Halifax, N.S., Jan.21.\u2014A warrant is outfor an I, C.B.official at Windsor, but though the officers have been searching for a week the man has not bean located.The charge in the warrant fs attempting to steel railway eleepers and ing Governmeht work, and the information was laid by Inspector Stewart, of the IL O.R., whose business is looking after tise purchased for the railway.The offence that is charged is unique.Tiss are bought by the I.C.R.which are accepted and paid for after Inspeoior Stewart puts his stamp on them.\u2018This he does in à mark Placed on the end of the tie.It is charged that the official who is wanted sawed a thin edge off the end of the ties, thus removing the Government mark and that he then sold, or tried to sell,.the ties to other parties.The end wers sawn from about 600 ties and negotiations were afloat for their sale, but it does not appear that any were actually removed from the railway yards.It is on this account that the warrant read, \u201cattempting to steal,\u201d instead of stealing.The war rant was issued last Saturday, but the I C.R.detectives up to to-night have not located their mau.On the Mon: day before the issuance of present at both morning and afternoon sessions.At the mo.aing nes- sion Mr.Laurent Darveau, of the Levie branch of the B.N.A.Bank, was recalled and explained that the two gheques signed Atkinson and re lerred to on Wednesday last, were made on Caises d'Economie blanks and bad been in tbe possession of the B.N.A.Bank for nearly two years.First of all these cheques were set for the eame amount.T| were origin- slly made out for $300 and increased to $1,400.Atkinson occasionally paid amounts on these cheques and as a rule the amount of these cheques averaged between $1,100 and 81,200.The first time these cheques were handed to the B.N.A.Bank ty were made out on Caisse d'Economie blanks.Mr.Lachance, on behalf of the Crown, asked why thess cheques wera kept in the bank and after some hesitation witness stated that tl wero not entirely Atkinson's and Mansgur i y owed part of them, as the former had advanceid him money.Asked what amount was advanced, witness replied that he could not be precise, but it was about $1,800.Witness wae also asked who had given orders to present these cheques to the Caisse d\u2019Economis in December and replied that he did not think that anybody had given such orders.but as soon as the inspector came to the bank, the cheques had to be re turned to the Caisse d'Economie.The inspector geasrally came around twice a yesr, but in December last two years had expired before the inspector came around.When witness sent the cheques to the Caisse d'Economie he honed to Atkinson about the le alophonsd to Mr Robin \"ay al to Mr.taille at the Caisse d'Economie.He did not know what became of theses cheques and all he knew was that they were honored by means of cheques drawn upon La Banque Nationale.Witness could not say what partnership exist.led
