Mayor Soucie feels that since the people in the area immediately surrounding Fort Coulonge benefit from their water, sewerage, fire protection and arena facilities, they should be paying taxes towards their upkeep. After his proposed annexation the population of Fort Coulonge would be around 2400.Mayor Vezina Hérault of Mansfield opposes the annexation grounds that his people do not want it.He won the last election on his anti annexation stand, over two opponents who both were openly in favor of it.and Hérault polled more votes than both of them put together. This, and the fact that losing tax revenues would weaken his municipality, and he feels cripple it, are factors in his vehement opposition. He notes that people have been moving out of Fort Coulonge and into Mansfield, which makes him think he can't be doing everything wrong for his people.Hérault would like to see the whole idea dropped because he just can't see any advantage and can only see numerous disadvantages.ConsoUdated-Bathurst Dominion Glass Undergraduate Scholarship winner .this year, next year, or ever!
