17, 2003 Godin a God in guitars Luthier making new waves in La Patrie By Jake Brennan Special to The Record La Patrie Step into the small front office of Godin Guitars in La Patrie and you might get the wrong impression. The wallpaper is tattered, the ceilings are patchy — it looks like any other small-time business in a middle-of-nowhere town. But pass through the double doors into the plant behind and a completely different picture forms, one of a guitar manufacturer whose product is anything but small time. The La Patrie employees worked under the Lasido banner during the 1980s, manufacturing guitars for big name companies that no one, out of respect for their competitors, would name. But as Patrick Godin, in charge of international sales, put it, “we didn’t get any recognition for the products we made.It was a good school for us, because those people demanded very high quality, but there’s no future in making guitars for other people.” After almost two decades in the shadows, chief designer Robert Godin decided last year to brand himself and get the credit he’d long deserved. After all, we’re talking about a company that grew steadily through the '90s, and now makes thousands of guitars every year between six different plants, including new-style polypropylene cases at the old H.H.Brown factory in Richmond.Godin’s acoustic and electric axes range from beginner models to very, very high end, according to rave reviews in Guitar Player and other industry magazines. The reviews stress not just the quality, but also the originality. While acoustic guitar designs are more conservative and stable, “electric guitars change a lot — they follow styles just like clothes,” said Daniel Gervais, vice president of quality assurance at the La Patrie plant. To anticipate — or even generate — fads, Robert Godin keeps his ear to the amplifier, anticipating the next design coming down the patch cord.“Every week Robert has a new idea,” said his son, Patrick Godin. Those turn into about 10 new guitar models a year, adding to the hundreds of different models already in their six differently named lines, Godin, Seagull, Norman and La Patrie among them. The 200 employees at the electric guitar plant in La Patrie (there’s also an acoustic factory in town) keep busy assembling all the necks, bridges, and bodies for the electric guitars that will create, once they’re fully assembled in Berlin, New Hampshire, great sound.Because of the wide range of models, the factory has gone with computer-assisted machines to do much of the work.“Our factory gives us flexibility," explained Gervais.“If we want to make a series of 500 or 1,000 guitars, we can do that.If we want to make only 20, that’s fine too.See Guitars.Page 4 Pii JAKE BRENNAN/SPECIAL coated with nuts, tarragon and sesame and paired with crunchy green peas are simple, yet very original and visually striking.Feel free to add more accompaniments if the number of guests is large — like white rice and warm apple sauce with a dash of salt. The green peas may be substituted by another vegetable, like al dente green beans or roasted endives, as long as it adds the necessary crunch to the dish.Alex’s Pantry Ingredients (for four people): 1 kg skinless breasts of chicken 500 grams green peas 150 de-shelled pecans 3 tbsp.sesame seeds 3 tbsp.dried tarragon 200 grams unsalted butter salt and freshly-ground pepper Directions 1.Wash the peas and pat them dry.Remove the tips and the strings that run across the edges with a small, sharp knife.Cut the chicken breast into nuggets, all approximately the same size (about four or five per breast).Reserve.2.On a large cutting board, chop the nuts. When they have been reduced to a coarse meal, add the tarragon, sesame seeds and a generous amount of salt and pepper.Chop some more until all ingredients are perfectly blended and there are no chunks visible.Alternatively, you can pulse the ingredients in a food processor, which will save you time.3.Coat the pieces of chicken by firmly pressing them against the breading mix (no, you will not need to dip the chicken in raw eggs).Reserve.Melt half of the butter in a wok or large frying pan.Add the green beans and put on a lid.Let the green beans cook in their own steam until just cooked through, and very crunchy. It could take up to 10 minutes.Add salt and pepper.4.Melt the other half of the butter in a large, heavy skillet with a few drops of oil.Sauté the pieces of chicken in the butter for about three minutes on either side, being careful not to turn PHOTOS COURTESY XICO BUNY them more than once nor stir, so that the crust stays intact. If you would like to pre-prepare the chicken before your guests arrive, you may reheat the nuggets quickly, for no more than three minutes, in a very hot pre-heated oven.As for the beans, they really do taste fresher and crunchier if cooked right before serving.