Titre :
The Quebec chronicle
La ligne éditoriale du journal est définie comme suit : « [.] in the management of The Morning Chronicle we shall, therefore, begin by simply declaring, that, as we glory in our connexion with the British Empire, it will be our undeviating aim and unremitting endeavour, to create and foster a cordial attachment to those time-honoured institutions which have made her so illustrious in the annals of the world ». (May 18, 1847, p. 2)

[Traduction]
Voici les différents titres que le Quebec Chronicle-Telegraph a connus depuis ses débuts : Disponibles en ligne : The Morning Chronicle (Jan. 1847 - Nov. 1850) The Morning Chronicle and Commercial and Shipping, 1850-1888 The Morning Chronicle (Feb. 1888 - May 1888) The Quebec Morning Chronicle, 1888-1898 The Quebec Chronicle, 1898-1924 Non disponible en ligne : The Chronicle Telegraph (1925-1934) The Québec Chronicle-Telegraph (1934 à ce jour)

whale civilied world may be justly | proud, thers has come a period of calmer reflection, and, with it accompanying skepticism.| For this wkep- Tieixm the published notices of the Cook expedition must be held in part responsible ; it was said to have \"originated in the sudden determination to make a dash for the Pole hy ity of a New York millionaire in a trip to the aub-Aretic regions, and without any of the previous preparation which is regarded an necessary in such expeditions, and without.so fur ne was known, any of the neces- snry scientific instruments.Of course the expedition may have heer care fully devised and planned for, but this was not the color to it originally given, and the assumption of an impromptu dash for the Pole is calculated to create a certain amount : of suspicion as to its subsequent sue | CSE, It is also not reassuring to learn that there ic no qualified witness to corroborate Dr.Cook's account. The \"only white man who might be supposed to have some scientific - Imovleige waa left behind, and Dr.Cook's ' companions were Faquimaux. It ia true: that Dr.Cook says his notes and observations will triumphantly prove \"pie claim, but he also says that he expects on his return to find that it in objected that those notes and nb- rervations could easily have been ma- | nufactured, and, in point of fact, this ix what is asserted to have been possible.Without at all impugnimg the bona fides of Dr.Cook it may be said that under the prusent circumstances his record sannot be allowed to stand, any more than that of any athlete whose achievements are not officially witnessed and testified to.He may may have believed that he has done #0, hut we have no testimony to the fact beyond hin own assertions and observations, which may admittedly have been faked.A DUST LAYER.Some short time ago we called attention to the interest which the ques tion of dust laying was awakening in Ottawa, Toronto and other cities, an interest which has been intensified by [ the increasing use of automobiles.A \u2018series of valuable experiments has | been recently carried on in England at Ashford, Middslesex, which serve to demonstrate the possibilities of cal- { cium chloride as a dust layer, and .thergby overcoming ome of the groat- * ent objections to swiftly moving, self.!
