Titre :
Morning chronicle and commercial and shipping gazette
La ligne éditoriale du journal est définie comme suit : « [.] in the management of The Morning Chronicle we shall, therefore, begin by simply declaring, that, as we glory in our connexion with the British Empire, it will be our undeviating aim and unremitting endeavour, to create and foster a cordial attachment to those time-honoured institutions which have made her so illustrious in the annals of the world ». (May 18, 1847, p. 2)

[Traduction]
Voici les différents titres que le Quebec Chronicle-Telegraph a connus depuis ses débuts : Disponibles en ligne : The Morning Chronicle (Jan. 1847 - Nov. 1850) The Morning Chronicle and Commercial and Shipping, 1850-1888 The Morning Chronicle (Feb. 1888 - May 1888) The Quebec Morning Chronicle, 1888-1898 The Quebec Chronicle, 1898-1924 Non disponible en ligne : The Chronicle Telegraph (1925-1934) The Québec Chronicle-Telegraph (1934 à ce jour)

meed of praise to the rapid progress of Canada in national development, and the important aid which the Governor General rendered to that end : ¦ “ Lord Lome has made a good Governor for the Dominion. His predecessor, Lord Dufferin, has been the most popular Governor the Dominion had ever had.lo follow him was no easy ta.sk.To follow Lord Lome will be no less difficult. It was five years ago this week that ho was gazetted as Governor-General.The Jn,:er* val has witnessed greater industrial and commercial progress than Canada lias ever enjoyed in an equal period. The revenue of the Dominion has nearly doubled, an inconsiderable bebt has been practically extinguished, and a creditable surplus appears m this year’s budget. The most notable event was the reorganization ot the Canadian Pacific Railway throe yo^ra ago.The completion of the St.Paul, Minneapolis & Manitoba to its connection with the Pembina branch of the Canadian I a-cifio, opened the prosperous region of the Northwest Territory to settlement and marked Lord Lome’s administration as memorable in history for an immigration more rapid* well-to-do and enterprising than any country, the United States not excepted, has yet seen. The Lome Government was a most consistent and zealous aid to this settlement of Manitoba and the great wheat-raising regions to the >> est.Under Lord Lome Canada has ceased to maintain the differences with the mother country that once fretted her people. Her Government has been more independent and representative, and her people have made substantial progress in self-government.The spirit of improvement is upon them, and their aiqbition is that Canada shall become great and respected among the countries of the earth. Now and then there appears a slight effervescence upon the subject of annexation, but it soon evaporates in the heat of industry and se interest.Canada is diverse and peculiar enough to be an integer among the principalities of the New World, rather than the common fraction that she must be if she is ever taken into the United States.|-‘or" Lome is leaving a fair and thrifty land, where he and his wif® »f® beloved of a on the Quebec side of the river. This important work is situated near Wolfe’s Cove and upon the property of Mr.John Roche, adjoining bis steam saw mill.Mr.Roche has possessei for a considerable length of time excellent facilities for repairing damaged ships and steamers, and is now, with commendable enterprise and at a very considerable outlay, adding to those facilities by the bnilding of a new dry dock, destined for the reception of steamships of the very largest class. So far as now built, the dock is 280 feet in length, but it u intended to lengthen it to 550 feet.It is hoped that the work will be completed early in 1885, but even before this is effected all ordinary sea-going ships can be accommodated, and if one of the largest mail steamships had to be dry-dooked here, it could be accomplished by running up the damaged end and coffer-damning it into the dock, as was done at this very dock last w.n-term the case of the sa “Corean.” It is satisfactory to know that, with the completion of this and of the Government dock at St.Joseph de Levis, the port of Quebec will be so well furnished with the means of repairing any vessels that may be disabled here.It is also particularly gratifying to the people of the Ancient Capital to know that there is a prospect of a share of snob work being done by their own citizens, on the Quebec aide of the river, and that too through private enterprise. In connection with this dock a large quantity of new machinery for repairing iron snips, such as steam iron planers and drillers and screw and not makers, have been introduced into the workshops.llSOi IM Gill m DISlAI.November 18, 1882.Lm-cod&w __ * , m m .• a Three Rivers that J Hops for the Consumptive ! W.O.Stoddard, author of “Dab.Kinzer,n “Among the Lakes,” and “Saltillo Boys," begins another six months serial, entitled “Winter Fun.” Natural history receives due recognition in accounts of some “Benevolent Birds" and the polar hare, with illustrations by Nugent and Beard.A varied assortment of verses, jingles, and short stories, with pictures by Birch, Smedley, Bolles, Share, Edwards, Rose Mueller, D.C.Peters, and others, completes the number, REST AMD COMFORT TO THE SUFFERERS I “Brown’s Household Panacea " has no equal for relieving pain, both internal and external. It cures Pain in the Side.Back or Bowels, Sore Throat, Rheumatism, Toothache, Lumbago and any kind of a Pain or Ache.“It will most sorely quicken the Blood and Heal, as its acting power is wonderful.’’ “Brown’s Household Panacea,’’ being acknowledged as the great Pain Reliever, and of doable the strength of any other Elixir or Liniment in the world, should be in every family handy for use when wanted, “as it really is the best remedy in the world for Cramps in the Stomach, and Pains and Aches of all kinds," and isjjor sale by .al drugsists at 2o cents a bottle.MOTHER!
