been no recent precedent for a grant of this kind, there is an old one which is very much to the point.It appears that on the occasion of the Lisbon earthquake the British Parliament voted £100,000 for the relief of the sufferers, and at that time a hundred thousand pounds bore a much larger proportion to the revenue of the country than it does now.On the other hand, in those days there was no Mansion House Fund, and the £100,000 voted by Parliament probably formed nearly all that was contributed by this country to assist the sufferers from the Lisbon earthquake.\u2014Liverpool University, is a graduate of the Hebrew Union College, and the University of Cincinnati.He came to this city in September, 1906, since which time he has made himself \u201cpersona grata\u201d with the
