Titre :
The Quebec chronicle
La ligne éditoriale du journal est définie comme suit : « [.] in the management of The Morning Chronicle we shall, therefore, begin by simply declaring, that, as we glory in our connexion with the British Empire, it will be our undeviating aim and unremitting endeavour, to create and foster a cordial attachment to those time-honoured institutions which have made her so illustrious in the annals of the world ». (May 18, 1847, p. 2)

[Traduction]
Il paraît toujours aujourd'hui. and, lastly, as engines of warfare themselves.General Otter says that the owners of the cars would in the proposed corps never be required to take them off the regular roads, except perhaps in time of war. There would also be a regular system of remuneration for the use of the cars in the same way that the members of the cavalry are paid for their horses. The General had an opportunity of witnessing the manouevres of the British motor corps last summer, and was much impressed with the possibilities of auch a corps as en aid to the regular service. He says that the owners of motor cycles also occasionally did remarkable services in carrying despatches from place to place.A MOTHER'S CRATITUDE- Mrs.V.Cheoret, of St.Benoit, Que, writes as follows: “It is with feelings of the deepest gratitude that | Twrite to tell you what Baby's Own Tablets have done for my bahy. When I began giving him the Tablets he was x0 thin and wasted that he looked like a skeleton. His digestion was poor; we are a deal too modest to intrude ourselves upon the attention of strangers ; not that we are not Sonscious that we thoroughly deserve that attention, but because—well !—because. It may be urged that the time has not yet arrived for the tourist this year ; that the weather, so far, in- stend, of being the weather that, might be rensombly expected at this scason has rather .been thet of the days when the annual mivratory hordes of sight-scers and pleasure seekers turn to the thoughts of home end coalfires, and thers was no sign literally of any great elevation of the temperature. What ia the use of chanting the beauties of scevery, the sights and traditional glories of the city when the weather resembles that ol the Westmoreland hills as laid down by a native to a stranger who enquired if it aways roined there, the answer being, ‘Naw, Bir, sometimes it snaws ?* What is the use of teiking hunting and fishing when it is hard enough to keep at a lukewarm temperature in-doors ?The season is backward, as is evinced by the fate of the tulip bulbs which were planted in the beds rouud the City Hall aver a month ago, and which now have to be dug up as the only means of getting them to put their noses out of the ground. All that is wiry true, but the migratory instinct is not de- perdent on climatic conditions; it comes, like tie douleureux, at certain well defined times, und the only way in which unfavorable weather affects it, is da give à longer time for eon- sideration, and, perhaps ultimately change its decision.“ Canada,” said the Monetery Times of the lst instart, “is the em tre of commercial interest, Every town and city possesses itn peculiar attractions.Advertising those must bring results.Success depends on how the subject is approached. The amart, business like man can do as much publioty work with a hun dred dolints as anotixir less active gentleman could do with a thousand.Banks once thought it unnecessary to tell the publio of their mission in financial spheres. There was a time when towns and cities strove not for industries and population. But with an «ra of competition in all things, end between towns and cities in per- ticular, municipalities have entered the everlasting race, the survival of the frttest—and it pays to advertise your fitness.” Oue oonfrere very wisely advises Liqueur des Peres Chartreux The Chartroux Fathere' Liqueur.Nannfsctured at ) Tarragona (x pain) i After your Meal take a ging of this delicious Tiqueuz and you will he an nos perfect di- Beware of Sabetitutee.Bee that Io 1 the baitle, nf which we give simile here.UP D.MASSON à CO, | Sole Agen's, MONTREAL and TORONTO.puvii-don.e ‘ ng another.Select the best one, then stand by him.Do not delay, but consult him ia time when you ase sick., Ask his opinion of Ayer’s Cherry Pectoral for coughs and colds.use it or not, just as he says.have the formalise ofall sur 4 DO seerets | We t LA ges ak tions.moderation of — cessary to plorify excossively the facts.À great deal often may bu said by not saying it at all. When you desire to interest any one in a proposition you do not usually give him an extraordinary recitation of its attrac tions.Enough ie gffordod to allow his elastic imagination some play.Sufficient is left unsaid to present him later with a little surprise.A eatis- factory result is when a man says : ‘I bad no idea it wae as good as that ?There may be a hundred reasons why your particular city should be chosen for a certain industry.Do not ed vertise them all.Detail ninety # you like. But the other ten shouïd be learned by the visitor himself. There is a happy medium in municipal ad- vertieing.I!
