[" HALXj to let.TO LET, The 'V*\u2019y large Hall over the ^St.Ana\u2019s Market, suitable for J Ï Wholesale business 9J.Round amounts of gold drafts on New York were placed at } iS> J premium.The gold clique at New York have evidently abandoned the idea of advancing the premium to the figure, which they at first contemplated.The withdrawal of one of the principal members of the combination and the large arrivals of gold from England and elsewhere, doubtless forced the clique to allow things take there natural course.The market to-day opened at 114J and steadily declined until 114J was touched towards the close of the day\u2019s business.Sterling Exchange opened at 4.82J, but advanced to 4.83J in consequence of the decline in the Gold premium.Speculative shares were stronger to-day with an upward tendency.Mail, Telegraph, Erie and Union Pacific' led in point of activity, the operations in these linés being on a very extensive scale.The first two showed an advance at the close of about 1 per cent on the opening quotations.The sales of the day were distributed as follows : Pacific Mail, 50,000 ; 106$ could be obtained for the former and 114$ for the latter.Toronto was rather weaker at 189.Jacques Cartier was offered at 97 without finding buyers, the highest bid being 96.For 9 shares Merchants 113$ was accepted.Nationale would bring 116$, and Union 101.Royal Canadian was quiet hut steady at 96$ ; with buvers at 96.Commerce was firm at 133 ; 132$ was bid without inducing holders to sell.Metropolitan could he purchased at 99$, Hamilton at 96$, and Maritime at 86.Exchange was firm at 104; buyers advanced their price to 103$ without leading to transactions.Montreal Telegraph was scarcely so strong, the quotation for sellers being 170 ; 169 would be paid.Gas tvas $ per cent higher at 133$ ; buyers views were 1 per cent below that rale.Canada Cotton Monnfactaring Company was quoted at 40, and Graphic at 27.Montreal Buiiding Association's stock was nominal at 118, and Dominion stock at 102.At the Afternoon Board the market was more active than in the morning, but still the amount of business transacted was comparatively light.Bank of Montreal was stronger ;
