[" ) » Established 1897.SHERBROOKE.QUE., FRIDAY.DECEMBER 12, 1930.Thirty-Fourth Year.ROYAL SANCTION GIVEN REIEF MEASURE AS CHAMBER ADJOURNS HAVING TROUBLE FORMING A NEW FRENCH CABINET Diverting of Relief Funds to Church and School Corporations Caused Last Minute Debate in Legislature Y ester-day\u2014Lieutenant-Governor Signs Bill\u2014Conservative Attitude on Jewish School Question Attached by Member for St.James.QUEBEC, Dec.12.\u2014Royal approval was placed on the Government unemployment measure by which Quebec may take advantage of the Dominion Government unemployment grant, yesterday, and the Quebec Legislature adjourned for the Christmas recess, to convene again on January 7th.Under the bill, which was signed by Hon.H.G.Carroll, Lieutenant-Governor, the municipalities may go ahead with relief works during the winter the necessary money being provided by the Dominion and Provincial Governments and the municipalities themselves.The debate on the reply to the Speech from the Throne was concluded vesterday.The relief bill received third reading in the Legislative Council, or Upper House, and went back to the Assembly, or Lower House, for approval of the amendments.One amendment brought out sharp debate before being passed in the Assembly.In authorized the municipalities to turn over to Roman Catholic and Protestant corporations and School Commissions all or part of the grant made to the municipalities to be applied to construction or reparation of churches and schools.The Corporations or School Commissions would be required to reimburse the municipality of that proportion of the money supplied by the municipality itself.The Opposition raised the question as to whether relief money could be spent in such manner and was assured by Premier L.A.Taschereau that Ottawa had approved such expenditure and that in the West relief money was being used to build or repair churches.In many parishes where there was unemployment such work was the only building necessary at the moment, he said.The Jewish school issue was reechoed in the House again yesterday when Irene Vautrin, Liberal M.L.A, for St.James, Montreal, in closing the debate on the reply to the Sueech from the Throne, assailed the Opposition leader for the attitude taken during the recent bye-elections.The method in which the Federal Government was meeting the unemployment difficulties did not meet the approval of the member for St.James, who.in closing, however, reiterated that in reality there was very little unemployment in this province.MINISTER HOME AGAIN TODAY m Will Board Special Boat Train at St.John, N.B., This Afternoon and Will Reach Capital at Noon Tomorrow.ST.JOHN, N.B., Dec.12.\u2014Prime Minister the Rt.Hon.R.B, Bennett will return to the Dominion this afternoon in a setting typically Canadian.Early this morning snow began to blanket the city of St.John, where Hon.Mr.Bennett will first set foot in Canada after more than two months at the Imperial Conference, and well before noon this \u201cgrey port of the grey sea\u201d was white.WTiile one of the heaviest snowfalls of the season was in prospect, the weather generally was mild, and conditions for the welcoming of the Prime Minister and his party back home were auspicious.The Duchess of Atholl, on which Premier Bennett is returning, was expected to dock at West St.John some time in the mid-afternoon, when a delegation of prominent citizens.including Premier J.B.M.Baxter, will convey the city\u2019s welcome.With the Prime Minister are his sister, Miss Mildred Bennett, Hon.Maurice Dupre, Solicitor General, and Mrs.Dupre, and W.D.Her-ridge, K.C.The party will board a private car attached to the special boat train shortly after disembarking, and early this evening will leave for Ottawa, reaching the capital at noon tomorrow.Hon.Mr.Bennett\u2019s stay in St.John will probably not exceed two hours.CHICAGO AND ALTON RAILWAY CHANGES HANDS SOME CHANGES IN PORTFOLIOS QUITE LIKELY After Premier Ferguson Has Resigned as Premier of Ontario and His Successor Has Been Sworn into Office, It Is Believed Some Important Decisions Will Be Announced.ILLEGAL TRADE PRACTISED AT MANSONVILLE REICHSTAG ADJOURNED UNTIL hEBRUARY not yet succeeded in forming a cabinet, and requested more time to continue his conversations.TORONTO, Ont., Dec.12.\u2014Resignation of Premier G.Howard Ferguson and the swearing in to office his successor, probably Hon.George S.Henry, Minister of Highways, is o .\t-n.j ci\t.I expected to take place within a few d JS.ÏS'.f fS ,S' E5 ty\\ Th?'*\u201c r PrTf F^\"- proceedings.With the return of Premier Ferguson to his office, developments are expected almost immediately.The intimation by Hon.W.H, Price, Attorney-General, at Windsor last night, that there would be important changes in the personnel of the Ontario Cabinet has aroused much | speculation.The name of Hon.Leopold Mac-Aulay, Provincial Secretary, has been mentioned in connection with ¦ the education portfolio.It is recall-.\t, .T _\t_\t;
