the suit which Madeline Vinton Pollard has brought against him, to determine whether he shall pay her $50,000 for alleged seduction and breach of promise.Col.Breckenridge stands charged by Miss Pollard with having accomplished her rniu when she was a school girl of 17 and he a distinguished public man near the half century mark, with being the father of several children born to her and with making and breaking a promise to marry her.The alleged contract of an engagement is claimed by Miss Pollard lo be made shortly after the death of defendant's wife and broken less than a year later, when he married Miss Louisa Wiog, of St.Louis.On the other hand Colonel Breckenridge, in his answer to Miss Pollard\u2019s charges, denies that he at any time or place attempted to take advantage of the youth and inexperience of the plaintiff or that he seduced her.He also denies that there was at any time any engagement, contract or understanding of marriage between them.Hon.Jere Wilson, one of the ablest and best known lawyers of the country, is the principal counsel for the plaintiff.Beside him sat Calderon Carlisle, who stands high at the bar and was counsel for the British Government in the Behring Sea case in the United States Supreme Court.Col.Enoch Tatten, the principal attorney for Col.Breckenridge, is ill in Florida and will not be back in Washington for a week, but Phil.Thomson, who is one of Col.Breckenridge\u2019s colleagues from Kentucky in the House, was here to look after the interest of his client.Judge Wilson and Mr.Carlisle were the first actors in the case to appear.Col.Breckenridge entered the Court room accompanied by ex Congressman Benj.Butter-worth.The jury has been sworn in in the Pollard-Breekenridgc case and at 10.55 the Court adjourned
