Titre :
Morning chronicle and commercial and shipping gazette
La ligne éditoriale du journal est définie comme suit : « [.] in the management of The Morning Chronicle we shall, therefore, begin by simply declaring, that, as we glory in our connexion with the British Empire, it will be our undeviating aim and unremitting endeavour, to create and foster a cordial attachment to those time-honoured institutions which have made her so illustrious in the annals of the world ». (May 18, 1847, p. 2)

[Traduction]
Voici les différents titres que le Quebec Chronicle-Telegraph a connus depuis ses débuts : Disponibles en ligne : The Morning Chronicle (Jan. 1847 - Nov. 1850) The Morning Chronicle and Commercial and Shipping, 1850-1888 The Morning Chronicle (Feb. 1888 - May 1888) The Quebec Morning Chronicle, 1888-1898 The Quebec Chronicle, 1898-1924 Non disponible en ligne : The Chronicle Telegraph (1925-1934) The Québec Chronicle-Telegraph (1934 à ce jour)

but in her hands It treated with a delkscy and depth of fèeling really marvellous.Those grand and holy resolves naderiahen when the «routnes this portion of a Sister of Mercy In the Frsnco-Prussian campaign are apparent in her every action onttl the second fearful' temptation comes by which she sees apposai billty of occupying her place in the world, unstained and abofe reproach Her rad recRal of former grtsfe, wbsn to the hoepittl tent ta “Mis* Grace Roeeberry” (Miss Fanny Reeves) was an exquisite bit of acting.The constant dread of discovery when »he had assarued the identity and name of “Grace” wai always perceptibl*.The nervous shudder of criminality was to be seenJu each timorous start she gave when atnldenly addressed—*nd then the deadly fading away of colour from her cheeks, the helpless, pitiful inanition into which she euc< umbs when alone ; the naual strong, clear, drtermined notes of her voice die away loto fsiat whisper* When she contemplates the false podtlon in which the has plaotd herself.The crowning situations which Miss K-llogg occupies are id our mind, the interview with • Julian Gray'’ Mr.Felix Morris, the clergyman who unknown to himself has effected her partial conversion from evil, sad for whom she has an Intuitive liking—then the meeting of the true and the false “Grace Rcseberry.’ Knowing the enormity, of her offence aud willing to or-plate it most humbly, even abjectly her, scene with the bona-fide “Grace Roseberry’ will not soon/be forgotten.Urged to desperation by the dtfrauded lady whose title and existence she has purloined and who will not submit to snvtiling except a degrading admission of the troth in the pretence of the Aunlly she has learned to love ; she' stands at bey, and in the bitterest manner inveighs against her in-accent enemy in so thorough a contrast with her previous mildness that it elsotrifiea and astound* the audience, but convinces them of the varied and effective drsmaiic power* of the actress.Mies Fanny Boev ee, as “Graoe Rosaberry,” the Orphan Girl, confiding all her troubles to the first stranger of her sex she meets, and after her U ruble accident trying to penuafie “Lady Roy" that the Woman who ha* so deftly assumed her rights sod place is an imposter, was so charming and natural a performance ss it has been our lot to witness since reading Collins’ fiction.Miss Reeve* as “Kata Roseberry,” merited all the applause she received.The chaiacter of “Jollan Gray,’ the Broad-chnrch clergyman, wfioea views of the regeneration of poor human,ty were not circnmscribed to the narrow limits of a well doing, sober and religions congr getfon, but extended to all in pain, trouble and sin, was taken bv Mr.Felix Morris.There are some who object “to all stage performances” as pernicious, Heaven save the mark I bat If any of these qnibblers could have seen and heard the earnest, solemn tones of this meritorious and conscientious actor addressing the misguided ^“Mercy Merrick,’ they might have modified thtir opinion.Mis* Vincent auetaios the character of “Lady Janet Roy” with nontidersble skill.The part ot “Horace Holmoroft” is rather too strong, and requires more earnest nee» aud pathos than Mr.F.Smith hoi yet acquired, although he was very painstaking.At the conclusion of the drums, In which wè were sorry to see that tfcc prin ipats, Mins Kellogg, Miss Reevra, and Mr.M >nh, were not recalled, Profersor Muller exhibited h's extraordinary skill on thi vi illn, and the chriain was rang up for the musical comedietta of “Jenny Lind.” This little operatic gem might have been written expressly for Mrs.Fanny Stoddart, so perfectly does she enter lato the soul of it.A petfect revel of song and sweet music, with a dash of comicality to make bad listeners pay more attention, is the resnlt when this versatile songstress appears on the boards.Italian, German, English, French or Spanish airs and chansonettes flow in one continuous and mellifluous ripple from her lips, and small wonder is it that the Heidelberg stu-denta should taks her for the “Diva” heroclf.Mr.McDowell sings and performs In his usually correct way in this sparkling play.To-night the greatest New York success of late years.“The Big Bonanss,” will be produced.We may state that tho reserved seats for this play are nearly alt taken, so that an early application at the box offioe, Captain Holiwoll’s, will be necessary to secure good places.OPINIOM» OF THE PEOPLE.( To ths Editor ! [Mr*.Cockbum Miss Jennie Watson. ( Humorous Bong.Wouldn’t You Lika to be Me Mr.J.F.Hardy.’ National Song_d rstsmed to Us past at Qstbsc took a Isag time to set throsgh tm ¦iiir r1— What the re.____will ho las barn considered ta Ottawa.gfl later-T It i»*ha „ 10 of erfcct ovation—he was almost tbe smallest my in the party.The conso atirn stakes, as it is said Inevitably happ-ns, foil to Mr.W.B Btodte, secood money being claimed by a lad nomad John Hall, of this office.Captain Helgbaa distributed the exceedingly hand some gold and silver m«da)s and other prises to the juvenile atbletaa.Three charrs were given for the j ad gas and tbs starur, and very soccrufnl meet waa terminated by the bond playing the National Anth.m.We con grata late D.F.B.Club on their genuine triumph, and hope that next year's tourna-ment may he produced with even more eclat Ehiypiag futeUigtan.Domsiorr AA Link.—The as Ontario.Capt mchette, from Liverpool, passed Father Point at 10.40 p.m.yesterday, wlib 14 eabln, 1» steenf?paetengem, and a general ea go.•he will arrive ia port to-day.The B Borna, from Newfoundland, at tb s post yes' erday morning, changed pilote, and procnisd for Montreal.Tbe pilot reports ' wo shipping from Father Point to _ Pota;