— Alexandra Forbes was senior editor ofVIP magazine in front of Anton Kuerti. Not that the Austrian-born pianist, who has lived in Toronto for decades, puts you ill at ease with his mild, approachable manner. It’s just, well, a man many have called the greatest living practitioner of 88 keys seems almost beyond questions.Kuerti is in the neighbourhood teaching at the Orford Arts Centre, a process he has enjoyed enough to come back some 20 times. He used to teach at the University of Toronto, but gave it up years back because he just didn’t feel right about it.“I’m very busy, and if you’re traveling a lot, playing a lot of concerts, it’s really not responsible in terms of visiting the students,” he said straightforwardly, scanning the picnic table between us up and down, as if it held keys.A lot of concerts is an understatement, which Kuerti seems to have a penchant for—verbally, at least. His exquisite career has included tours to 40 countries, and he has soloed with many of the world’s greatest orchestras and conductors.Tonight, he will perform at the Orford Arts Centre as part of its annual summer festival. He is also one of today’s most recorded classical artists, having put on disc all the Beethoven Concertos and Sonatas, Schubert Sonatas, Brahms Concertos and works by many others. But one gets the impression that, despite his busy schedule, he still wants to give back to the tradition that has made his career.“I feel that I can be more helpful to a student who comes (to Orford) for a week - every morning we work for four hours - than to give a lesson on average once a month.” The son of Viennese music amateurs, Kuerti grew up in the U.S, studying along the way with renowned teachers like Arthur Loesser, Mieczyslaw Horszowski and Rudolf Serkin."When you're young and trying to make a career, you’re driven by competition and the other talented people around you,” he said. But seeking one’s drive in others is a JAKE BRENNAN/SPECIAL Austrian-born pianist Anton Kuerti, who has lived in Toronto for decades, will be performing at the Orford Arts Centre tonight.short cut to burnout, he suggested obviously not for the first time.“You have to love what you’re doing, and it’s hard to get anywhere if you don’t.You have to love your practicing because you’ll spend a lot more time practicing than performing.” At this point, however, Kuerti no longer feels the need to touch a piano daily, and his greying, frizzy, professorial hair belies his youthful attraction to adventure.“I do some fairly serious hiking,” said Kuerti, who has climbed the Rockies, Appalachians and the highest mountain in southeast Asia, Borneo’s 4,100m Kinabalu, as recently as last December. He’s also an ardent rafter, having followed the Nahanni River in the Northwest Territories twice, and the Tatshensheni in the Yukon with his son and no guide. But is all this adventure is a bit of a gamble for someone whose hands are worth millions of dollars?“Risk taking is part of the game,” he said simply, making the link to his livelihood.“A lot of music is written in such a way that you have to take risks to play it properly.” At tonight’s recital Kuerti will play three pieces he’s already recorded, a seemingly safe bet.“I’ve played them before, but it doesn’t really help me to say ‘usually I can play these quite well,’” he joked. He has selected Mendelssohn-Bartholdy’s Fantasia in F flat minor because, although seldom played, Kuerti feels it’s the composer’s finest work for solo piano.Next, Schumann’s Novelettes, op.21, is one of the cornerstones of the repertoire, what he called “a wonderfully impassioned, highly romantic piece.” The concert’s second half will be Beethoven’s Ham-merklavier Sonata, the most massive of the German giant’s sonatas, and one of the most complex of the classical period. After so many beautiful notes, searching for words about Anton Kuerti will probably be the last thing on listeners’ minds. For tickets to the 8 p.m.performance, at the Orford Arts Centre, call 819-843-9871 Money can’t buy you happiness By Carellin Brooks CanWest News Service Bad books have a fascination all their own, so when I say I read steadily through Trading Up, don’t take it as a recommendation.Instead, understand that there’s something about Candace Bushnell’s genre that lends itself, irresistibly, to spectatorship. This, after all, is a story about people with too much money, fame, power or beauty, and their struggles to get ahead in a world of vicious social distinctions, many of which they themselves assiduously perpetuate. While the lower end of this genre is defined by its gratuitous brandsmanship, with characters endlessly calling for Cristal champagne and tossing restlessly on Frette sheets, the better efforts can approach art.Sadly, despite Bushnell’s previous successes (the TV