Titre :
The Quebec chronicle
La ligne éditoriale du journal est définie comme suit : « [.] in the management of The Morning Chronicle we shall, therefore, begin by simply declaring, that, as we glory in our connexion with the British Empire, it will be our undeviating aim and unremitting endeavour, to create and foster a cordial attachment to those time-honoured institutions which have made her so illustrious in the annals of the world ». (May 18, 1847, p. 2)

[Traduction]
Voici les différents titres que le Quebec Chronicle-Telegraph a connus depuis ses débuts : Disponibles en ligne : The Morning Chronicle (Jan. 1847 - Nov. 1850) The Morning Chronicle and Commercial and Shipping, 1850-1888 The Morning Chronicle (Feb. 1888 - May 1888) The Quebec Morning Chronicle, 1888-1898 The Quebec Chronicle, 1898-1924 Non disponible en ligne : The Chronicle Telegraph (1925-1934) The Québec Chronicle-Telegraph (1934 à ce jour)

HASN'T VIOLATED SHERMAN ACT, ————— Washington, Feb.3—Tor the fret time the Supreme Court cf the United States today held in effect in che “shoe machinery trust” case that the Sherman Anti-Trust law does not forbid the mere combining of non-com- petitors in an industry.Solicitor General Bullitt, for the Government, had contended that if the combination brought into one hand an “undue proportion” of the trade it was forbidden by the Anti-Trust law.“The disintegration aimed at by the statue does not extend to reducing all manufacture to isolated units of the lowest degree” declared < Justice Holmes, in announcing the wapnim- ong decisions of the court tht the mere organization of the United Machinery Company by the hea f several non-comperting groups of A manufacturers had not been a viola ; law.om of he AT.rr MUST BE AN “INTENT” The justice continued to say that it is as lawfui for one corporation te make “every part” of a steam engine and to put the machina togeti:er as it would be for ome to make the boilers and anotker to make the wheels. In explanation of this concise statement of law, he referrsd te the court's re- cert Minnesota creamery decision, and older Swift & Ce.decision, in which it was held that an “intent” is necessary as an element of attempting to monopolize, The bringing of non-competing branches of a trade into just such a position alone by means of à corporationhe said, in sub- sance, did not furnish sufficieat “intent” to raise the conduct to the dig- uity of an attempt to monopolize.Suit Will Go On.Despite today’s decision, officials of the Department of Justice declared that the United Shoe Machinery Company could be prosecited for the alleged criminal violation of the Sherman law under the one remaining count of the indi.tments returned against the company, the validity of which was sustained by the lower court. That count, which was not before the Suprem: Court.charged in effect that the company was monopolizing the industry bv combination, by tying the various shoe machines together, hut the destruction of competition, and by the acquisition of comipetitars’ business, Officials vig- vrousty maintained that the decision did not affect the Government's case on this count The strongest feature of the Goro ernment's effort to show an unlawfut combination in restraint of trade, said Solicitor General Rullitt, was the “tying” clause of the agreements by which it is alleged that the company sought to compel shue manufacturers to buy machines from it and none other. That question.he declared, was not consideed by the court he- cause the lower court had interpreted the indictments involved in today's
