inecom- plished in a short time with a good attendance of patrons from both It is truly a country fair with that homey atmosphere that makes you à part of the whole. There is everything that one would want to keep him occupied during the Fair. You can saunter in around 11 am, just as the judging is getting un~- derway, take a look around, then go over to the dining hall and be just in time for the first serving of dinner. The dining hall has had some fixing done to it this year and this should be an improvement.Klectrie light has been added and ix available to any une nceding same, or for power, This is a highlight of the Falr And gets you off to à good start to enjoy all the other features. You wont he bothered by ‘a rowdy midway, but you can play a nice little game of bingo and win yourself a nice prize or two, This is done in between watching the children's races the horse driving and tug- o-war.You have to look over the exhibits which by this time have Help To Board in 2b has mpl Ar SAMA fits been judged and you will see that the exhibitors from Havelock and area have some real fine produce, Havelock has an art of getting sumething new each year and this yer they have obtained a yoke of oxen and a covered wagon from the Saxton Homestead Farm at Brushton. The oxen have been trained from the time they were calves by Kermit Saxton.Mr.Sax- ton as a boy, day-dreamed of having a yoke of oxen and he started to train the Holstein oxen.It proved an interesting and practical hobby as the animals are used in present farming operations, These cattle and the covered wagon have been exhibited this summer at several parades and received fave orable comment and several prizes. These oxen will be at Havelock Fair this Saturday and rides will be available in the covered wagon to anyone, Thus besides all the usual attractions this is one feature that should not be missed.Saturday is a good day for a day's outing, probably the last for this season, sé‘“take advantage of the opportunity and plan to attend Have- lock Fair.Of Trade For Christmas Lighting — Bridge Petition Dropped AH members of the Huntingdon own Council were present at the regular meeting on Tuesday night, except Alderman Picard.Following the reading of the minutes and passing a number of bills, a delegation from the Huntingdon Board of Trade, Messrs, J.McCoy and J.L'Ecuyer wore heard.Mr, McCoy explained that the Board of Trude was intending to do something about ext.street lighting for the Christmas season and asked if the Counell would give some help in the matter. It was the intention to plice colored lights and other de- q corations on the main business section. After a short discussion, the council deelded to grant up to one third of the cost, but not to exceed $666.plus the light hill for three months, The same delegation appeared on behalf of Huntingdon Plaza and asked permission to paint the sidewalk with signs pointing to tue stoves which come under the scheme, Permission was granted.Milk reports taken in July were read, The tax roll was read and the amendments made and it was hom- vlogated with the amendments.A letter was read from the Town Engineer explaining points the council had wanted to know and the projects that might be undertaken Tombstones Sto | to put in required.Complaints were made ahout motorcycles making a noise on the streets in town and racing avound. There were also complaints about cars with improper mufflers. The police committee was asked to take this up with the police along with several other matters of traffic rez- ulation. It was asked that car parking be restricted on Wellington Stæeet at the Fawcett & Grant plant and also on Lorne Avenue, at Leach and Spinners.Alderman Tedue suggested that the snow plow be got in readiness for the coming winter seasom ana not wait until it i8 required. He said that some jobs needed to be done on the plow and these should be done without delay.A petition, signed by a number of property owners was presented to the Council in behalf of the proposed new bridge In Huntingdon. The petitioners asked that further consideration he given and that notice be brought to the Engineers which arouses us greatly.Within the past two weeks or so, two Kranite tombstones have heen removed from Hillside Cemetery at Rockburn and a third one was part- ally dug out.Tt would appear in the latter case that those responsible were disturbed.Tt Is also reported that two stones have also been stolen from the Franklin Cemetery, In the case of the Hillside Ceme- ‘TY.the caretaker noted that the ones were missing, hut thought that they had been taken away for reprir by the owners. On enquiry Of the owners, it was discovered they knew nothing of it.The Cemetory Officials were algo hoti- fied and they knew nothing of the matter. The police were then noti- tied.: This week it was decided to Notify The Gleaner in the hope that a newe item on the matter might bring to light something of value in tracing down the missing tomibstones, Over a period of time The (Heaner has reported vandalism with respect to cemeteries in the area.In these cases, the stones were overturned, or pieces broken off, but not actually removed.Just what the objeet is In stealing the stones is hard to know.It may be with the objeet of refinishing and supplying to some other person at a price, or they may be sold tn builders for use In buildings.A remetery is hardly the place for stich thefts and such nets are scandalous to say the least. It is also reported that the flowers from new burials In the cetnéeteries have been atolen and the racks broken up.Algo the glass cases with artificial flowers in them have heen stolen. It ix hoped that those responsible will soon be found and that caretakers of other cemeteries Keep a sharp wateh for any missing stones or suspicious characters hanging around.NINETY - NINTH YEAR John Dickson ‘Meets English Dairy Queen MONTREAL — A