series Sex and the City is loosely based on her first book), Trading Up doesn’t measure up.The novel is set in the Manhattan of 2000.It ends before 9/11, and the twin towers are ever on the horizon. One wonders what Bushnell’s spoiled little poor-girl heroine, Janey Wilcox, would make of the the collapses and the choking dust that are to come.In Trading Up, Janey is a fading (i.e., over 30) model whose career has recently received some much-needed figurative Botox from a new Victoria’s Secret ad campaign. Now appearing on billboards, she immediately marries rich but still finds herself — you’ll be shocked — dissatisfied.Indeed, in Trading Up the only remarkable thing about the upper echelons of New York society, besides their inherent lack of appeal, would seem to be their collective discontent.Sure, they eat at the trendy restaurant of the moment, seeing and being seen on pink suede banquettes and, sure, they go to the best parties. And, sure, a uniformed driver follows them around in a Lincoln Town Car (oops, branding again), but they just don’t enjoy those things the way you or I would. The only even marginally compelling characters in Trading Up are Digger, a rock star originally from Des Moines, and his I CANDACE BUSHNELL K s no: Hit I! It wife Patty, Janey’s little sister. While these two weather a real crisis in the course of the novel (a wannabe groupie claims Digger is the father of her baby), Janey is more concerned with getting just the right expression on her face as she pretends to offer advice to a distraught Patty. She wants a socialite she’s scheming to befriend to see them and be enchanted by her display of sisterly affection.Bushnell is a credible writer who has perhaps received more than her share of attention because of her Sex and the City beginnings. What she does have is a real ear for dialogue, especially the sort of petty after-hours griping that goes on between husband and wife and the unspoken fencing in a fragile new friendship between powerful women. But the sneering tone she affects is eventually wearying.Even if I did read through to the end, it was only to assure myself that, no matter how much or how little money I have.I’m still having more fun than all these people put together.Trading Up, by Candace Bushnell; Disney Books (Little Brown), July, 2003; 416 pages; $36.95.ISBN: 078686818X.Books A revisionist reading of Ronald Reagan By Marc Nadeau Record Correspondent Whether we agree with his politics or not - and there is certainly a clear divide among his detractors and supporters - it’s hard to dispute Ronald Reagan’s commitment to stamping our Communism.Anybody nurturing doubts about it should read Peter Scheizer’s latest book, Reagan’s War.In this eloquent account, Schweizer describes how, from his days as an actor in Hollywood starting in the 1940s till his ascension to the White House in 1984, Reagan was on a crusade to fight and defeat communism. Some may think that this book is only an ode to the former president, written by a supporter.Drawing on sources from the former communist regimes, however, Schweizer details with precision the positions and actions taken by Reagan to combat the “evil empire”, along with the reactions of the communist world. Thus, while many other politicians were ready to compromise with communism, trying to establish better relations with the Kremlin while the communists gathered strength, Reagan was intransigent. While this intransigence would be contested in the U.S.and abroad, it would come to haunt and demoralize the Kremlin, once Reagan arrived in the Oval Office.Upon arriving in Washington, Reagan promoted a military buildup, approved actions to support opponents to communism around the globe and made sure that the Polish opposition movement — Solidary — wasn’t overthrown by communist authorities. In tandem with Pope John Paul II, he exploited the weaknesses of the eastern bloc.Schweizer then quotes General Czeslaw Kiszczak, who was the Polish Interior Minister and one of the staunchest opponents to the Solidarity movement, who came to the conclusion that “Reagan’s activity in foreign affairs is not an improvisation, is not a chain of spontaneous initiatives, but a carefully planned and coordinated action, something of an integrated front of action under the slogans of world advocacy of the idea of freedom." Schweizer then notes that “when it came to Reagan, his enemies understood him perhaps better than anyone." Reading Schweizer, one can of course draw some parallels between Reagan and George W.Bush.After all, a recent article described the 43rd President as the ideological son of the 40th.But one can also remember that, in his day, another famous politician — who is now a political legend — was also decried by commentators and fellow politicians. This man was Winston Churchill. In 1905, a friend