when we think for a moment of how this money could be used to make millions happier and carry on research to eliminate the principal diseases we are appalled at (he cost and wastefulness of war.How to outlaw war has been discussed by philesophers, political leaders and humanitarians. To date, very little has been achieved, and wars, internal and external, are still being carried on.War can and should be outlawed. The women of the world would arise in their might and denounce war and refuse to let their husbands and sons bear the arms. The nations would become impotent from a war standpoint. If women have not exerted the influence and power they can and should, it is due largely to the fact that throughout the centuries they were regarded as household drudges and subordinates in every respect to man's will and desires. The founders of the early Oriental religions degraded women to a status that denied them ordinary human rights. They were held in subjection to serve man's appetites and bear children over whom they had no control. These Oriental potentates and wealthy residents of Eastern lands were allowed to have harems, These exploited and subjected members of the female sex were kept in seclusion and not allowed to acquire education, Their “situation and position in the Eastern lands is still.deplorable.They cannot voice their opi- pe pt État tn a THE WINNAH! Ricky McKaig of 3149 St.Antoine street turned up at Friday's Unity Boys’ Club Hallowe'en party in this breezy outfit, with “Mr.Unity" splashed across his chest.Club director Maurice Martasine was so intrigued that he called in cameramen and had the tiny muscleman -pose with thoughtful nurse.Miss Joanne Rae of 98 Selby st reet.Ricky was morc interested in movies that were being shown at the time than publicity.and scampered off once before photographers could get their shot, When persuaded to return, he posed anxiously, then hurried back to the evening's entertainment, By it soon became evident that history, for him, began at Newmarket 20 years ago, and ended at Ascol this year.So far so good. But his card sense was a danger lo vested interests at Narkover, and he was sacked. With him disappeared a car stolen from the music master by the science master, six dozen of clarel.labelled “cough mixture,” in a house matron's cupboard, and some letters from a and masters. The white slave traffic is carried on by human degenerates who think only in terms of the profits they can make out of the merchandise they offer to brothel keepers and their visitors. In certain countries there are special districts assigned to these unfortunate human debris. Can it therefore be expected that the women who are regarded as secondary beings by their Oriental masters, and the victims of the while slave traffic can exert any influence upon government or political leaders?Mrs.Linus Pauling told one interviewer that “Women's apathy was incomprehensible’: she felt that the comforts enjoyed by the.women of the United States made for an apathy that did not concern itself with activity in a campaign to abolish war.Bernard Rose —Tedd Church Photo “ At Unity Boys' Club Awards to highlight parent-child dinner By MAURICE MARIASINE The Seventh Annual Father and Son Banquet and the Sixth Annual Mother and Daughter Banquet will be held at the Club Tuesday, November 24, for the former and on Wednesday, November 25, for the latter — proceedings in each case to start at 6.30 p.m.sharp.The banquets, an annual affair since 1953, will once again be held in conjunction with Sports Award Night and Head Table guests will include top personalities from the World of Sport. The banquets also offer an opportunity for the parents to attend with their children and see for themselves what is going on at the Club. It’s an opportunity for the parents to meet the full-time and volunteer staff and to discuss any problems which might exist.Banquet-time at Unity is one of highlights of the entire program season. In addition to a delightful dinner, the evening's program will also include a sing-song, entertainment, a question and answer period with some of the best known athletes of the country conducted by an equally well-known radio sport’s commentator and the distribution of awards won during the season.A highlight of this year's banquets will be the letter of achievement awards presented for the first time to the Club members who qualify under the regulations set up two years ago.The award is based on participation in program, leadership and service. Two club members have attained this distinction and will receive their letters and certificate at the banquet. All club members are invited to the banquets. If Mom and Dad can’t make it.foster mothers and fathers are available through the courtesy of the Westmount Rotary Club.We urge parents.however.to make a special effort to attend with their own children.Tickets are now available and reservations should be made carly — this to facilitate catering arrangements and because of the limited accommodations.A {otal number of 570 fathers, mothers, sons and daughters attended last year's banquets.Over 300 tiny tots attended last week's Hallowe'en Parties at the Club — nearly all costumed in a variety of costumes which might best be classified as from the ridiculously bizarre to some of the best ever seen at the Unity Boys’ Club.Prizes for besi costumes were won by Lynne Moore, Wayne Buckingham and Hudson Al- leyne. The most comical was won by Melvin Minge, Russell Berthiaume and Susan Warren. For the most original Shawn Molloy, Louis Grimes and Susan Fein (ook top honors.Movies were shown by Herbert Davies, games were conducted by Robert Parker, Crystal Cunningham and John McDonaugh and they were assisted by Christine McGregor, George Joss and Jimmy Roguski.A Hallowe'en Dance was also conducted on behalf of the senior members of the Club. The Corn- mittee in charge were Peter Doherty, Larry Dallas, John O'Driscoll, Michael Dwyer, Donna Brown and Deanne Scanlan.Prizes, refreshments and a novelty program
