—“Among the 4,833,239 people of Canada at the time of the last Dominion census, there were 1,992,017 Roman Catholics.Out of every five people in this country two are of the latter denomination.Leaving out those who do not profess any religion, Indians who are still Pagans, Jews aud others who belong to non Christian denominations, there are not in Canada a great many more Protestants than Catholics.In this fact, taken in connection with the fact that the Roman Catholics, wherever a religious issue is involved, act with more solidarity in politics than Protestants do, lies the best means of estimating what is likely to come now of the Manitoba School question.The Dominion Government wili very likely offer remedial legislation.The majority of the politicians will consider the question in tlie light of its bearing on party Thus they will argue something like this: — ‘If our party does not offer the Roman Catholic minority in Manitoba some sort of com- Eensation, the Roman Catholic people of the •ominion, who are apparently all stirred up on this subject and who will act pretty unitedly upon it, will mass their votes against us.That means two-fifths of the country antagonized solidly.To them will stick, under any circumstances, a large proportion of the Protestants belonging to the party ordinarily opposed to our own.Thus we will be defeated unless we conciliate the Roman Catholic feeling.’ This inward com miuiiog with themselves of many politicians will apply whether they be Conservatives or Liberals and they will be guided accordingly.” Plenty of Chance at Home.“What do you hear from Hiram?” said Mrs.Sunup.“How’s he doin at college?” “I ain’t heard nothin direct,” was the reply, “but it come ter me in a roundabout sort way thet he is sow in a good deal of wild oats.” “What air ye goin ter do “Ifcv ’im come home.I wrote ‘im to-day thet ef he was so dead sot on agriculture he might ez well stick to the farm.”—Detroit Ficc I'res-i.Wdrm Cm Pitcher’s Casferit Don’t worry.Don’t run iu debt.Don’t trifle with your health.Don’t try experiments w.th medicines.Don't wasto time and money cn worthless comitoundg.Don’t be persuaded to take a substitute for Ayer’s Sarsaparilla.It is the best of blood-purifier?tu,tb,sat&w Sheetings—Horrockse’s aud other celebrated makes.For cribs, 23c.now 18£c.For single beds, 24c.*now 19c , 36c.now 29c., 45c.now 30c.For double beds, 36c.now 29c., 48c.now 39c., 00c.now 48c., 72c.now 5So.Pillow Cottons—English Goods.40 inches, 15o.now 12c., 18c.now HJc., 24c.now 19c.42 inches, 17c.now 14c., 25c.now 20o.45 inches, 24c.for 19c.50 inches, 27c.for 22c.Quilts —For cribs, 53c.now 44c., 78c.now 02c.Honey comb fringed, for single beds, 88c.now 71c., $1.00 now 80c., $1.22 now?98c.For double beds, $1 48 now $1.19, $1.95 now $1.56.Toilet Quilts—Single beds, $1.78 now $1.43.For double beds, $2 20 now $1.76, $2.68 now $2.15, $2.98 now $2.39, $3.95 reduced to $3 15.Blankets — All reduced.$3.78 now $3.04, $4.00 now $3.20, $7.00 now $3.60.English make.Table Damask — Every piece reduced, 68c.now 55c., 88c.now 71c., $1.22 now 98c., $1.38 now $1.11, $1.65 now $1.32.Extra wide.Half Bleached Damask-35c.28o., 45c.now 36c.Towels—Every kind reduced.Kitchen, lOJc.now 8Jc., 13o.now 10Jo., 15c.now 12c.Bed-room Towels — Linen Huck.12c.now 10c., 15c.now 120., 19c.now 15c., 24c.now 19c., 33c.now 27c.Bath Towels—Turkish, 20c.now 16c., 24c.now 19c., 29c.now 23c., 43c.now 38c., 58c.now 47c., 78c.now 62c.Qlass Towels—Red check, 13c.nofr lO&c., 15c.now 12c., and Extra fine, 22c» now 18c.Doylies—Square, round and oval, all re duced.10c.now Sc., 13c.now 10£c., 13c.now 12c. » .Napkins—All reduced.Breakfast and dinner sizes, 10c.now 8c., 13c.now lOJc.15c.now 12c., 18c.now 13c., 24c.now 19c.35c.now 28c.Toilet Covers—All reduced.20c.now 16c , 24c.now 19c., 38c.now 31c., 40c.now 32c., 52c.now 42c.Crashes—Quality at 8^c.now 7c., 10c.now 8c., 13c.now 10£c., and Extra quality aud width, 15c.now 12c.Kitchen Linens—23 inches, 11c.now 9c., 13c.now lO^c.32 inches, 18c.now 14Jc.Cash mere Dresses—For girls.Eng lish make.Mother Hubbard style, all at half-price.These are great bargains ;
