’tis right about wheel.” The Colonel then cried, “8th, right about wheel!” The 8th responded as if on home parade, and thus we faced the strong squadrons in our rear.This incident is vividly impressed upon my mind, but I have never seen a reference to it in any previous account.The enemy remained halted, leaving us to force a passage through their serried ranks.Colonel Shewell ied the way, well seconded by every man, for this last desperate struggle was for dear life and freedom to pass in the direction of the British lines.The Russian squadrons, quite four hundred strong, had ample time to meet our rush with force enough to bear us down and make all prisoners.To our amazement, their right fell back, and giving way, assisted our design.Some passed without collision; only a few were mingled in the mass, and these fought clear in quicker time than one can tell it.TI bore well to the left, quite losing touch with the Sth.Thus separated from all aid, lancers pursued me up the valley; but I kept them on my right and rear, my sword arm free to sweep around.With many a feint at cut and thrust (for I feared to check the gallant grey), I kept them at arm’s length, foiled their attempts to get upon my left, where they might strike across my bridlehand, and the grey mare gradually drew ahead.With what delight I came in sight of our brave “Heavies” may well be understood; for now the Russian lancers turned about and rode away, disappearing down the vale.Balls from the causeway ridge raised up the dust around the grey mare’s hoofs, but happily their force was spent.The first person I encountered gs I rode in was a sergeant of the 13th Light Dragoons.He had been down the valley, and with his horse returned without a scratch.He rode up to me, and without a word exchanged, he grasped my hand, mov- NN.A A Nee rr “ar © ed by the peril we had escaped and shared.I judged his feelings by my own.I made my way to where our camp had been, and was assisted to dismount, for my right leg was now quite stiff, though blood had long since ceased to flow.I contrived to slip in front of the grey mare that had done me such great service, and I kissed her on the nose, for to her I owed my life.One cannot leave the “Valley of death” without acknowledging the debt of gratitude due from the Light Brigade to the famed Chasseurs d’Afrique, who without hesitation sprang upon the enemy posted on the Fedioukine (The Mattress That's | Always Ventilated.- ‘ 31] TE SLIT wes sat ii UT ye The Marshall Sanitary is the only mattress made that has complete interior ventilation.The construction is such that the slightest move of the occupant forces a current of air through the mattress.No matter what position you assume, the Marshall Mattress yields luxuriously to every line and curve of the body.Test the merits of the Marshall Sanitary Mattress yourself for a month, and if it’s not the most comfortable mattress you've ever slept on, we'll refund your money and take the mattress back.— Price $25.The Marshall Sanitary Mattress Co., Ltd., Manufacturers, Factories in Toronto, Chicago, and London, Eng.Renaud, King & Patterson, Limited, Exclusive Agents for Montreal, \\ Cor.St.Catherine & Guy Sts.J PERFECT BUST Form Sent Free Madam Thora’s French Corsine System of Bust Development is a simple home treatment and is guaranteed to enlarge the bust six inches;