of Churchill’s noted that “The first time you meet Winston, you see all his faults, and the rest of your life you spend in discovering his virtues.” It may be just so with Reagan. It is interesting to note that, 15 years after leaving the public scene, there is a growing tendency to seriously explore the features of Ronald Reagan.Books like Reagan’s War make sure that the battle for Reagan’s legacy will continue. On the one hand, we encounter people like Schweizer, who arrives on the scene to promote and defend the record of Reagan. On the other hand, critics will always be prone to decry the 40th President. That’s the richness of history. But in an age when we harshly criticize - and rightly so - our public personalities as being arrogant and cynical, it is refreshing to read about a not-sodistant President who was not eager to bend his views for the sake of public approval or instant popularity.Reagan’s War: The Epic Story of His Forty Year Struggle and Final Triumph Over Deep stars as a raffish buccaneer named Jack Sparrow opposite Orland Bloom in Disney’s Pirates Of The Caribbean.i By Jamie Portman CanWest News Service ohnny Depp has been back in California for two reasons. He’s here to do promotion for Dis ney’s Pirates Of The Caribbean, in which he plays a raffish buccaneer named Jack Sparrow. But he figures it’s also time to remove a controversial element in his characterization — the gold caps on his front teeth — before he returns home to France. At the end of filming several months ago, he decided to keep the gold in place in case he was called back for reshoots.“Three weeks passed and they said no, we’re not doing reshoots, and by this time I was over in Europe and I realized 1 was 5,000 miles away from the dentist who had put these things on.And you know, you can’t go to any guy because he’ll just start grinding your teeth away.I just got back to Los Angeles the day before yesterday, so hopefully I can get them off.” The gold teeth were Depp’s own idea, and they gave the Disney brass the jitters when he had them done.In fact, when it came to the way he approached his character, they were nervous about a lot of things. In fact, Pirates Of The Caribbean offers a fascinating illustration of what happens when a gifted but idiosyncratic actor accepts a role in a big summer studio movie. In the film opening July 9, the 40-year-old actor’s portrait of piracy is predictably quirky, meaning that it’s definitely off centre.Jack Sparrow keeps losing his balance, he slurs his speeches, and his swagger often turns into a stagger. But he’s also imbued with a mischievous charm as he pursues his single-minded goal of regaining the ship that has been taken from him.Jack wears a red bandana and black eye makeup. His hair is beaded and he has three braids dangling from his chin. And his teeth are gold.Depp loved the idea of giving this 18th century buccaneer a Rastafarian look. But he says the main inspiration for this character was Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards with a bit of everybody’s favorite cartoon skunk.Pepe Le Pew, thrown in for good measure.“I was trying to figure the pirates of the 18th century and what it was all about.Initially you think money and all that. But I think it also had much more to do with freedom and to be out there moving forward.I sort of thought that pirates would be the rock and roll stars of the 18th century. The greatest rock and roll star of all time, the coolest rock and roll star of all time, is Keith Richards — hands down. And Keith is very -1 mean, you spend time with him and he’s very much a pirate.” But when it came to conveying Jack Sparrow’s romantic nature, Depp immediately thought of Pepe Le Pew.“What I love about Pepe Le Pew is that this guy is absolutely convinced that he’s a great lady’s man.And he’s a skunk! You’re watching those cartoons and this guy falls deeply in love with this cat, and the cat clearly despises him.But Pepe Le Pew takes it that she’s playing hard to get — that she’s shy, poor thing.I loved that character’s blindness — no matter what the actual reality is, this guy sees only what he wants to see.” Depp considers Pepe Le Pew “the sort of character who was able “to run between the raindrops.” And that, he says, is how he envisaged Jack Sparrow.Depp’s take is far removed from such great cinematic pirates of the past as Douglas Fairbanks and Errol Flynn.Indeed, his use of eye shadow caused almost as much consternation as the gold choppers.“I remember seeing photographs of the Tauregs — nomads in Africa — and the Berbers. They took coal — you know, charcoal, and lined their eyes .it’s protection from reflections on the sand and the water. It’s also a medicinal thing.” So Depp promptly called for the mascara.