he tried to work through the still very raw emotions surrounding his loss.Set You Free, Allan\u2019s latest release features 12 tracks, many of which he co- wrote.His music, given the hardships he went through, is often really intense.This new album offers a lot of emotion, but also seems to showcase a lighter side of his personality.With the release of his first single, \u201cEvery Storm (Runs Out of Rain)\u201d climbing up the charts, there has been much talk and anticipation surrounding this latest project.Gary Allan took a number of new steps during the recording process by playing lead guitar on a number of tracks, writing more of his own material, using a handful of new co-writers and taking the producer's seat.As a result, he came up with the most G= Allan has sold more than 6 optimistic album of his career, one that acknowledges the hardships of the past but also shows that the healing process is well on its way.The artist has been making music for a long time.Through the pain in his personal life and the ups and downs in his career his music was always honest and truthful.The fact is, if Gary Allan is singing it, you're going to feel it, and this album is no different.This new collection is Allan\u2019s ninth studio album.The 45-year-old California native sings on \u201cEvery Storm (Runs Out Of Rain),\u201d \u201cWe all have thorns,\u201d and in his case, accepting them seems to be a great therapy.After listening to the album once there is no doubt about the quality of his work.The album kicks off with a song that clearly is meant to grab your attention and it does just that.\u201cTough Goodbye\u201d gives you what you have already come to expect and love from him.It has his signature sound with just the right amount of polish and raw roughness.With his smoky rasp, he sings, won't find anyone better/I can\u2019t ep running forever.\u201d It makes it hard to ignore the connection with his haunting past.His voice remains one of music\u2019s most complex, seemingly able to convey vulnerabilities through a life of bruises.He sounds the best he has in years on Set You Free, as if his coming to terms gave him new confidence as well.On the pounding Honky Tonk of \u201cBones\u201d or the old school-inspired, \u201cDrop,\u201d Allan's vocals shared between aggressive and reserved is exciting and fresh.\u201cDrop\u201d is absolutely outstanding with its sultry lyrics, finger-snapping melody and Allan\u2019s smooth vocals.On the island feel \u201cNo Worries,\u201d his melancholic delivery falls short of the song\u2019s worry-free style.\u201cSand In My Teasdale 819- 570-2094 Soul,\u201d is a powerful but confused tale that has nothing to do with the breezy beach song that we hear on the radio lately.Set You Free keeps its heaviest songs up front before growing lighter.There's the excellent driving song, \u201cPieces,\u201d about the fact that who we are and what we offer is based on our own experience.The tormented, \u201cIt Ain't the Whiskey,\u201d and the soulful, \u201cHungover Heart,\u201d let everyone know that the pain is still there.This album comes as a story.Each song carries a part of that story about a man who was enduring pain for a long time but is slowly healing and seeing life with a new and fresh perspective.\u201cGood As New\u201d and \u201cOne More Time\u201d are also songs that really cement this album and make it what it is.Hope for new beginnings runs through the project, most notably on the album closer, \u201cGood As New.\u201d Introspective guitars lead into an almost dramatic, string-filled chorus that literally shouts out, \u201cThere might be hope after all.\u201d Gary Allan sings \u201cYou put the spark back into my eyes,\u201d and that sounds positive.This album shows the singer keeps growing as an artist.The collection offers an array of emotions and Gary Allan is more than convincing.It is clear that Gary Allan is one of the most genuine artists in today\u2019s country music.American Idol American Idol really has a lot to do with country music than you think.Carrie Underwood, Kellie Pickler, Lauren Alaina, Scotty McCreery, just to name a few, got their chances at stardom through this popular show.That and Keith Urban taking a turn in the judge\u2019s chair shows country music has made a heavy mark on American Idol.With the show that premiered last week, we have already seen some country singers laying their voices on the line for the judges and all getting their ticket to Hollywood.It looks like country music will have some good representation in season 12.That is truly what keeps me watching.We saw the 17-year-old New Jersey native Sarah Restuccio showing her country chops with Carrie Underwood\u2019s \u201cMama\u2019s Song.\u201d Tennessee's own 17-year- old Mackenzie Wasner also surprised the judges with her skilful rendition of Vince Gill's \u201cWhenever You Come Around.\u201d It seems talent runs in the family.Mackenzie's father is Pete Wasner, who is a songwriter and longtime keyboard player for country music icon Vince Gill.Which doesn\u2019t mean that she will get special favour.If you remember Jim Carey's daughter last year, the name did- n\u2019t save her from going home.There also was 17-year-old Brandy Neelly from Louisville, Kentucky, who showed that you simply can\u2019t go wrong with a country classic.Her amazing take on Hank Williams Sr.\u2019s \u201cYour Cheatin\u2019 Heart\u201d had the judges captivated.Her strong voice and pure country sound will definitely be one to watch in
