Titre :
The Quebec chronicle
La ligne éditoriale du journal est définie comme suit : « [.] in the management of The Morning Chronicle we shall, therefore, begin by simply declaring, that, as we glory in our connexion with the British Empire, it will be our undeviating aim and unremitting endeavour, to create and foster a cordial attachment to those time-honoured institutions which have made her so illustrious in the annals of the world ». (May 18, 1847, p. 2)

[Traduction]
Voici les différents titres que le Quebec Chronicle-Telegraph a connus depuis ses débuts : Disponibles en ligne : The Morning Chronicle (Jan. 1847 - Nov. 1850) The Morning Chronicle and Commercial and Shipping, 1850-1888 The Morning Chronicle (Feb. 1888 - May 1888) The Quebec Morning Chronicle, 1888-1898 The Quebec Chronicle, 1898-1924 Non disponible en ligne : The Chronicle Telegraph (1925-1934) The Québec Chronicle-Telegraph (1934 à ce jour)

The Faris correspondent of the New York Tribuné says :—It in felt in diplomatic circles here that the situation in China is approaching a most dangerous crisis.Never at any moment were any mingivings entertained at we Quai d'Orsay about the peaceful solution of the recent Anglo-Russian dispute at Tien Turin, that being rded merely a: a case of two pus ous fox terriers facing each other until withe drawn by their respective masters; hut what gives rise to gentine uneaziness in official circles here is the elect upon Jafun and other powers, including the United States, when the ull cou saquences of the formidable position acquired by Russia in Manchuria, are known and realized. It is significant that in all the discussions.in regard to China it is now tacitly understood, toth here and in Berlin, that Manchuria is no longer considered part of the Chinese tefritory, being excluded politically and commercially from ' the scope of an ference to China. This in iteelf is already a triumph for Russian diplomacy, and its disastrous effect upon the open door policy, so far as Northern Cuna is concerted, is scoepted here as a foregone conclusion, The v ew at the French Foreirn Office is that the proposals of the United States in regard to the Chinese indemnity are likely eventually to be sdopled. The sum of $200,000,000 to La divided, not equally among the powers, tut pro-rata, according to the cxpenses of the campaign, is considered fair and reasonable. It is now disclosed that Russia especially insisted that each netion should settle its own indemnity with China. In conversation last evening with “an important personage at he Quai a it was pointed out to me that de exception of Russia and Italy all the powers agreed upon the necessity of the indemnity, whatever the sum demanded, being negdtisted in a block, all the powers acting together.because if one power were permitied to negotiate separately, all sorts of givings and takings and swappings of commercial concessions and territorial premises would follow, and when the time of liquidation came it would be found that the influence «# each power in China wouid be measured by the mortgage acquired by some separate and often secret treaty. As my informant emphatically stated, separate demands for indemnity must lead logically to the partition of the Emire, which all powers pretend ' to desirous of avoiding.‘or this reason there is every probability that the powers will unite upon the indemnity Proposition suggewted by the Unit:d ates.ptosis es THEATRICALS IN LONDON beginning of a new development.Probably in the next five ycars, and certainly within the next ten, we shall make more pro- cress than we made in anv similar period in our history. The development of the steel industry, with many auxiliary trades, the utilization of the vast water powers and the opening up and settlement of forest areas hitherto neglected are pregnant with great pos sibilites for Canada.Greatly as we have advanced, it mav, therefore, with confidence be asserted that still greater achievements await us in the future.Soon the noble Nile, which has been worshipped for ages, will become the creature of man's whims and plans. All the huge granite blocks required for the new dam at Assuah have been quarried and are ready to be placed in position. Some 15,000 men are om- ploved there, nearly all natives.| The dam will have 180 openings, each 23 feet high and 7 feet wide, controlicd by steel sluices. At high Nile the water will be allowed to run through, but when water is about to become scarce the openings wil be closed and the dam will fill. The water can then be let out as required by the crops, (he regulative dam at Assiut, 300 miles farther north, helping ite distribution where wanted. All will be ready before the Nile flood of 1903.The use of the dam will greatly widen the cultivable area of Egypt and will give that country what other countries lack—a certainty in the matter of {he water required to produce crops.Rains are sbmelimes scanty.India and Russia, for example, suffer from famines due to deficient rains. But Egypt will be certain of water without rains. In the management of the water shed of Egypt man pro Puses to show more skill and foresight than nature has ever displayed.SE —— À Women with pale, colorless faces, who feel North Bay, where he has secured a good position, which he assumes next week, On the Senior Capitals last season Grimes was the most effective player that the defence had and while he was on the field attempts last week to dredge the channel deep enough.to float the challenger failed, owing (to the shifty nature of the Bottom. For a time it looked as if this might give rise to serious difficulties, because the long fin and heavy ballast demand 20 feet of water, which it is impo:- sible to get.In this dilemma, Mr.Watson devised an ingenius plan. This involves a huge water tight box of sufficient buoyancy to carry the whele weight of the yacht. The box is being built around her underbody in such a fashion that the whole of the hollow between the body of the vacht and the fin will be filled up.It is calculated that this will float six feet above the normal waterline of the vacht and that when deep water is reached it can be knocked away. One result of the use of the contrivance will te that the underbody will te hidden as the vacht goes” down the ways, and it will be impossible to get a complete photograph of her.WRESTLING.THE CANADIAN WON.Toronto, Ont., March 23.— The
