this week.Dunn & Lemon ship, per Grand Trunk for Montreal, 250 head, one of the finest lots of cattle shipped from here: having been bought principally at the Guelph Fair, and raised by the best stockbreeders in the county of Wellington.Me Lellan & Rogers ship 240 head ; other shippers send various numbers.Mr.Corby, of Belleville, ships 350 head from Montreal on the 20th, and it is mentioned in connection with this shipment that they will go by a steamer of the Ross Line to London, at £4 10s per head. The Guelph cattle fair was a great success yesterday good cattle going off sharp at $5 per 100 lbs.\u2014Gfo&e, Halifax, N./S'., May 11.The Newfoundland sea! fishery for 1879 is calculated by a local paper as a fair average catch. The number of seals taken will reach very nearly 500,000, while the proportion of old seals brought home is greater than usual.Against this, however, we have a decrease in the value of seal oil; and consequent lessening of profit to crews.Indeed, neither merchant nor man will add very much to his annual earning by the Spring\u2019s work, although n® one can complain respecting the general success.Had the prices of former years been maintained the result would|5have been most satisfactory, but under present circumstances the value of the good catch is materially prejudiced by the lessened price. It may be noted in this connection that, in view of the favourable weather that has been experienced during Spring, it seems strange that nothing has been done in the cod fishery.Every day we hear that there is plenty of fish outside, but no fishermen use any exertion to get it.That from five to ten quintals per boat per week might now be had is, we believe, within the truth, yet we question if there are yet five boats on the ground.CORN
