but it must not be supposed any more than in our own case, that all is smooth sailing in the matter with the South Africans.Their territory new embraces one hundred and forty two thousand two hundred and fifty square and their position has been , by the recent annexation of the Dutch Boer country ; but, unfortunately for the colonists and for England, their increase of territory has carried with it its disadvantages, aa well as its ad* vantages.It has excited the discontent of some of the chiefs and induced outrages, which have called for severe _ptmJshaaent and repression ; and the result is that England is once more en-in one of those periodical and troublesome little wars with savages, which the force of local circumstances has compelled her to take upon her hands so frequently of late years that the circumstance has already been made the subject of more than one malicious foreign sneer.Of the preeent difficulty, It is easy to foresee that the up-shot will be the discomfiture of the misguided flufokm and the further extension and consolidation of British power in South Afnoa, f»r toal Mediae •*’ the Society r Use ft*revenue* of Cruelty to Animais.Tbe annual meeting of this Society was beM Monday at the rooms, St.Peter «treat.In the absence of the President, Mr.H.S.Boott was requested to take the chair.There were also present Messrs R.Hamilton, J 0.Thomson, Col.Forsyth, W.Hoesack, A.Wat- tsrs, H.Baddeo and A.Robertson.Tbe minutes of the last sanasl meeting jBadien, Tremner having been read and confirmed, the Secretary rend the report for this year, which is as followi Annual Report (1811) of the Quebec Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animale.In presenting their annul report the Oom his ooivionovs obTAiaftD.Joseph Plamendon, cruelly beating hone with a whip, fined $1 and costs Alfred Lessard, beating his horse with so axe, fined $3 and costs.Joseph Hoot, tenting his horse with a whip-handle, fined $1 and costs.Pierre Badean, beating his horse with an iron chain, fined $2 and costs.J.B.Gariepy, beating his horse with a stick, fined gft and oorts.Lonit RobttalHe, beating his horse with a whip, fined f 1 and costs.Pierre Verrat, kicking his horse, fined $1 and costs.Jean Leclerc, beating his horse with a whip handle, fined gl and costs.Isidore Dery, beating his horss with a brick, fined $2 and costs.Zephlrtn Gingras, abusing calves tied by the neck in a out, fined $1 and costs.Samuel Giroux, striking bis borse with a whip, causing the horse to fall, fined g2 and NEW BOUTE SOUTH, —VIA THE— Delaware and Hudson i;anal*jCo/t Railroads.F YOU are GOING to SARATOGA, TROT, ALBANY, or NEW YORK, .be rare and ask tor tickets V.a the I Francois Delisle, beating his horse with a whip-handle, fined $2 and costs.Loots Martel, beating his horse with a whip-handle, fined 91 bod costs.Jean Auclalr, beating bis horse, at Levis, fined $3, including costs ;
