ENGLAND (Record correspondent) SUTTON — True to their promise, Sutton Lions put on an excellent show on Saturday, July 30th.Just-right weather cooperated with efficient human effort to make that Family Festival Day so pleasingly successful that its sponsors now plan to repeat it every summer as an annual event. The chief features of the afternoon program were a colorful street parade and bicycle races; and.for nighttime entertainment from 6 until 12, there was a tombola and a street dance. The Enosburg Band furnished music for the afternoon events, and Robinson's Orchestra from Bedford for the evening tombola and dance. The parade, which preceded and ushered in the Bicycle Meet, was a big gala one worth more than slight mention, and hundreds of thrilled spectators watched from side walks and other vantage points as the parader® passed.Marching from their assembly place on the Dyer Road opposite the St.Andre Catholic Church, those well-organized participants came down .the hill to quickstep along Western Avenue luring and passing along South Main, Maple and Pleasant to finish their march on the Legion recreation grounds on Curley Street.Besides Lions, in that long line of paraders were members of the Legion and Auxiliary, Scouts.Cubs, and Girl Scouts. Also, there were many handsome horses ridden by adults, and pretty ponies with children on their backs.! A yoke of fine looking oxen, a Model T Ford, ancient Chevy iand even an antique big wheels and little wheel bicycle owned by Mrs.Zavier Bombardier, jwere included as wrell. It was really some parade! Different from the winter sled dog derbies and the summer sports car races held during recent years at this Eastern Townships town, each contest on Saturday was independent of all the rest; so, due to that fact and because race courses, some short, and others long, were unmeasured ones along town streets, no contestant was ranked as an over-all winner.ÉjK- LAf! .I'lHfca 1 J||i!||il|W r sirai" ii '¦ Mr.and Mrs.John Muhl, Sugar Bush Hill Riding School, in Sutton, part of the Lions’ Parade.nil' .-¦*Ow^-UHilllS|IM|,|!|| H"', i Frank Cousins, of Bolton, and team of oxen.WATERLOO Mr, and Mrs.Ben Rainville spent three days travelling to Burlington and Plattsburg. They also called on Mr.and Mrs.V.Magwood, Chambly.Rev.F.Brockwell, Oshawa.Sherbrooke Daily Record COWANSVILLE P.O.Box 32 News Office, 413 South St., Tel.263-3636 or 263-0482 Also subscriptions, renewals, classified advertising.Or mail to Box 1200, Sherbrooke, Que.was a recent guest of his mother, Mrs.Merle Wells.Mr.and Mrs.John Champagne returned on July 22 from a holiday trip to Montreal, Blackpool, Brampton and Oshawa.Recent guests of Mr.and Mrs.Richard Eldridge, and family were Mrs.C.Grey, Miss Marilyn Grey and Mrs.C.Johnston, all of Montreal.Mrs.Goldie Hollenbeck is presently a patient at the B M P.Hospital.Sweetsburg.Mr.and Mrs.Gerald Hollenbeck and family returned recently from a vacation trip to Belfast, N.Y.Mr.and Mrs.John Wells are spending the summer in Newfoundland.Guests during the weekend at the summer home of Mr.and Mrs.Tom Wilkinson at S e Iby Lake included young Neil Stretch.Mr.and Mrs.Ben Rainville and family and Mr.and Mrs.John Champagne and family.Racing machines ranged all the way from pedal cars and velocipedes for tiny tots to one-speed, 3-speed and those 10-speed bikes for older cyclists. There were contests for boys and girls of all juvenile age groups. And the girls, as well as the boys, raced very fast and well.Result of those races are as follows: Children i ¦ 5, Tricycle Race 1st.Scott Davidson.2nd.Elaine Royea.Winner's time 6 seconds.Boys 6 • 9.Bicycle Derby Event 1st.Philip Holden, 2nd.Terence Westover.3rd.Jay Dar-rah.Winner’s time 13.7 sec.(No girls competed in that age group).Girls 10 - 12, Bicycle Derby Event 1st.Roslyn Westover, 2nd.Liliane Ouimet, 3rd.Lorraine Cournoyer.Winner’s time 4 min.33 sec.Boys 10 • 12 Bicycle Derby Event 1st.Pierre Rioux, 2nd.David Lamb, 3rd.Terry Goyette.Winner's time 8 min.48 sec.Boys 10 - 12, Bicycle Derby 10-snecd Event 1st.Mark Hawley, 2nd.Jean Nil Boulanger.Winner’s time 7 min, 30 sec.Girls 13 • 15, Bicycle Derby Event 1st.Barbara Withall, 2nd.!