“It’s like an athlete of today putting the black stripes on his face.” But Disney bosses were still freaking out — and producer Jerry Bruckheimer found himself running interference.“I loved, what he was doing,” Bruckheimer says.“It scares you the first time you see it because he’s so out there .but it just works beautifully. But yeah, you always get a young executive who’s 26 years old and says: ' My God, what are they doing there? They’ve got a pirate with mascara on!”’ Bruckheimer’s biggest battle was over the gold teeth.“I got caught in the middle,” he laughs now.An anguished studio executive called Bruckheimer: “You gotta get those gold teeth out. They’re scary.” Bruckheimer sought a compromise.“You know what’s going to happen?" he warned Depp.“They (the audience) are going to be watching your gold teeth. They’re not going to be watching your performance. They’re going to be fixated on your mouth.I don’t think you want that.” Depp thought it over.“You’re right,” he finally replied, and reduced the caps by two.Cinema SHOWTTMES EFFECTIVE JULY 11TH TO JULY I7TH HULK (F\0(G)[Notn dttvoFri-Tue: 12:30.1830 BLONDE & LÉGALE ROUGE, BLANC 6 BLONDE.(G) Every day: 13:10, l& 10, 19:10.21:30 TROUVER NEMO preceded by BIBELOT (G) Every daü except Thu 1300.1600, 1900.2l:20Tha 1300,1600,21:20 PIRATES DES CARAÏBES (G) (Not «a» wmMIw young cMdm) Every day 12:30.15:30,1900,2145 4204, boul, Bertrand-Fabi M O V I € INFO S 2 I - 9 9 9 9 mujuj.galaxycincmas.com CHARLIE & SES DRÔLES DE DAMES SE DÉCHAÎNENT ( I ) (G) (Not rKomnnnM lor young ctiMm) Every day: 12:50,15:50, 18:50,21:50 T3: LA GUERRE DES MACHINS (I) (I3Y ?Violence) Fré-Tue: 12:50, 15:35, 15:50,1850,21:35,21:50Wed&Thu: 12:50,15:50,1850,21:50 CHARLIES ANGELS: FULL THROTTLE (G) (Not ncoaumtat for young tMdnn) Every day: 1240, 1540, 1840,2140 LA GRANDE SÉDUCTION (G) Every day 12:35,15:35,1835,21:35 SINBAD, LA LÉGENDE DES SEPT MERS (G) Every day: 1305, 1605, 1820,20.20 LA LIGUE DES GENTLEMEN EXTRAORDINAIRES Wed & Thu: 1245,1545, 1845,2140 “Prartri’ÉiftoXiOÉlAVIÉ Thursday,July l7that7pjL -PwrKMnd SWbHmHMHMMRKS 12919 PAGE 10 TALK OF THE'BlPnshipS JULY 11-JULY 17, 2003 Station Guide 6AM 6:30 7AM 7:30 8AM 8:30 9AM 9:30 10AM 10:30 11AM 11:30 I'.'ftEW O News (CC) News(CC) Early Show Crossing Over Crossing Over Dr.Phil Price Is Right A (CC) A?IJr4 Q News Today Live With Regis and Kelly Other Half CBC News: Morning (CC) Cyberchase Arthur Clifford-Red Dragon Tales Rolie Polie Olie (:16) Little Bear (:15) Save-Urns! Jamie Portman CanWest News Service eople are constantly surprised that Rowan Atkinson can talk.It seems they know him only for his work as the speechless Mr.Bean in the legendary television series, as the peculiar bloke who prefers to communicate through his frantically mobile eyebrows and manic grin. The truth, of course, is different: Atkinson has had plenty of speaking roles throughout his career — in other TV series like Blackadder and The Thin Blue Line as well as in movies like Four Weddings And A Funeral and Rat Race. But such has been the international impact of his Bean portrayal that many fans know him only as the comedian who never speaks. He’s even run into this misconception in the course of doing interviews for his new film, Johnny English, in which he plays a bumbling British secret service agent.“Oh yes, I got a lot of that when I went to promote the movie in Germany,” Atkinson says cheerfully.“I had a lot of young journalists saying: ‘Oh, 1 did not know you could talk.’ At this point Atkinson, 48, is starting to sound like Arnold Schwarzenegger as he mimics an incredu- lous interviewer marvelling at the fact that he can talk “bet-ter” than most people.“And I say: That’s very kind of you, but actually I’ve been talking for years.’” His only concern after playing Bean was that audiences would be unwilling to accept him as “a character who talks.” But that’s ceased to be a worry in view of the box-office showing of Johnny English, a movie that doesn’t open in North America until July 18, but which has already raked in more than $100 million elsewhere.Atkinson has a lot to say in the new movie. But he seems particularly amused by his line or so of Japanese - although the actual speech is far naughtier than what the subtitles show in the film.“What I’m actually saying in Japanese is not what the caption is translating,” Atkinson says impishly.“The caption is something completely different because we had to censor what I do say. What I said in Japanese was ‘may all your daughters be born with large penises’—but we couldn’t get away with that.so the English caption says: ‘May all your daughters be born with three bottoms.’ Atkinson’s, 48, not convinced he possesses an extraordinary talent. He only feels secure as a funnyman when he’s in front of the camera or proper live audience.