of the current push towards larger “superstations.” “That rang a very pleasant bell with me,” Trent said.Duchesneau’s statement has left some people confused about where the still teaching at 85 By BERNIE O’NEILL The Examiner Now 85, you would think he could sit back and take things slow, content with a lifetime of accomplishment. But there is nothing retiring about Pierre Sévigny, a Westmount resident who remains occupied as a full-time member of faculty of commerce and ninistration at Concordia.Former MP Last week it was announced that the teacher, war veteran.businessman and former MP has been made an Officer of the Order of Canada for his years of service to the public.Another Westmount resident.Marjolaine Hébert.has been recognized for her work in the performing arts.“1 consider it a great honour.” Sévigny said in an interview.noting that the investiture is this spring."I wouldn't miss it for the world.” Born in Quebec City.Sévigny was educated at Loyola.Le Séminaire de Québec and Laval University. He was the president of his class and of the university's student association. His intentions to study law were upset.however.by the outbreak of hostilities in 1939.After he enrolled in the army, he obtained an officer's commission and rose to be a captain in the Royal Canadian Artillery. He served with distinction in Great Britain and on the western front after the D-Day invasion in June 1944.Severe wounds suffered in 1945, during the Battle of the Hochwald Forest, led to the loss of his left leg.“The Germans had a shell with my name on it,” he said.Among his decorations are the HOME OF THE WEEK.ROSLYN CLASSIC: Detached stone, huge 3-storey home 5500s.f.lot; integrated front construction in the suburbs was booming. At the same time.civic pursuits led him to high functions with the Chamber of Commerce: to positions on the boards of three hospitals; and to the presidency of the Canadian Club of Montreal. In 1958.he followed a family tradition and ran for Parliament.PIERRE SEVIGNY After his election in Longueuil, he was Deputy Speaker of the House and in 1959 joined the federal cabinet as associate The Westmount Examiner, Thursday, January 12”, 1995 - § Pierre Sévigny named Officer of Order of Canada minister of national defence.During his years in public life he successfully pushed for simultaneous translation in the House and for the more extensive use of both official languages in the armed forces.Although he stresses that it was others who brought the project to fruition, it is Sévigny who is credited with first presenting the concept of bringing the world’s fair to Canada for our centennial year, and initiating the moves that would lead to Expo 67.Sévigny has been married to his wife, Corrinne, who is also active in public service, for 48 years.“She's always by my side.” His daughter is Superior Court Judge Pierrette factor in the sale is PRICE.The way you use your price-setting power will determine several factors: how quickly the house will sell, how difficult it will be to find a qualified buyer, and how much profit you stand to gain. What happens ifthe price you set is too high?Consider the serious home- seeker whose requirements your house can fill.Suppose there are three such houses available in the area, and the other two carry more realistic price tags. Will that potential buyer even take the time to view yours?it's not healthy, financially, for a home to sit unsold for a long period of time. The first month of initial exposure to the market is generally considered "prime time" for obtaining the best price.Residential real estate specialists agree that very often the first offer received turns out to be the best one.Don't lose this window of opportunity by overpricing.“ * * “Real Advertisement Estate By Reg Morden THE OCEAN IS YOURS Kick off your shoes and walk the flawless Wilfrid M.de Freitas, Bookseller Montreal, Que.H4Z 1K2 Murder almost perfect in Place des | Arts production By SUSAN GRAY The Examiner Gerald Moon's Corps à corps {originally Corpse!) is a neat little play.A resounding international success.it is a clever comic thriller about fratricide à l'anglaise. It also offers something which wouldn't necessarily be expected of the genre: character- driven action. With the current production at Place des Arts, Montrealers are in for a real treat.us the Compagnie Jean Duceppe does justice to the play and more. This is due in no small part to Gilles Pelletier's masterful performance as the cunning yet hapless Major Powell.Mysteries, for obvious reasons, have an enduring hold on the public imagination. But the artful detective story is a product of the carly 19th century.Following Thomas de Quincey's famous On Murder considered as One of the Fine Arts.it was only a matter of time before the