[" » CLASSIFIED ADVTS.IN THE GLEANER GET RESULTS TEL.: 264-5364 Ormstown no on zoning irks neighbor Mayor Jean-Guy Latreille this week expressed disappointment that ratepayers of St.Malachie d’Ormstown turned down zoning plans and said he feared this action might be poor for his aiready- zoned municipality of Franklin.“It must be remembered that the direct route from Montreal to Franklin goes through Orm- stown,'’ said Latreille.‘It would be nice if such a trip could be free of eyesore construction and zoning would have ensured this.” He feared particularly that Route 201 from Ormstown to Franklin might.at its Ormstown end, be the site of construction which fails to meet zoning standards.“This is none of my business and my views are only those of an interested party,” said the Franklin mayor.a pioneer in bringing zoning to The Chateauguay Valley “l am interested in _preserving the agricultural character of the valley everywhere because whatever is done in one municipality- influences adjoining areas.” He foresaw the possibility that without zoning in St.Malachie d'Ormstown motorists from Montreal might have to go through "Tobacco Road’ area to get to Franklin.People who wanted to erect dwellings which wouldn't pass Franklin zoning standards might now seek to erect them in Ormstown parish.Worse than that.however.there might be some industrial development seek to locate in the Ormstown area which would be even more unsightly.less desirable and more damaging to the environment than any substandard dwellings.” he said.“Perhaps the only way zoning will be generally wanted in Orm- stown will be after some undesirable commercial enterprise seeks to enter the area.like the strip mining venture which caused the people of Hemmingford to approve zoning last week.” Working well Latreille admitted his remarks on the failure of zoning to pass in Ormstown were selfish but he noted that since Zoning came into force in Franklin it has worked well. There had been a noticeable recognition that property values in Franklin municipality are now protected.‘Since last April Franklin Municipality has issued more than 90 permits for building or reconstruction.” said Latreille. We have approved the building of more houses or the setting up of more mobile homes-ail conforming tp zoning rules-than we did in the last two years.I should point out,’ he added.‘that this construction occurred all over the municipality and it is difficult to escape the belief that zoning has made our property owners feel more secure.” Nursing director leaves The Barrie Mrs.Joyce Hales, who recently submitted her resignation as Director of Nursing at Ormstown’s Barrie Memorial Hospital, was honored for her dozen years of service to the hospital at a dinner at the Nurses’ Residence on Thursday evening, Nov.25.Nearly 150 members of the hospital and medical This automobile licence number may look like many others but to George Callum of Huntingdon, who is 81 this week, it has special significance. This is his 60th plate and he has saved one of his licence plates for every one of the past G0 vears.FOND MEMORY - is stirred by an old and meticulously- kept account book which Callum prizes. It shows that he bought his first Ford touring car from John Darby on April 15, 1918, for $720.An entry for April 30 of that year shows the purchase of 13 gallons of gas at 38 cents a gallon THOSE WERE THE DAYS - when people went around telling each other it wasn't the initial cost of the car that one should think of but the upkeep. With gas at 38 cents a gallon.Callum who drove to The Gleaner to show his account book, believes that he has the largest individual collection of car licence plates in the province. It could be that antique dealers have a greater number but they are not their own.FASHIONS FOR ALL OCCASIONS We promise you'll be detighted with the friendly service, the quality and choice and the reasonable prices.475 Frontiere Hemmingford Tel: 247-2811 (5y» (Sanholm Brown Patriot 2) 163.160.161.5.Allister MacArthur.Howick.Burnside Melanie 527020 EX.13.662, 551, 4.03 (9y) {Hammonds Masterpiece.159, 160, 160.Robert FE.Ness, Howick.Diamonddale Unerry 15 577339 13,453, 563.4,18 Céy) (Selwood Betty's Commander 1 154.158.156, Alan W.Kyle Hem- mingford.Terrace Bank Misty Leader 566096 EX.13,074, 578, 442 (6y) (Brisklea Clan Leader: 146, 157.151.5 Robert E.Ness, Howick Silver Maple Cotton 557019 V.G.13,587.550, 4,05, tiy» tSelwood Betty's Commander 151.150, 150,5 Archie Roy.Howick.P.Q.Junior { Year Old Class Balquhidder Stereo 58 1912 G.P.14,526, 529, 3.64 (4y-1mo.' tDonholm Welcome Golden Glory 174, 153, 163.5, Archie Roy.Howick.Senior 2 year Old Class Marbrae Kennie 3594657 12,151.493.4.96 (2y-4M0.1 (Selwood Royal Welcome: 185, 179, 182, RB.Mac- Farlane.Howick Cherry Bank Roval Grace 594012 12.417, 522.4.20 (2y-8mo.» ‘Glendowan Anchor's Bomber 175, 177.176, Allister MacArthur.Howick Kelso Star's Mary 596718 G.P 13,141, 482.367 CV lomo.+ «(Meredith Perfection: 182, 160.171.Wm T.MacFarlane.Athelstan.Marbrae Snow White 2, 59 4656 12,930, 513.397, fv 10mo.) ‘Rottenrow White Model 175, 166.170.5.R.B MacFarlane.Howick Lilac Grove Roval Merle 5E 596642 10,554, 435, 4 12.(2y-6M0 1 ‘Rockford Royal 152,151 1515 Allan Wo Kyle.Hemmingford.Junior 2 Year Old Class salquhidder Surprise Party 603462 10,956.450, 411 tly.-Hmo.rAhtialan Jumo* 169, 165.167.Archie Rov.Howick.207, 217.26" 33" * Two Stage & Single Stage models * Big selection 5H P 7HP 8HP 10HP : PUT THE SNOW WHERE * Get started in a hurry with powerful winterized engines * Four intake widths available e Easy electric starting available OUTDOOR POWER EQUIPMENT History was made Nov 8 at Hays Sales Arena.Oak ville.Ont.when Hanover Hill Barb.a Canadian Holstein Friesian cow, sold for the world record price of $235,000 Barb.classified Very Good.sold to a syndicate consisting of Mrs.Dorothy snyder.Westside Farm.Waterloo: Tedesco Bros.Farm, Windsor.and Frank G.Edwards and Sons and Raymond A.Edwards.Indiana.Pa Barb was one of 63 purebred Holsteins to be sold in the Sale of Stars where a total of $3447.600 was grossed.Hanover Hill Barb consigned by Claude Picket of Georgetown was à previous World Record Price holder She sold for 157.000 in 1975 at the Designer Fushion Sale in Syracuse, New York.On May 3, this year when Claude F Picket dispersed his herd.Barb was paired with the Very Good cow Romandale Reflection Christy.and $200,000 was paid by Frank G.Edwards and Sons and Raymond A Edwards for Christy Rarb.daughter of the Excellent and Class Extra sire.Downalane Reflection Emperor, was born Nov 23, 1972.Her dam is the Excellent Gold Medal All American cow.A Johns Lucky Barb.As a two-year old in 365 days, Barb vielded 15.127 pounds of milk, 650 pounds of fat with a 429 per cent test. She was bred June 1976 to the great ARC Reflection Sovereign "Excellent and (lass Extra) The second high priced *50.
d more off With this ad FINANCIAL ARRANGEMENTS AVAILABLE =_ H.D.SALES & SERVICE ATHELSTAN 264-3739 7 IS PERHAPS THE ATTENTION!