“I remember standing up in front of my classmates when I was about 11 doing something in the sports changing room — I can’t remember what it was, probably an impersonation of somebody — and hearing people laugh at it.But it was a rare event, and once adolescent self-consciousness set in, I never did it again in front of friends and classmates.” Atkinson believes that he functions best when he is able to exercise some control over his projects and the people he works with.He cites his long association with writer Richard Curtis — a friend since their first meeting at Oxford.Curtis encouraged him to pursue a show business career and also became a valued colleague who helped him invent the character of Mr.Bean and served as writer or cowriter on many of his projects.Despite the worldwide success of Johnny English - which is inspired by a series of 90-second British credit card commercials in which he played an accident-prone spy — Atkinson still finds himself brooding over the end result.“What’s this scene doing here? Why isn’t it shorter? Why isn’t it funniei? Why didn’t I do this, that, or the other thing? But that’s the nature of the perfectionist in me.I think what we ended up with is pretty funny. It’s got some good jokes.” Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, two writers involved in the last two James Bond films, were hired to work on a Johnny English. It has a deliberately preposterous story line about a French billionaire (John Malkovich) whose theft of the Crown jewels from the Tower of London is merely the first step in a diabolical conspiracy to have himself crowned King of England.Rowan plays supersleuth Johnny English — the last hope of the B.S.S.(that’s short for British Secret Service) to save the nation from a fate worse than death. But as Atkinson points out, Johnny has his problems: “He’s a fatuous smug man who wants to do tilings his own way and doesn’t have a great grip on reality and always comes out with the most ridiculously convoluted solutions to problems when actually there’s always a simple one.” And Atkinson adored playing him.“What’s interesting to me about the film is that it’s not really a spoof. It’s'a proper spy movie that happens to have more jokes and a more ridiculous central character than you would normally find.A lot of the time, we were just keen to tell the story and let the jokes fall out in quite a natural way.” iTHEi page 16 July 11-July 17, music fans are always anxious for the Brome County Agricultural Fair, and they won’t be disappointed with this year’s line-up.In the past, organizers have signed great acts like Paul Brandt, Michelle Wright, The Oak Ridge Boys, Terri Clark and Leahy. This year, Saturday night’s entertainment (8:30 pm.is Doc Walker, a Canadian group which has built a sizable fan base with the release of their album Curve.Doc Walker have pushed the boundaries to stay away from the trends of country music today.Their live shows offer a mix of rock and pop country, which appeals to the younger audience. The group was awarded Country Radio Group of the Year 2003, and was nominated for a Juno 2003.Sunday night’s entertainment will feature a performance by young Canadian Country Artist, Adam Gregory at 8.30 p.m.Gregory was nominated for CCMA 2002 Male Artist of the Year and Fan’s Choice. The Way I’m Made, Gregory’s debut CD, was released when he was only 14 years old, and the promotion along with touring gave him a very particular lifestyle for a teenager. This first album was very successful, with four hit singles: 'Horseshoes’, ‘Only Know I Do’, ‘No Vacancy’ and ‘Big Star’.His sophomore release, Workin’ On It, is a logical follow up for Gregory. It offers a nice mixture of up-tempo songs and ballads. The themes are similar to those on the first album. The difference is that Gregory has matured— he’s not afraid to experiment.David C.Martin produced the album, and also co-wrote some of the material found on the collection.Adam Gregory co-wrote two songs: ‘Walking’, about searching for the meaning of life, and ‘Memory Like That’, a beautiful ballad that describes the feelings of falling in love.On Workin’ Ont It, Gregory also worked with some renowned tune-smiths including Canadian composer Stephan Moccio, who wrote the title track for Celine Dion’s 2002 release, A New Day Has Come.Moccio penned ‘Don’t Think So’ for Gregory’s album.Gregory also co-wrote the beautiful, ‘Don’t Look The Other Way’ with Jim Witter, and recorded ‘Sweet Memories’, which is written by country mega star Garth Brooks.Another interesting collaboration is with ‘When I Leave This House’, written by Tom Wilson and Colin James, on which Gregory duets with country hunk Billy Ray Cyrus. As for the title track of the album, it’s a pretty special song about two people working on a relationship. The Brome Fair runs from Aug.29 to Sept.1.Admission is $9 for adults.Watch for the upcoming Brome Fair contest in Country Connection.Country Connection Jessie Aulis
