Titre :
The Quebec chronicle
La ligne éditoriale du journal est définie comme suit : « [.] in the management of The Morning Chronicle we shall, therefore, begin by simply declaring, that, as we glory in our connexion with the British Empire, it will be our undeviating aim and unremitting endeavour, to create and foster a cordial attachment to those time-honoured institutions which have made her so illustrious in the annals of the world ». (May 18, 1847, p. 2)

[Traduction]
Voici les différents titres que le Quebec Chronicle-Telegraph a connus depuis ses débuts : Disponibles en ligne : The Morning Chronicle (Jan. 1847 - Nov. 1850) The Morning Chronicle and Commercial and Shipping, 1850-1888 The Morning Chronicle (Feb. 1888 - May 1888) The Quebec Morning Chronicle, 1888-1898 The Quebec Chronicle, 1898-1924 Non disponible en ligne : The Chronicle Telegraph (1925-1934) The Québec Chronicle-Telegraph (1934 à ce jour)

YEARS AGO TODAY Bonaparte As Printer.A letter from Italy contains the following interesting passage concerning the doings of Napoleon's Empire of Elba: Napoleon is forming a printing establishment at FEiba. The types, presses, etc.have been ordered from the adjacent continent. It is believed that in addition to the memoirs of his life, which wiil be printed there, he intends to publish a Court Gazette. As a measure of State, of policy, or of finance, the plan is strongly recommended. The Court Gazette of Elba will throw dignity on that petty sov- ereignity as it will be eagerly sought after, its circulation will add to the revenue, and if not prohibited in a foreign State, it will keep up the hopes of the disaffected in France, snd perhaps prove the ripening germ of another revolution.A interest taken in the reports concerning this great mysterious inland sea.Mr.Arthur Perry, of the New York Geographical Society, a descendant of the great navigator, wrote to Sir James LeMoine, of Spencer Grange, saying that report of the great lake had reached him, but that it seemed increditable that a body of water of such vast extent.only some four hundred miles from civilization, should have remained so long à secret to the outer world: if true, however, it would seem that the dscovery would have very important results. In reply to Mr.Perry, Sir James LeMoine states that Lake Mistassini was really discovered more than 200 years ago.viz.: in 1672, and noted in the diary of the heroic mis- sionaty explorer Father Charles Albanel.Although he does not gve the length or breaith of this great lake.he comptites its extent by sayng, it is s0 vast that it would take twenty days of fine weather to go round it.If one allowed 36 miles for a day's travel, thic would give a circumference of 720 mil-s.He met with 400 portages and waterfalls, and calculates that in gning and coming he travelled A0 leagues, the climate is halmy.and the waters swarming with fish. The diaary of the Rev.Father Albanel was published in Relations des Jesuites.and covers fourteen pages.Sir James LeMoine strongly, recommends Mr.Perry to read Fa-: ther Albanel's Journal.and “you willi presented tonight for the first time in Quebec by Del S.Lawrence and a strong company, is a very human drama of Alaska that a good many of our readers already know.It would seem superfluous to re- | hearse here the story of “The Silver Horde" for cveryone has read Mr.Beach's very exceilent novel.Suffice it to say it is the only real tale of “The Last West.” the frontier now gone.It hreathes the freedom of the Alaskan plains, it brims with the virility of the life of that wild region.and yet it has the humanness oi real men and women who show their genuine qualities under circumstances such as these. It was written while Mr.Beach was full of the memories of six years under Arctic skies, when his vigor of the early twenties was at its best, and before any other plans and plots had entered his brain to confuse or vitiate his splendid ability. In dramatizing it he has the expert services of Fugene Presbery and the result is a play as atmospheric and virile as is the book. The combination of novel, drama and company is ideal.“The Silver Horde” will be repeated tomorrow night, Saturday afternoon and night at the Auditorium. The prices are $0 cents, 78 cents
