a former deputy District Grand Master for Quebec of the Masonic Order, a Shriner and member of the Scottish Rite.He was a golfer at one time, a leading member of the St.George Snowshoe Club, and member of other social and sporting clubs.+ His wife, the former Maud Douglas, of Lachute, died in 1948, and a son and a daughter have predeceased him.But his two other sons, Frank and Cecil, are now in the business, and two other daughters are happily married. They are Helena, whose three children, Bill, Ernest and Babs Chauvin, all served in the Second World War, and Grace, who is Mrs.Alex Muir.Mr.Cousins still feels the loss of his wife. They were married more than 60 years. He recalls .a striking coincidence in the history of Montreal business concerns.Three of the ating in the city were all opened about the same time. These in- | cluded the Cousins business, and thosè of J.J.Joubert and Guaranteed Pure Milk Co., the latter founded by the late George Hogg.Mr.Cousins referred to Mr.Hogg, a one-time Mayor of Westmount, as “one of the finest men this district has ever pro- duced.” Some of the questions were leading and at one time-it was asked that if city council had the prerogative of refusing suggestions or demands made by the association, were not the members wasting their time.Chairman Thomas Atkinson replied that the function of the association was neither to rury the city of Westmount, nor in any way to attempt to circumvent- the ‘action taken by the city council to resolve certain problems. The association ~ he said, served mainly as a sounding board for public opinion.’ Mayor James A.DeLalanne, and City Manager T.J.glughes, both of whom were in attendance, were not called upon to answer spot questions from the floor, but the mayor did volun- ‘teer a few comments regarding One-way streets and traffic regulations. He said that the Increased flow of traffic through Westmount of late, was due in part to the altering of the intersection at Queen Mary Rd., and Cote des Neiges. Then too, more and more motorists are being attracted to the one-way routes of the Cote Road and Westmount Avenue, as a quicker means of getting to and from work.He said that minor changes to these thoroughfares may be warranted as the traffic shakes down to some sort of consistency. One other suggestion worthy of mention was that traffic lights be installed at the intersection of Lansdowne and Sherbrooke, to be operated during rush hours. We all know that signal lights slow traffic down The Christian graces are like perfumes, and the more they are pressed, the sweeter they smell; rivals who are still a little rusty and not ready for their best efforts. It was the Academy's third line that proved the opportunists of the game, whep they cashed in early on two Westmount penalties, with Gerry Dwyer and Mike Carrier finding the scoring range for two fast goals, that put them ‘in front and from here in their was no doubt about the eventual final outcome. The Academy team steadily added ta their lead with goals from Terry Hayes, Jimmy Grant, John Roche and John Farrell, Westmount High proved dangerous on a number of occasions but were unable to finish ,their plays well when in close and when they did found goaler Mike Lunny in good form to snuff out any scoring aspirations, to chalk up his first shut-out of the young season.Coach Andy McGillis was well pleased with his team’s performance on the day but feels they have still a lot of room for improvement if they are to develop into a contender. For Westmount High, it was do nething right and got a bad game out of their system. The winners looked particulariy good in fore checking as time and again they checked the opposition to a standstill.Sport Shorts: St.Leo's return to Bantam school hockey ranks after a few years lapse was just a little short of successful, as they were nipped 2-1 by Catholic High in an ex- °* hibition game played at Verdun Auditorium. The Clarke Avenue youngsters were in the game all the way and battled the Black and White on even terms until late in the game, when a defensive error proved their downfall.Daniel Carrier scored the Ione: goal for the locals, who were outskated but far from outplayed. An improvement in skating will have to be forthcoming, if they expect to figure prominently in the Bantam hockey race.Jules Leblanc, Paul Bouchard, Jean- Paul Therrien and Mike Crea- ghan showed up well for a losing cause. The Bantam Park team, held their initial workout at Verdun Auditorium last week, with a fair turnout in attendance. After sorting out the candidates, the team appeared to have some good forwards but very weak on defence.Phil Drummond will coach this Class hockey will be revived on a larger scale this coming winter, which will cut down somewhat on the competitive teams.A number of the Academy students do not leave which eliminates them from afternoon hockey and restricts them to Saturday morning hockey or class hockey periods.Dow Meet O'Keefe In MHL Friday After four’games in the Moni treal Hockey league, only 32 mine utes in penalties has been marked on the score sheets, and of this, Rochford, of Dow is the bad man with six minutes. The leading goal getters are George James, Dow and Claude Beaupre, O'Keefe with four goals, their total scoring points after two games. The leading scorer is Gerald Gaghon, O'Keefe, with five.points from five assists, Among the leading five scorers, Danny Caduc, Dow and, Bill Chiere, CN Blues also have.four.points.Bobby Bleay, O'Keefe is the EN leading goal minder with a 1.50 average in two games. Two games are scheduled for Friday night at the Verdun Auditorium.Dow will meet O'Keefe in the opener at eight o'clock and Stelco will take on Vickers.Dow will be idle.’ Leading Scorers GP'G A Pts.Pim Gagnon, O'Keefe .2 0 5 5 0 James, Dow .2 404 2° Beaupre, O'Keefe 2 4 0 4 0 Chiara, CN Blues 2 2 2 4 0 Caduc, Dow .2 13 4 0 Standings — go.GP W L D F À Pts.O'Keefe .2 2 0 0133 4 Vickers 110041 2 211088-3 1 01016 GO 20206140 Goalkeepers’ Records .GP GSA SO Aver.Bleau, O'Keefe .2 “3 0 1.50 Murphy, Vickers 1 1 o 1.00 O'Reilly, Dow .2 8, 0 400 Price, Stelco .1 6 0 6.00 Courteau, CNR .2 14.7 70 As dew never falls on a stormy ‘night, so the dews of His grace never come to the restless soul.—A.B.Stimpson ‘ ?[« LUMBER * PLYWOODS e HARDWARE ° PAINTS * WALLBOARDS : © WALL PANELLINGS DO-IT-YOURSELF! ® COFFEE & END TABLE TOPS © [RON apd WOOD LEGS © SMALL SIZE PLYWOOD ® CUT TO SIZE ORDERS -
