close look at several possibilities. As is usual at this stage of operations, a cloud of silence fis hanging low over Westmount Tories. “Why eat breakfast when you want to lose weight?” “I don’t feel like eating anything in the morning.” ‘Breakfast just isn’t necessary.” All too often we hear these comments. So why eat breakfast? To keep away from high calorie snacking all the rest of the day is one reason. To maintain high reaction time, alertness and efficiency late in the morning is another reason.Because you haven't eaten anything for about 12 hours is a third reason. These are especially important for school-age children. When children are allowed to skip breakfast, they get too hungry before lunchtime.Overweight children need breakfast just as much as other children, They need to maintain the same late-morning efficiency. The high calorie snacking is detrimental to appetites, nutrition and the scales. The breakfast meal should supply % to % of the day's supply of protein and calories. What you eat for breakfast is not so important as that you do eat something.A cereal-milk-fruit breakfast is easy and quick to fix.Add other foods for complete calorie and nutritional adequacy.September is Better Breakfast Month.Let's start the school year out right — with breakfast. It's the most important meal of the day.The first meeting of the fall season, of the Xavier Apostolate Guild, will be held on Monday, at Congress Hall, Dorchester street west.: 7, A Mass will precede the meét-] ing in the Lady Chapel of St.Patrick's Church at 12 noon.Luncheon, under the convener- ship of Miss B.Quigley will be served in Congress Hall" after, the Mass.1 Mrs.F.H.Ditchburn, president, will chair the meeting. The guest speaker will be Father Francis Reynolds, moderator of the “Sunshine Club” an organization for senior citizens, which ® GOLD ® COPPER ® BRASS © CHROME ® NICKEL ¢ RHODIUM © CADMIUM © SILVER REPAIRED REPLATED REFINISHED LACQUERED JOHN H.FEELEY & Sons Lid.Est.1899 Repairing Silversmiths and Elec- tro Platers, Operating Canada's Largest High Class Job Shop, WE CALL FOR AND DELIVER 1437 Aylmer St.VI.5-7947 (A few doors above St.Catherine St.) Opposite Henry Morgan & Co.Xavier Guild meets Monday is non-denominational and City wide. The subject of his talk will be “Growing Old Youthfully”.Members and their friends are urged to attend.Genuine Choice Western BEEF QUALITY IS ECONOMY HAINES OF WESTMOUNT ‘Noted for Quality" Purveyor of High Class Quality Meats, Fresh Killed Poultry, Groceries, Fruits & Vegetables *IMPORTED PRODUCTS® NICHOL'S, Lennoxville, | BACON, SAUSAGE & | ' FARMHOUSE BUTTER | 4466 St.Catherine West Near Metcalfe Ave.WE.7-9455-6 Social and Mr.and Mrs.Alfred Kinsman have returned from Toronto where they attended the wedding of Miss Jane Sears to Mr.John - Charles Cakebread which took place on Saturday.Mrs.Lou I.Miller.12 Chesterfield avenue, Westmount, and her two young daughters, Laurie and Audrey have returned from Swanton where they spent the summer vacation.Miss Pauline Hurtubise, president of the Junior Council of | The Catholic Women's of Canada announces the open- League Personal ing tea and first general meeting for the 1965-66 scason to be held on Thursday, September 23 in the Vice-Regal Suite at the Ritz Carlton Hotel at 6:30 p.m.Mr.and Mrs.Harold Corrigan, who spent some time in Rye, N.Y., have taken up residence at 477 Strathcona avenue, West- mount.Mrs.H.Cooper.32 Springfield | avenue.has returned home after spending the summer at Swanton, ; the guest of her daughter, Mrs.L.1.Miller.— Mrs.A.W.Gordon, chairman of «the Elizabeth Shop of the RELAX end enjoy a scientific FACIAL end neck massage. You will feel nervous tension fade away with this invigorating beauty revitalizes vour skin.Dr.N.G.Payot finishing touch.of Paris add the Make vour appointment now with Mme.Wanda Phone WE.5-0796 | treatment which Lovely cosmetics by perfect IRA wo ore Pane pe ¥ Lu Rd pr Le NS A 1 gue 2a! Redwings on our feeding tray are something new, because they ordinarily build in or beside swampy ground and there is nothing like that near us.However, on finding that their former territory was occupied by a new house and a family of children, this pair evidently decided that they would try their luck amidst alder bushes at our shore instead of cattails and lily pads.We cannot reach the nest either by land or by water, but imagine it must be, like any other Redwing's, woven of coarse grasses and lined with finer grass, roots, or decayed vegetation of some kind.until we backed away from the window, then came and grabbed a bit of bread and fled off with it towards the children. They all ate their own weight every day, so she was a busy mother. If we persisted in staying close fo the window.she went to the suet, hanging dexteriously sideways on the wire. She managed to pull out quite large pieces of suet, and devoured so much that we feared she would have to be given reducing pills.Bul she generally (ook a lump to the family. Her husband, meanwhile, appeared to do nothing but sing i “conk-kar-ree”’.and occasionally visit the feeding tray to get bread and corn for himself, He does not carc for suet.In his jet black suit with the scarlet and yellow epaulettes he is quite beautiful, especially when he spreads his wings and sings.Hard working mother is a little like a large, pointed billed Sparrow, with quantities of tiny brown specks sprinkled all over her underparts.Any day now the juveniles should be old enough to join flocks of other Blackbirds and travel south.Construction takes almost a week, and almost another week passes before the female lays the first of about 4 eggs, one a day.But they are not incubated until the whole clutch is laid. Then they all hatch at once in about twelve days.Mrs.Redwing wanted to bring up the children on bread, but she is so shy that she found it hard to stop long enough on the feeding tray to look over the supply and choose the right size and shape as do most of the mothers. She sat on a nearby twig, flipping her tail around and giving her disagreeable ‘‘cack’ eall CORONET GUNS AND GUNSMITHING INC.4020 St.Catherine St.West (Westmount) Montreal 6 Tel.932-0881 ‘Everything for the hunter and shooter‘ As you watch football on TV: “take five” for fifty ale!
