consequence r.f a lour of Major General Scott. The Commercial Advertiser, however, merely »ays, Major General Scott, Commander in Chief of tho Army, has proceeded to the Niagara frontier, on a tour of official observation. It has been intimated in «ime quarters that he may traverse tiro frontier Wcstwardly, and back Kastuardly to the Aroostook country. From the Toronto Colonist we learn that the Committee of the Board of Trade of tliat city have had under tiroir consideration the proposed nlan of a Bank of Issue ; but that they dcferied, until the Bill is before them in detail, addressing the* Legislature, or taking any action on tiro subject, ns a body. The same paper contradict* a report that Mr.Roe, of Nfwrnnrkel, was to become a Candidate for the representation of the Fourth Riding of York : and adds- “ws arc informed that Dr.Baldwin is to make way for Mr.Lafontaine.” The Colonist says that this move “ will meet with opposition from several influential voters, who have always acted with the Reform parly.” 8o wo should think, unless they li.ve lost all ngard fora oha-raclct for loyalty. But, after all, some doubts exist that Mr.Lafontaine i* a consenting party to this scheme.Since tiro above was written we learned from the following paragraph in the Kingston Correspondence of tho Old Quebec Gazette that Mr.Lafontaine is not unwilling to appear once mote as a “ public character— *• Mr.Irofnntaine, of Montreal, airived this evening ftom Montreal on his way to the election in Ihe Fourth Riding ofToronto, one of the places for which the Hon.Mr.Baldwin was returned.” “ The Governor ha* fixed Mr.Lafontaine’.1! election for the 20th September, before which time it is thought tho House will he prorogued.” We can hardly keep pace with the Legislative documents tliat come pouting in upon us by every day’s mail.In this day’s Mercury uro insert, the Hank Bill, the Loan Bill, the Fourth Report of the Finance Committee, a petition complaining of the charter of the British North American Bank, and a series of resolutions to he pro; osed by Mr.Merritt.For the last mentioned five we arc indebted to the Old Quebec Gazette, tiro conductors uf which were kind enough to lend us the types. The importance of ihtsc documents will ensure them an attentive perusal without further reference to them on our part.We believe we have hitherto omitted to mention that the result of the Huron Election enquiry was in favour of Dr.Dunlop who has taken his seat in the House o*f Assembly. He displaces Captain Strachar, the sitting member. The Great Western.—A Boston paper ha* heen informed by passengers who came out in the Columbia that the Great Western would on her next voyage to New Yoikcome via Halifax, N.S.The New York Commercial Advertise, however, states that the Agents of the steamship in that city have received no information of Mich a course being contemplated.Yesterday, l»t v»*r> little notice is taken of the accident, and it is chronicled in small type. While the steamer Louisiana was on her voyage from New Orleans, the star-hoard boiler burst, blowing every thing before it to n heavy hank of wood in the forecastle.Three of the crew were drowned, and six scalded, of whom two soon died. There were a number of U.S.troops on hoard, and it is stated that \\vn, - - (*s
