WEEK Arts and Entertainment Magazine April 20-26, 1997 ¦.: ; H If ddie Heath Solid as a rock TANYA TKACH/CORRESPONDENT HP* PAGE 2 June 20-26, 1997 Towns hip sw e e k Talk of the Townships New York-Paris, Megantic Outlaw, Groucho and more Summer of music at Theatre Lac Brome By Diahann Nadeau Record Correspondent Knowlton The seeds have been planted for Theatre Lac Brome’s summer season of all-musical shows.It buds with New York-Paris, a revue penned by star Peter Pringle, unfolds with the return of The Megantic Outlaw, co-writ-ten by the theatre's artistic director Nicholas K.Pynes, and blossoms with Groucho: A Life in Review, co-authored by Groucho Marx’s son Arthur and featuring tunes and skits from Marx Brothers comedies.The season matures into September with pianist John Arpin and actors Rob Burns and Glen Roy performing a tribute to Eddie Cantor, and the musical comedy duo Bowser and Blue.Pynes said the season wasn’t planned with music in mind.“We wanted to bring back The Megantic Outlaw, because it ran at the end of the season and it was very popular, but not enough people had a chance to see it,” said Pynes, who wrote the script based on the life of well-known Townships bandit Donald Morrison with Montrealer Edward S.Herkes.Pynes said last year’s production was a tentative tryout, with the barest of sets and minimal expenses.This year, he said it has been “significantly changed” and much of the music is new.Pynes himself will be playing the accordion during the play.The other plays were chosen, he said, “to balance the season.” In Pynes’s vocabulary, ‘balance’ is an important word.So is ‘Quebec content’.The Megantic Outlaw resulted from Pynes’s wish that Theatre Lac Brome produce plays that “reflect our society, £ Moneyline E l'illif Discovery.ca E LU International Hour S3
