general election and returned Gerald Laniel to the Commons by his greatest- ever majority.Laniel, with 17 parliamentary years behind him, collected 25,953 votes.His closest rival, Progressive Conservative Roland Philie, could muster only 7,439, a drop of 2,362 from that of his late predecessor, Laurent Cyr, in the general election of 1974.As had been foreseen, Liberal strength remained untouched in southwestern Quebec with re-election of Hal Herbert in Veaudreuil- Soulanges, Ian Watson in Chateauguay, Paul-Andre Masse in St.Jean and Pierre Deniger in Laprairie.For Laniel, however, it was a return to a different House of Commons than that in which he has been Deputy Speaker.Across the land the swing was to the Progressive Conservatives who will forn.a minority government ge Joe morning with final returns in from British Columbia, Trudeau conceded defeat.He congratulated Clark, said he would lead the Liberals in Opposition.There was obvious joy in Laniel\u2019s party headquarters in Valleyfield as the scope of the Liberal sweep in Quebec became apparent.Later this, joy was tempered with dismay as the Conservatives swept Ontario and went on to majority government status with prairie and Far West returns.\u201cI am amazed and pleased at being returned with such strength,\u201d said Laniel when votes had all been counted.\u201cBut I am saddened at the result in the rest of the country.\u201d Laniel was never threatened.Creditiste Georges Boulanger who was supported by some Parti Quebecois faithful, received 4,313 votes.Scant as this was in relation to the Laniel score, it was still 883 more than in 1974.The three other candidates in the race scarcely figured and their campaigns hardly got off the ground.Gilles Gagne of the New Democratic Party received 1,846 votes, an increase of 401 from 1974; Real Gingras of the Rhinocerous Party increased support for his party by 71 - from 911 to 982; the Quebec nationalist party, the Union Populaire, was TAYLOR of The Gleaner Anyone attending the Orm- stown Fair Horse Show, scheduled to open along with the 65th Exhibition on June 6, will notice that the ring crew falls into three main classifications.First, there are the teenaged boys in their blue \u2018\u2018Orm- stown Ex'' T-shirts, who set up jumps, carry equipment, and in general do what they are told to keep the five-day show moving smoothly.Doing some of the telling and lending a hand with the work are the young to middle- aged men, most of them local farmers taking a few days off from late spring chores.The third classification is one man - Carlyle Dickson, 73- year-old Horse Show Coordinator and former Fair Secretary-manager, who more than any other individual personifies the Orm- stown Fair.While he may not move quite as fast as he used to, Carlyle seems to be just about everywhere in the Arena, the venerable whitewashed building in which most of the horse show events are held.Manning the tape measure, pointing out a faulty angle of a jump, his is the steady influence that puts the finishing touches on one of the Fair's main crowd-pleasers.And year after year, he continues.Occasional rumors of his retirement are heard, but it\u2019s hard to take them seriously.After, all, Carlyle, as a little boy, attended the first-ever Ormstown Fair in 1910 \u201cholding my mother\u2019s hand\u201d as he tandis que son plus proche adversaire, le candidat progressiste- conservateur Roland Philie, n\u2019amassait que 7,439 voix, une baisse de 2,362 voix comparativement à son prédecesseur, Laurent Cyr, huit blessés légers.Mme Edith Coates, âgé de 90 ans.a perdu la vie dans cet accident de la route.Mme Coates était domicilée sur la route 209 à Barrington.Peggy Lee Murray, de Hemmingford, âgée de 27 ans, était au volant d'ufie Datsun '76 au moment de l'accident.L'autre automobile impliquée était conduite par Marion Ste- Marie de St-Antoine Abbé.Ce dernier est âgé de 19 ans.: Le rapport de la seringues, de l'équipement pour la pression sanguine, tubage.équipement intraveineux et de la solution.Deux charettes en acier ont été données par les Dames Auxiliaires, l\u2019une pour la cuisine et l'autre qui sert au département d'urgence comme table pour accessoires 1n- traveineux; à part ces deux-là, une autre fut achetée pour la salle à manger du personnel.Cette année, nous devions remplacer les uniformes pour les étudiantes qui viennent apres la classe pour offrir leur aide aux infirmières \u201cCandy striper\u201d\u2019, donc le matériel ainsi que le coût pour faire ces uniformes a été déboursé par les Dames Auxiliaires et c'est Mme Margaret McIntyre, la personne en charge de notre département de couture et de lingerie qui s'est offert pour exécuter ce travail.Mme McIntyre ainsi que ses volontaires, des personnes de différentes église font un travail merveilleux et grace au dévouement de M.Mcintyre, il n n'y a rien d'utile qui ne sert pas, chaque morceau est utilisé.Je sais que je peux me fier sur elle et les Dames Auxiliaires et c'est pour cette raison que nos fournitures à l'urgence et ailleurs sont toujours prêts.Une table pour traction lombaire fut acheté pour le département de Physiothéraphie ainsi qu'un calculatrice pour la comptabilité.Donc comme vous pouvez le constater, chaque départment de l'hôpital profite de cette organisation d'une façon ou de l'autre.Le Bazar et le Thé de Noel fut encore cette année un grand succès et d'après les dons de nourriture et des articles pour le bazar, nous devons avouer que ce travail démontre vraiement l'ambition de la communauté.La journée des hôpitaux au mois de mai, le thé servi dans l'après-midi comme par le passé aide beaucoup à faire de cette journée un succès, mes félicitations à Ann Blankers paroisse St-Malachie d'Ormstown a décidé de prendre les grands moyens afin de contrôler les feux illégaux.Lors d'une rencontre subséquente, le conseiller Jean-Paul Riendeau présentera un règlement en
