prices which are now as high as they have been since 1975 However an increase in hog supplies together with a considerable decline in prices is generally anticipated during the next six months This should augur well for retail pork prices Hog production was relatively profitable for farmers for much of 1977 Retail pork prices are currently 14 9 per cent above February 1977 levels Lower chicken thought this such a good idea that she is going to do the same with her cards.— MRS.G.S.G.This is a new idea that uses one of the world’s oldest fruits, the tangerine. When first discovered in China, the fruit was named the mandarin orange because “mandarin’ meant “superior” to the Chinese.Today there are enough varities of California-Arizona tangerines to supply market from November through May.Two varities, the Minneola and Kinnow, are the ones you’ll be most likely to see in stores today. The Kinnow, prized for its rich and sweet flavour, should be in exceptionally good supply this year Yellow-orange in colour and smooth with thin skin, the Kinnow is slightly flat in shape The Minneola, on the other hand, is reddish orange to deep red in colour, with a knob-like formation on one end Its flavour is rich and tart The Minneola is a tangelo, a hybrid of tangerine and grapefruit.TANGERINE WALNUT TOPPING *2 cup packed brown sugar 2 tablespoons cornstarch 34 cup fresh squeezed tangerine Service for the Philipsburg and St Armand area was held in the Philipsburg United 'Tiurch on Friday, March 3rd, at 2 p m when a large number from the congregations of St Paul’s Anglican, Philipsburg Roman Catholic Church, Sisters of the Presentation de Marie of Philipsburg and the Si Armand Roman Catholic Church joined together for this bilingual ecumenical service They were also joined by a group of Golden Agers from Stanbridge East Mrs F A Field of the Anglican CHurch and Mrs.G L Kidd of the United welcomed the gathering as they arrived and gave to each one the bilingual form of service Mrs Gordon Ewing, on behalf of the ladies of the church welcomed those attending Mrs Andre Bellefroid of St Armand replied to this welcome, both ladies mentioning the fact that this was the 60th Anniversary of this World’s Day of Prayer Service Mrs E.H Naylor of the Anglican Church and Mrs M Remillard of the Philipsburg Catholic Church were the leaders of this bilingual service which had as its theme “Community Spirit in Modern Living ” The service followed, as printed in the service sheets with ladies from the different churches taking part The choir of the St Armand Church, augmented by members of the other churches, with their organist, Mrs Wilfrid Chabot and choir director.Mrs A Bellefroid.led in the singing of the bilingual hymns as printed in the service sheets The message, taken from the theme of the service was given in English by Mrs G Sandilands and by Sister Gauthier in French, both speaking forcefully and impressively in the chosen subject.During the offering which was taken by Mrs George Sutherland of the United and Mrs D’Arcy Neville of the Philipsburg Catholic, an authem was rendered by the St Armand Choir, with Mrs.A Bellefroid as soloist. The offering.which amounted to $80 00, has been forwarded to the Women’s Inter-Church Council of Canada Following the service, all went to the I>egion Hall where refreshments were served and a most enjoyable social hour was spent Thanks were expressed to the ladies of the United Church by Mrs Raeburn Orr, speaking in French and F-nglish, for their kind hospitality and for the en joyment all had derived from this ecumenical gathering, which was the largest attendance present since the yearly service was inaugurated in this area Social and Personal The friends of Mrs Arthur Lebourveau, of Cookshire, will be sorry to learn she is a surgical patient in the Sherbrooke Hospital All wish her a speedy recovery >; should never, never, never stop taking it unless your doctor says so.If you iji stopped taking it what would happen to you9 £ DEAR READER - Most people who take I>anoxin or other digitalis preparations take them because they •x*x*2§ ^ave heart failure.A small number take them to control heart irregularities.Heart failure causes fluid to collect in your lungs interfering with breathing. When the right heart is also involved you have swelling of the feet, ankles, abdomen and liver. The digitalis strengthens the heart muscle and enables the heart to pump enough blood to correct the heart failure. This works fine as long as you take it.As soon as you stop it, if you really had heart failure from permanent heart damage to begin with, the heart’s pumping action gets weaker and the fluid starts accumulating again. And while you say most doctors don’t tell their patients to take their medicines I can’t verify your statement.Of course some idealistic doctors are pretty naive and think their good patients are going to follow their instructions to the letter. It wouldn’t occur to these doctors that after paying to see the doctor and getting his advice, then paying for medicine, that the patient would stop following his instructions by stopping the medicine. After a few years of getting to know human habits such doctors realize the error of their ways. You are absolutely right that people often tend to stop taking medicine as soon as they feel better rather than as long as the doctor told them to take it.Yes, some fruit juice or a banana helps keep your potassium level up, and this helps prevent some undesirable side effects of digitalis medicines that sometimes occur.People with heart problems and high blood pressure usually do better to limit their sodium salt