furthermore, it does not have to be completed until March 31, 2015.There is ample time, therefore, for City Council to address the real needs Dir Leade with./erruques de Qualité, 1% 9 Order Quality Wigs, un.5847 Cote-des-Neiges, Montréal + (514 581-0403 4915-A St-Charles, Pierrefonds» (514) 677-9447 1.877.676.7337 www.OrderQualityWigs.com RL Hada Wigs® and legitimate concerns of Westmount residents.Good governance depends on this.Fred Girvan, Victoria Avenue Carol Pass, de Maisonneuve Blvd.Garbage in, garbage out Dear Editor, Thank you for your continued coverage of the challenges facing the Westmount community from various mega-projects, both outside and within the City.Your editoral was a much needed reminder of the first principles of urban planning and development: the need to respect and protect the human scale of residential neighbourhoods. If Westmount has won a National Award for being a green community, it is not because it is over-run by bunker-style, mega hockey rinks and undergound garages.LR LJ [ 1517 avenue des Pins ouest - Montréal (Québec) H3G 1B3 |) (métro Sherbrooke et autobus 144 ou métro Guy et autobus 165/535) | (514) 934-0596 Our Mayor and Council seem determined to hide behind a completely"one- sided April survey. Please check with any high school student. They are constantly being reminded in their quantitative methods class : “garbage- in, garbage-out”.Whatever you put into a mathematical regression determines the results, high levels of confidence about what is being inferred notwithstanding. The information package that accompanied the April survey resorted to part- truths and scare-mongering.A non-random, self-selected group of respondents did the rest. The survey does not reflect the will of the people. It behooves City Council to not use it as a mandate to “damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead” Sincerely, Gotham Hooja, de Maisonneuve Blvd, ta 389199 5673 Monkland N.D.G.1482-3347 Es 0102 + 12quaaoN Sepsiny | WON IAUIUTEXIIUNOUNSIM MMM ll 6 Thursday, November 4, 2010 www.westmountexaminer.com St.Margaret's integrated into CSSS Cavendish Wayne Larsen - Major integration process invol An three local long-term care facilities has Westmount’s St.Margaret’s residence merged with CHSLD St.Andrew’s and Father Dowd into the CSSS Cavendish — an administrative move that officials say will make things much easier for both residents and staff. The merger, which came into effect on Oct.1, was decided last June and officially ratified at a public meeting at CHSLD headquarters downtown on Sept.29.“Board members are very mindful of the rich heritage of our homes, so deciding to relinquish our independent status was a tough call,” said CHSLD board president Fergus V.Keyes.“However, all things considered, it is clear that merging with a larger, stronger organization like CSSS Cavendish — which shares our vision as well as our unrelenting commitment to the English-speaking community — is the best way to carry on the legacy built by generations of dedicated employees, volunteers and benefactors.” The decision to integrate the three long- term care homes into CSSS Cavendish was reached after an extensive study carried out Centre D'Accueil St.Margaret on Hillside Avenue is now a part of CSSS Cavendish.Photo: Wayne Larsen by independent consultants commissioned by the CHSLD board’s strategic planning committee. It was deemed the “best path forward” if the CHSLD was to maintain its fundamental mission to “serve those who wish to receive their services in the English language.” The merge is expected to have minimal impact on the services provided by the St.Margaret's home and Day Centre, which has been a fixture on Terry Evans Real estate Broker 514-933-6077 WESTMOUNT: Bright, affordable 3 bedroom, 2 bath condo, steps to Greene Ave.bike path and transportation.Wood floors, 2 balconies and spectacular views of the mountain! especially because this very thing happened last year to widespread Montreal outcry. This year, the fire of public backlash was doused almost immediately. As soon as the vaguest whisper of it began, officials blurted out an apology, threw open the doors to poppy sales and whipped together a very nice PR move in the form of a sizable donation to the veterans.Of course, you can sell poppies here, the Courcy family from St.Hyacinthe or the Audets from Montreal or the Renauds from Alma - who all lost loved ones in the ongoing war in Afghanistan.Tell that to the families of the 24 other fallen Quebecers. And the many more praying for their sons and daughters to come home safely.I really want to know what goes through the mind of the decision- makers who say no to the annual poppy campaign.Hey guys, thanks for the personal sacrifice and the bravery and the freedom and all that, but we need to make room for our pre-Christinas sales.Mind- boggling.A poppy isn’t a meaningless accessory. It’s a symbol of support, of thanks - a quiet offering of respect and pride and peace. Its the very reason any of us are free to cven pursue our livelihoods in the first place. It’s so disheartening that there should be a seemingly yearly struggle for our veterans to set up shop and sell poppies. It's impor- tant to all of us and to our history that we are reminded of what November 11th means. We should be proud that our veterans want to be out there in the first place.Still fighting in their own way even now to make sure we don’t bury our history under present-day trivialities. To those jerks whose immediate reaction was to deny our vets the opportunity — you need to grow a conscience, step out of your corner office for a few moments and talk to a veteran this year.Maybe even buy a poppy and have them pin it on your lapel. In all honesty, as much as I'd love for that to happen I can’t help but secretly hope they miss a few times with that pin.SYMPHONIA ÎLE-DES-SOEURS UNRIVALLED ELEGANCE Just minutes from downtown Montréal, Symphonia takes the fine art of living to new heights.- Iconic towers with maritime and and urban facades - Annual Lansdowne pumpkin- | carve went off again this year, following a heated competition in 2009.I was reluctant to cover this important cultural event because the adults involved are starting to lose their minds.Instead of handing out candy to children they argue about who carves a better pumpkin. This year saw a slight reduction in the number of pumpkins submitted for competition but an increase in the levels of creativity.Everyone agreed that your traditional pumpkin was not going to cut it so we saw some interesting, if unconventional, entries.Participants this year included Mama, Papa, Grandpa Bill, Uncle Shereef, Unky T Bone, Dan, and Genevieve. Some guy named Fred came by but he outright refused to carve a pumpkin, complaining of biased treatment from last year’s as popular with the adults but 1 think the adults are a little out of touch. This is clearly the way of the future.I'm kind of a pumpkin carving revolutionary.” In second place was Papa, with his entry The Little Pumpkin Crusher. It was obvious as the night drew on that Papa took the defeat pretty hard.Claiming to have Googled word pumpkin more than 18,000 times in the past 12 months, he had assumed his victory was all but assured.“And I still could only come up with second place,” he said.“1 just never saw the Iphone coming. How do you compete with a TV screen when you have mentions go to Uncle Shereef for his untitled entry and to Dan for his weird and scary entry Toothpick Teeth. All in all everyone agreed that the 2010 Lansdowne Pumpkin Carve was a success.Trick or Treaters and frigid parents alike all stopped to take part in the event.Opinions were given and congratulations offered and not a little arguing was to be heard as people lingered away eager for their next Halloween score.Even my brother Marlowe got in the game, helping Grandpa Bill with his first pumpkin in 125 years.“Marlowe, why are we doing this anyway?” Grandpa asked, struggling to
