Titre :
Morning chronicle and commercial and shipping gazette
La ligne éditoriale du journal est définie comme suit : « [.] in the management of The Morning Chronicle we shall, therefore, begin by simply declaring, that, as we glory in our connexion with the British Empire, it will be our undeviating aim and unremitting endeavour, to create and foster a cordial attachment to those time-honoured institutions which have made her so illustrious in the annals of the world ». (May 18, 1847, p. 2)

[Traduction]
Voici les différents titres que le Quebec Chronicle-Telegraph a connus depuis ses débuts : Disponibles en ligne : The Morning Chronicle (Jan. 1847 - Nov. 1850) The Morning Chronicle and Commercial and Shipping, 1850-1888 The Morning Chronicle (Feb. 1888 - May 1888) The Quebec Morning Chronicle, 1888-1898 The Quebec Chronicle, 1898-1924 Non disponible en ligne : The Chronicle Telegraph (1925-1934) The Québec Chronicle-Telegraph (1934 à ce jour)

by encouraging a more générai use of tbe telegraph, are more profitable than biah.It is not however solely in the light of a sefe and good Investment that the DireoUr* desire that this enterprise should bo viewed.Tney feel that their object will be but indtflerently attained unless they can satisfy the public, the business and commercial men, that all who use the telegraph u a medium of rapid communication, are interested in the establishment of what may be » competing Line.As in the admiaistration of public affairs, a strong, watchful Opposition, is the best security fer good and careful'government ; so in commercial matters, an honest rivalry m ine various pursuits and branches ot trade furnishing tho best security that the public shall be well served.To apply the argument to the purpose lu hand, the following Uble showing the l»»Ml*J»ncle^ and, in many instances the excessive rates now charged ou messages passing between the Cities and Towns of Oniario, Quebec, and the United St.aes, will, it is believed, convince the reader »ha‘ •“ honest competition is needed, not only for the redaction and adjustment of rates, but also that attention and care which would-of necessity bo enforced on the Companies compeUng for publie favor, and thus tend greatly to promote the general interests of the community.EXAMPLE OF PRESENT TARIFF RATES, WITH DISTANCES.MILES.____82 333 CANADIAN MONEY.40e 3(1 From Toronto to Suspension Bridge.— •» ” Montreal.« “ Mitchell, Seaforth, Bothwell, A Isa, j Craig, Caledonia, Chatham, Dun- j ville, Newbury, 1 ort Burwell, Port Colborne and many * ' places.j •< f* Kingston.-.—-• «• >r Quebec.«».- a Example of present tariff rates to Buffalo, aud frem thence to the following p aces.In U.S.cur-rency, which reduced to Canada money at 45 per cent premium, makes the actual cost, as in sooond column :— oauy otherj 16u 666 40 25 60 VelCM CoLLaCTZD AT ’ Toxomro.ACTUAL COST, BOTB TAKlVtS.To New York.80o From Torontatà Buffalo.Buffalo te ^ ) 5Q0 • New York.1 __________ From Toronto to Buffalo.To Philadelphia, -«T- .$1 05 .30o Reduced to ) 85c—$0 6b Canada Money, j .THK TIMBER TOWERS of (fluebee having formed themselves into an Association for the purpose of securing a fair remuneration for their work, and alec for the purpose of binding the members to assist on* another, when, inconsequence of an accident or otherwise, the property entrusted to the charge of any of the Members of the Association is in danger of being lost, the following TARIFF OF PRICES bas been adopUd, which will, in no case, be deviated from :— For Towing the Cargoes of Vessels from Victoria Cove to Commissioners' Wharf, or any intermediate place on the North Side of the River, 8 cents per load.From New Liverpool to Davie’s Slip, on the South Side of the River, 8 cents per load.From Cap Rouge to any of the above named places, 10 centa per load.From Indian Cove to any of tbe above named places, 10 cents per load.From St Charles River to any of the above named places, 10 cents per load.And Crossing tbe St.Lawrence, 10 cents per load.From St.Charles River to Commiasloners* Wharf, 8 cents per load.Ships taking cargo from the Boom at which they load, shall be bound to pay 6 oenta per load 50 cents per Quebec Standard for Deals, or 36 cents per St.Petersburg Standard.From Hamilton A Bros.’ Cove to Benson’s Cove, 25 cents por St.Petersburg Standard Deals.Any part nnder 40 loads, to be charged at from 4 to 6 dollars per tide, unless the portion token forms part of cargo.All monies to be paid in Bankable tonds, jgg- The undersigned is authorized to collect all monies due to the Timber Towers’ Association for 1868.JOHN WARE, Secretary.May 13,______________________ the mmim gf Jamaica • A CLIMATE FOR INVALIDS.COUNTRY LODGINGS, Sto»y HUI, m the Pariah of St* Astir ewe, Jamaica, West ladle** A LADY, residing near Stony Hill Barracks, (nine miles from the City of Kingston,;
