Communion BOY'S CLUB CAMPS ARE TOPS ' J Tiie many thousands of people, young and old.who spent a summer vacation among the mountains, lakes and rivers that abound in this country, do not get from them a tithe of the benefits that accrue to 3.500 of the boys who are fortunate enough to belong to the Boys’ Clubs of Canada. The reason is that after a few days of holidays they are at a loss to know what to do with their time, as well as their energy, whereas the boys who are in organized summer camps follow a set program that keeps them occupied and interested for every hour of the day. That applies to practically 50,000 boys' days in the year, for, from Newfoundland to Vancouver, including Ottawa, Halifax, Toronto and Montreal, there are some twenty-five boys' clubs which operate summer camps for their membership, organizing them into two week periods, so that the boys who are working can benefit to the same extent as those attending school. All these camps are under the direction of trained camp leaders.Their activities cover every variety of outdoor sport, calculated to interest the boys and build up their health and strength.Usually the day starts at seven o'clock when, on the call of the tent or cabin leader, the boys turn out for an early morning dip. This is not compulsory but few miss it, for it gives them zest for breakfast. After this there is a period for camp ties, a campfire singsong, or other entertainment. If the temperature is high, they may even take another dip in the lake before lights out at 9.30 p.m.This makes a pretty good day and it is one on which the boys thrive amazingly. The Boys' Clubs of Canada have the advantage, through affiliation with the Boys' Clubs of America, of securing unlimited quantities of suggestions for the use of the lads in their summer camps. This year most of them will be visited by an experienced Field Service Officer to assist and advise them in their activities, so there is never a dull moment for the lucky members of the Summer Amps.Naturally same of the Boys* Club camps are more fortunate than others in the amount of equipment they have available, but in every city where there is a Club there are to be found generous citizens who will, if a need is brought to their attention, help to meet any material deficiencies.Others who arc interested in boys’ work may assist financially in this work if they know there is a Boys' Club operating a camp in their locality.St.George's, Thorne Centre Holy Communion BETH A L PENTECOSTAL TABERNACLE Sunday Services Knox—9.30 a.m.St.Andrew's—11 in presence of metallic salts, aldrin is a hydrocarbon compound which is harmless-—with prescribed use—to humans, livestock, or plants.Up to 50 times normal dosage of aldrin necessary for pest control has been applied to test plot just prior to seeding without effecting growth of the plants.Following extensive tests, aldrin quickly became the number one insecticide for control of cotton insects in United States.Tried experimentally on about 1000 acres of Western Canada farmlands in the fall of 1949, the chemical was approved for grasshopper control and last year became the prime, insecticide for curbing the pest.Last spring government and commercial agencies on the prairies d:st Touted 300.000 pounds of aldrin insecticide for grasshopper control.Saskatchewan government, alone, last spring supplied over 70.000 gallons of aldrin spray and 1300 carloads of sawdust to farmers. Now in world wide use.aldrin was recently down to Iran to combat a locust plague there. Now registered with the Dominion Departmen of Agriculture for wire worm control, following extensiv mentation in US.and tests at Dominion Experim lions across Canada, aldrin is expected to bring widespread relief to producers.Shell Oil Company of Cana.1 a.w.i distribute aldrin insecticides, recommend three to five pounds of aldrin per acre for wneworm control in root crops. For control of the plum curculio attacking apples, eigiit to ten ounces of aldrin to 100 gallons of water, is recommended.Shell's 20 per cent emulsible aldrin concentrate has been approved by the Dominion Department of Agriculture for prc-pLinting.treatments for control of wire worms and for grasshopper control. From half to three quarters of a pint of aid in-20 sprayed when grasshoppers are young is effective.Growers and custom sprayers are urged to make regular inspection of headlands, pastures, waste places and ditches bordering cropped land.-.Spraying should not be done when temperature is below 55 degrees F.or when a heavy rainfall is expected.Poisoi baits should use two tilths of a pint of aldrin-20 to 100 pounds of finished bait.Pre-planting treatment for control of wire worms, as approved by the government, calls for one to one and a half gallons of aldrin-20 applied per acre to crop land in spring after cultivation and just before planting.Ground should be harrowed to two or three inch depth immediately after application. The government approve one to one and a half gallons of aldrin-20 applied to dry sod or turf for treatment of wire-worms.CLARENDON CIRCUIT OF THE UNITED
