could get in the way of last Friday’s official opening of Citizen Advocacy’s (CA) long awaited maison des jeunes. Some 60 visitors dropped by during the day, followed by another 90 who attended the evening’s official ribbon-cut-ting ceremony.Donors of all stripes came out to sip wine and share in the celebrations, including Potton Mayor Claude Laplume, whose council kicked in $20,000 to help build the centre.Hatley Township Mayor Pierre Levac was also on hand to represent the Memphrémagog MRC, which granted a $60,000 rural pact subsidy.A banner showing the names of individual donors, corporations and foundations revealed more than 200 other contributors.CA president Eddie Ross expressed the appreciation of the board for everyone’s efforts, including the tireless work of youth director Mable Hastings and executive director Alison Hannan.Ross especially noted the work of the capital appeal committee, whose members were “relentless in their efforts.” Hastings was equally ardent in her praise.“It takes an amazing community, some extremely generous people, a lot of hard work, dedication and an abun- dance of love to do what this small community has done for its youth,” she said.It was “an extraordinary dream” come true, she told the group gathered in the evening.Three youths — $arah Jersey, Rachelle Lachance and Christine $amborsky — also rose to the occasion and added their words of appreciation. The centre, a 36’X60’ newly constructed white and blue building located at 282 Principale in Mansonville, has already begun welcoming SADD and other groups.Local youths had previously met on a temporary basis in the town hall after the loss of the United Church basement, three years ago.Other CA service recipients have also started using the facilities, including special needs users from the Ken Jones Centre. The long-awaited youth drop-in — temporarily on hold until pool tables and other youth-friendly furnishings can be installed — is expected to start next week.“Before any of the lights were in and the floor was done, when the walls were still covered in white dust, I came here with a group to clean and put on the paint primer,” Hastings told the group. One of the youth walked in with a player and popped in a CD, while the others “all stood around like it was some beacon on the shore.” The song they played that day was ‘It feels like home to me’.PEACE School to host Auction and dinner Nov.29 in Bondville Staff The Petit Ecole Alternative des Cantons de l’Est will hold a fundraising auction and dinner Nov.29 at Prouty Hall, 5 Mill St.in