search for the perfect crime became its primary objective.Corps a corps fits the mould to a tee.Lawrence Farrant (Luc Guérin) is an unemployed actor who dreams of offing his rich twin brother.Rupert (also played by Guérin). The situation is a classic.Rupert was the “A” student while Lawrence was never good enough. To make matters worse, he lost out on his mother's inheritance to his more successful sibling.Theatre Lawrence 1s a clever guy.For starters.he hires someone else to do his dirty work.Enter Powell (Pelletier).a professional con man with a dirty history: in short, an easy man to spook.Given these two characters’ natures, Lawrence and Powell seem more like mas- ter-slave than employer-employee.The plot's intriguing labyrinthine twists and turns only build on the imbalance.with Powell increasingly hecoming the dupe of his scheming mastermind of a "boss." Moon has given us interesting characters.and a house of mirrors type of plot. That Lawrence is an actor is only right in the circumstances.as corpses come to life and the audience is constantly challenged to figure out motive and even the crime itself.Complicated tea party Judging from this production, director Monique Duceppe isn't one to let a script get in the way of a good story. No, seriously, what 1 mean is that while the sinuous plot works brilliantly on a tactical level, it could conceivably come off a bit too flat, too calculated.Duceppe, on the other hand, makes us feel as if we're at a long and complicated tea party, as her actors whisk on and off to get some more sugar, or poison as the Gilles Pelletier (left) and Luc Guérin star in 1 Moon’ s Corps à Corps at Place des Arts.case may be.Sort of an Alice in Wonderland with more Queens of Hearts.Pelletier sets the pace here.À veteran Quebec actor (Père Leclerc in Jésus de Montréal), he delivers a simultaneously guileless yet dignified performance, no mean feat.Watch him closely, and you'll see the perfect actor/chameleon in action; he's positively reptilian in his ability to switch mood without warning.Guérin, who has the formidable task of playing the twins, handles the transitions smoothly enough.Yet his performance suffers from an over-reliance on the affected actor stereotype. No critique would be complete without a mention of the set (Raymond Corriveau) and lighting (Luc Prairie).Lawrence's dank- Shirley Valentine Shirley Valentine, the witty and poignant play that was a great hit as a movie, will be presented for the first time in Montreal this month.Knowlton’s Emma Stevens, Artistic Director of Echo Art Productions and founder of Theatre Lac Brome, will perform this much loved one-woman tour-de- Photo by ANDRE PANNETON looking, one-room Soho flat lends itself perfectly to Prairie's shadows, while the revolving bar in Rupert's 15 Dawson hockey Blues lose in shootout — again By BOB OLIVER The Examiner Who can blame the Dawson College Blues for having an aversion to overtime shootouts? The hockey Blues lost in an OT shootout for a record fourth time this season, this time bowing 6-5 to Collège Français Monday night at the Outremont Arena. In three previous shootouts Dawson was beaten twice by the Lennoxville Cougars and once by the John Abbott College Is- I s.© emoraïizine” said Dawson coach Bob McEwen after Monday’s loss.“We come in here and play our butts off against a powerful team like Collège Français and the game’s decided by a shootout. Why the league doesn’t let the two teams play overtime until there's a winner is beyond me.As far as I'm concerned a shootout is the same as flipping a coin to see who wins.” Another thing that frustrated the Blues was the fact that they outscored their opponents in two of the three regulation-time periods.Dawson came out of the first period up 3-1 and outgunned their opponents by a 2-) margin in the third frame.A letdown in the middle stanza cost Dawson the game.“They scored three times on the powerplay in the second period and that really hurt us tonight,” McEwen said.“We can’t afford to take penalties like that against a high scoring team like College Français.” Despite trailing 5-3 in the third period the Blues battled back to even the score on goals by Marc Schaffer and Chris Beaudry. In the dying seconds of the five-minute overtime, Dawson came within inches of stealing the victory when Luke Lilly's shot hit Frangais's goaltender François Duhamel and trickled to the goal line before it was smothered. In the shootout — commonly referred to as a “turkey shoot” — Beaudry scored for Dawson.while Claude Chiasson and Fred Piché tallied for Collège Français. In the first period of regulation time, lan Manzano netted a pair for the Blues while Paul Murphy scored Dawson's other goal.Dawson goaltender Eric Collin pe .RGO TST A I iD ce re po sperme ; Ta Ce -