and maintain adequate potassium intake. It is even a good idea for all of us; most people eat too much salt.To give you more information on this I am sending you The Health letter number 10-12, Salt: Your Vital Sodium and Potassium Balance.Others who want this information can send 50 cents with a long, stamped, self-addressed envelope for it to me in care of this newspaper, P.O.Box 326, San Antonio, TY 7ft9Q9 DEAR DR.IJVMB - My three teenage children have a hi-fi which they play with the volume very high.In fact, it is deafening I claim that it will damage their hearing if they continue to listen to it with the volume so high.My own peace of mind is affected by the noise, but my main concern is the possible damage to their hearing.Would you please comment?DEAR READER - You are right. It is deafening.Studies have been done, particularly on loud rock music, and continued exposure will lead to hearing damage.Noise damage is a real thing and the kind of noise doesn’t make any difference — whether it is music, gunfire, engines or anything else. The loudness and range of the sound involved is what damages the ears.FOR SALE BURROUGHS F-1400 ACCOUNTING MACHINE Set up for accounts receivable/payab and payroll.Apply to Sherbrooke Record Tel.: (819) 569-9S26 TME SHERBROOKE RECORD - Huskies would win the Canadian college basketball championship as a birthday present “I didn’t go out and buy a present for her todav.’ Heanev said with a chuckle after the Huskies unseated Acadia Axemen Saturday night as Canadian Inter collegiate Athletic Union champions with a 99-91 victory in the CIAU final “I asked her two weeks ago what she wanted for her birthday and she said she wanted the national cham pionshipfor the Huskies I took the kids out and got them presents for her but not one from me “I had a feeling we might be ready to win it all.’ said Heaney, whose club qualified for the tournament as the host team In a playoff for third and fourth places, York Yeomen, the Ontario East champions, finally got their shooting game down and dumped Victoria Vikings, the western title holders, 94-81.In the battle for fifth and sixth places, the wild-card laurentian Voyageurs from Sudbury, Ont., took a 69-53 decision from Manitoba Bisons, the No.1-ranked team in the nation before the tournament began and the Great Plains champions DISAPPOINTING ENDING It was a disappointing finish for the Bisons and the final game in the college careers of forwards Cliff Bell, Grant Watson and Greg Daniels, as well as all-Canadian guard Martin Riley. The title game matched two arch-rivals with a rich history and tradition of going at each other with great intensity. This one was no different It showed in the last few seconds when St.Mary’s centre John Brown slammed in a two-hand dunk shot that aroused the ire of Acadia centre Vic Soares to the point w here both exchanged shoves and punches.“We did what we had to do,” said Heaney.“We kept Soares away from the basket as much as we could and I think our big people won most of the battles with him Acadia coach Dick Hunt, thwarted at an attempt to lead only the second team to win consecutive titles, said the Sares-Brown outbreak was more from frustration and pride than anything “We try to win with humility and lose with pride I hope we did that.I give credit to St.Mary’s and to (Ron) McFarland especially. He was just super tonight.” McFarland, a six-foot four-inch guard from Ansonia, Conn , scored almost at will during the game, ending with 38 points, many from shots 30 feet and more away from the basket.Frank White tossed in 26 points to help the cause and Tom Kappos, a tournament allstar, had 16 Visser Tournament champions.Lower Canada College, pose following their thrilling 47-40 championship victory over Centennial Regional on Saturday at Bishop’s University. It is the first time thaat LCC has won the event basketball squad in the second half here Friday to eliminate the Gaiters from CIAU conten tion to take a 78-62 triumph BU’s shooting left much to be desired in the game, especially in the second half, and it gave laurentian the time to build up their four-point half-time advantage in the final 20 minutes. The Gaiters showed a lot of fatigue in the late going, having played very hard in their 84-74 loss to York Uni versity the previous day in their tournament opener.Dave Thornhill put on another good display of shooting.both inside and outside, to lead the club with 17 points His 30 per cent shooting average from the floor shows how things just weren’t going Bishop’s way.Trevor Bennett and Wayne Hussey followed with 15 and 14 points respectively.Hussey got a chance to sit out the final 47 seconds, the first time in the two games that he was replaced on the floor The recovery from stomach flu still hadn’t given him his full mobility back during the game Bennett got 11 rebounds Blair Shier ran so hard on his bad ankle Thursday that he hobbled badly against the Voyageurs and only picked up three rebounds, a necessary part of the Bishop’s game.He scored seven points in the match.Bishop’s stayed very close to Laurentian in the first half and could have taken the lead near the end if the ball had bounced the other way a couple of times The Sudbury win was paced by two first-team All-Canadians, guard Charlie Wise, and Bruce Burnett.Burnett, deadly around the basket with his 6' 6“ frame, scored 27 points while Wise seemed to be getting points all over the floor, netting 22.It was Bishop’s first outing in the nationals since 1967 and while they lost twice, neither game was a real walk-away.LENNOXVILLE (BP) Consistent defence allowed Lower Canada College to win
