Mr.H.F.Coates to Montreal, recently.CANADIAN PUBLISHERS VISIT GEJRGIAN BAY.Two Days Outing Following Annual Meeting.PENETANGUISHENE, PARRY SOUND AND COLLING-WOOD VISITED.\u2014 AMONG THE 40,000 ISLANDS.The Canadian Press Association meeting, held in Toronto, last week-, was followed by a delightful two days' outing in the Georgian Bay district.The Canadian newspapermen with with their ladies, the whole party numbering over 200, left Toronto by special train, Thursday morning over the Grand Trunk Railway for Pene-tanguishene.The run was through an attractive section of Ontario, apparently enjoying a large measure of agricultrual prosperity.A glimpse was had of the ditch which bears the name of the \u201cNewmarket Canal\u201d now under construction.\u201cYou may build bridges and call them wharves in Quebec,\u201d remarked a Tory confrere from Toronto, \u201cbut it takes Ontario to get government money for a joke like the Newmarket Canal.\u201d PENETANGUISHENE.Arriving at Pehetanguishene, the party was transferred by steamer to the Penctanguishene Hotel, where lunch was served.The location of this hotel is delightlul, in the midst of an oak grove.and looking out over the bay.Penetanguishene is an Indian term, meaning \u2018 rolling sands.\u201d It is an historic place, being the site of the early Jesuit Missions among the Huron Indians in the early days and it was near here that Le-boeuf, the brave missionary, suffered martyrdom.A memorial bas been erected in his honor.THROUGH THE 40,000 ISLANDS.Leaving Penetanguishene at 2 p.m.the journalists had a delightful sail through the 40,000 islands of Georgian Bay to Parry Sound, in the Northern Navigation Company\u2019s steamer, \u201cWaubic.\u201d While the islands in sight surely number forty-thousand there are said to be as many just out of sight.The passing steamers frequently touch these submerged rocks, but the experienced pilots know the channels so well that serious accidents never occur.The night was spent at Parry Sound, dinner being served at the Belvidere.a large hotel occupying a commanding position overlooking the bay.The Parry Sound district has large lumber interests and extensive operations are carried on in this connection.ON TO COLLINGWOOD.Friday afternoon, was occupied with the trip from Parry Sound to Col-lingwood in the steamer \u201cGermanic\u201d of the Northern Navigation Company service.At Collingwood the party was met by Mayor Currie and members of the Council and escorted to the Town Hall where a splendid banquet was served and official welcomes extended and responded to.Collingwood is an attractive and progressive town, with broad streets and granolithic sidewalks throughout The chief industry is shipbuilding, the largest freighter under the British flag having been launched here some time ago.A feature of the stay at Collingwood was the laying of the corner stone of the new King George School by Mr.J.F.McKay, retiring president of the association.This building will cost $30,000 and be a most modern structure in every respect.Mr.David Williams, an ex-president of the Canadian Press Association, contributed much to the enlightenment of the excursionists relative to this delightful section of country by the distribution of an illustrated booklet and later at Collingwood by a special issue of hfs paper, the Collingwood Bulletin.An interesting incident at Collingwood was the presentation of silver plate to Mr.C.A.MacDonald of the Northern Navigation Company and to Mr.A.E.Duff of Toronto, district passenger agent of the Grand Trunk Railway, who had been assiduous in their efforts to make the trip enjoyable.Mr.Duff, by the way, is a native of Sherbrooke.Toronto was reached about 8.30 p.m.after a remarkably fast run over the Grand Trunk from Collingwood.The two days\u2019 outing will rank in interest with the most enjoyable of the several excursions which the Canadian Press Association has undertaken.The next meeting of the Association will be held in Ottawa.Mr.C.W.Young, the veteran publisher of the Cornwall Freeholder, is president of the Association this year.en by the ladies of, the Et.Jamis\u2019 Church Guild took place on Wednesday afternoon.-46-\u2014\u2014 MARTIN VILLE j News was received here on Sunday of the sudden death of Mr.Hiram Hitchcock, of Kansas.Mr.Hitchcock was the son of the late Mr.Hiram Hitchcock, who for many years was a resident of this locality.The news of the death of Mr.Hitchcock came as a shock to his many friends here.BEDFORD.Arrivals and departures : Mrs.Hew-son, of Clarenceville, a few days recently, guest of Mrs.C.B.Jameson;
