Châteauguay River ready to welcome canoeists and kayakers The Canot d\u2019Août is fast approaching.Canoeing and kayaking enthusiasts are expected in great numbers Sunday, August 7, for the seventh annual pastoral excursion on the Châteauguay River.Last year, more than 200 people faced the heat and paddled the day away.Participants have the choice of traveling eight, 16 or 24 kilometers on the Châteauguay River.As in past years, the excursion will begin at 9 a.m.at the Ormstown soccer field.Participants will halt towards 10 a.m.at the Battle-of-the- Châteauguay Canadian national historic site, before reaching the Georgetown Presbyterian church in Très-Saint- Sacrament in time for lunch.Passing the English River, they will set a course for the Léveillé Park in Ste-Martine towards 1:30 p.m.A shuttle will return excursionists to their vehicles in Ormstown and at other stopping points.Participants are asked to bring their own canoes or kayaks.It will cost only $12.50 (meals not included) to register.However, it will be possible to rent boats on-site for $40 per adult.Reduced prices are available for children and family boats.To ensure the smooth running of this two-day of the township\u2019s founding, a small group of residents are producing a bilingual souvenir album to be launched next year.Elaine Duhème, Gerry Leroux, Daniel Soucy and Philippe Leblanc have been working to prepare this book since (when).\u201cTo celebrate this historical event, we want to publish a souvenir album that tells the history of the families of Godmanchester and the surrounding area,\u201d says Duhéme.Part of the volume will trace a historical portrait of the township, from its canonical establishment in 1855 to today.A professional historian will report the great events and outstanding facts of the past, as well as important stages of regional life, based on information from local residents.Photographs from bygone eras will decorate the account.Given the bilingual character of the population, the book will be published in sections in both languages, with approximately 50 pages in French and the same number in English.Another part of the book will be devoted to those families that contributed to building the township and to those now established there.\u201cIt will be a little like a family photo album, with small histories and anecdotes about the families
