MIC Mission News E D I TO RI A L • • „•» • $S3.- -J -¦ **> '.InS&d *¦ - — '.-Vff tf mmr*.- Æ'i, t pj.’omen of the fyeatitudeo \ PHOTO: M.I.C., PHILIPPINES PHOTO: M.I.C., CHILE Jesus went up a hill one day and He began to teach His disciples: "Happy are the meek, the peacemakers, those who thirst for what is right.Happy are you because.the kingdom of heaven is yours." (Mt 5, 1-13).In a heart-to-heart encounter, He outlined for them a program of life centered on their richness of being before sending them out to spread the Good News among their brothers and sisters, and He set down for them some practical attitudes that related to their mission. The Beatitudes are central to the Gospel message; they show the paths of the mission in the footsteps of Jesus. These paths are called poverty, justice, peace, charity, compassion, tenderness, love of the little ones and of the humble. As disciples of Jesus, what attitude do we pre- sent to the world today?Pope John Paul II reminds us that: "The missionary is a person of the Beatitudes" and that "The messenger proclaims the Good News not only by what he says or does, but by what he is" (RM, nos.91, 13).Being and Doing are two realities which define and usually characterize a person or a group. In God's eyes, each person is chosen, selected for a very specific mission. The same is true of groups. In religious life, one speaks of the charism of a community in fidelity to the particular gift of the Founder or Foundress. In our case, as Missionaries of the Immaculate Conception (M.I.C.), who are we?What is our unique vocation in the world and in the Church? What is the heritage handed down from Délia Tétreault, our Foundress? What is the spirituality that moves us?How many members do we have?Where can they be found? What ministries do they carry out?The M.I.C.colours are shown throughout the pages of this calendar, allowing you, by means of excerpts of our Constitutions (our Rule of Life) and of the Encyclical Mission of the Redeemer (RM) written by Pope John Paul II, to get a fuller picture of these missionaries whose desire is to recognize the spirit of thanksgiving in all human beings. In the same vein as on the Mount of the Beatitudes, the Lord could say: "Happy are you who can feel the heart of God beating in the heart of the world: joy will brighten your eyes."
